Z'dGarurumon & MarineChimairamon Previews for Booster Set 4, Plus Fun Digica 59 with 'Small Tweaks to Starter Decks' Battle

A few card game updates!

The Digimon Card Game Twitter has updated with card previews from Booster Set 4 Great Legend. This time it's Z'dGarurumon & MarineChimairamon!

Z'dGarurumon features the well liked 'alternate/subspecies' of MetalGarurumon in an interesting cartoony artstyle, and looking kind of super deformed (almost like the NXEDGE Style designs we've seen a few times for some Digimon.)

MarineChimairamon features some really nice artwork of the relatively new Digimon drawn by longtime Digimon designer Kenji Watanabe. Lots of nice lighting and effects work on this one, and the coloring has a unique look to it.



Digimon Card Game Booster Set 4 Great Legend is scheduled to release on December 18th.

Episode 59 of Fun Digica went up earlier today.

This time Cody and Hideyoshi flash back to when they were on Digimon Card Battle episode 8. That episode had everyone suggesting 'small changes and tweaks' to starter decks. This episode of Fun Digica has them battling using two of those decks.

We've also started to get previews from Booster Set 4 Great Legend. It's scheduled for release on December 18th.

Zeed feels like it's been drawn way too cutesy to me. Same for Marine as well actually, both cards have been drawn as cute.

Zdgarurumon looks too Chibi, its like a baby zdgarurumon.
And marinechimeramon idk if its the pose or what it is but looks very simple compared with i had in my mind. I would expected him to look more menacing.

Exactly this. Zeed looks way too cute. I was hoping for a badass version with all his cannons.
And MarineChimeramon doesn't really look all that Chimera like in this. Not all of his features are visible.

I was not expecting to wake up to either of these two. I knew Zeed was coming eventually this set but still

Neat to see these two today. I especially like how much synergy ZeedGarurumon has with MachGaogamon by virtue of how its effect is designed, feels like a nice shoutout to Digimon Next.

Anyways, the obvious interaction is to do something like DigiBurst with Mach to bounce a Lv4 like a Blocker, use Mach to attack a smaller Digimon, then evolve into Zeed and DigiBurst the remaining sources away to bounce a Lv5 since it's an On Digivolve effect so it doesn't matter if evolving passes your turn. Overall decent amount of control these two offer, so considering that more control-oriented aspect of Blue is my preferred way to play the color, I'm probably gonna experiment with these two. Now I wait to see how MirageGaogamon turns out, since Zeed does support the bouncing theme that Thomas wants for the Gao family.

Spoiler: MarineKimeramon

MarineKimeramon is interesting. It's neat to see another card give incentive to that Evolution Source removal theme Blue loves since it's ironically the least popular way to play Blue at the moment. MarineKimeramon is pretty dang specific in what deck can make good use out of it considered how many conditions are attached to it, though unlike BT-2 Kimeramon Marine can bounce any level provided you meet that criteria. If I'm being blunt, MarineKimeramon's big draw is the fact that it's removal that also puts it's presence onto the board, since Cocytus Breath is also 7 Cost and doesn't require any external setup. As a result of that, not sure how popular Marine will end up being considering it's already a very conditional card, and unlike Kimeramon in Purple, Blue doesn't particularly want to bounce it's own cards to hand compared to Purple loving being destroyed off Kimeramon. Kinda feels like they gave Marine one too many conditions in that regard.

Oh I love how Kenji drew that fluffy fur of MarineChimeramon! Very fluffy!

I'm the type that loves the design of Toon cards in Yugioh, so I like Zd's design here. Having cute mega designs is interesting.

Zd's effect makes me wish that Thomas worked on more cards than just the Gaomon line though. I'll still be making a Gaomon deck, and I'll probably include Zd for early game with MirageGao as late game.

I've honestly been thinking about this lately and I feel like it should work on Blue Digimon of the Beast/Cyborg/Beast Knight types to reflect not just the Gaomon evolution line, but similarly themed Digimon too. The card is just so weirdly specific as it is.
