So, basically, how did you first get into Digimon and how has it influenced you today? I saw the very first episode when it aired in August 1999. It was different, unlike the other saturday-morning cartoons I was used to. This world was a mystery to be solved, not just some afterthought. This world they created was one where you were encouraged to ask questions and I remember in 5th grade where me and my friend would discuss theories. Where exactly were they? What was the nature of that strange world they were in? Who or what are the digimon themselves? Regular saturday-morning cartoons never got to this level of world-building. I'll confess that I'm not exactly the biggest fan in the world but I will always have an affection for Digimon because it was the first anime I followed. I would say that I probably may not have gotten into anime if it weren't for Digimon.

First watched it with my cousins while at my grandparent's house for Christmas. I was immediately attached to Patamon, and incredibly disapointed that he turned into a hot angel guy instead of a big cute monster. I can't recall what year it was, so I don't know if I was watching the show's original airing, or if the network was airing random episodes. But one of the episodes I watched was from the Dark Masters saga, when they fought Piedmon. It gave me nightmares and swore me off the show. I didn't become a true Digimon fan until high school, many years later.

My first actual encounter with Digimon beyond muddled rumors was noticing an episode of it on at my latchkey program (episode 8 of the Adventure dub), but I didn’t actually start watching it until later, when the “Myotismon” arc was first airing. I watched the first three series dubbed, after which it left our the channels we had and I drifted away from it. I didn’t become a fan again until high school, not long after Savers had finished airing. That was when I started watching the original version of the show.

It’s had a pretty big influence on my life in an indirect way, since it was through Digimon that I was introduced to H. P. Lovecraft, which was what gave me the inspiration to become a professional author. It may have influenced, at least in a subconscious way, the things I write about, since a number of my stories involve contact with other worlds. It was my gateway into other anime as well, thanks to Marc’s challenge on this site (not that I hadn’t seen other anime before, but that’s what got me watching it on a regular basis).

I saw it when it started and was a bit surprised that they didn't go to Patamon evoing when the Devimon ep started. But it was good, fun, & it lead me to here and many other things too. Would just one monster series do that? Not sure. Maybe?

Like every other child, I was hooked on the whole pokémania stuff and then I bought a toy magazine with an article on Digimon that said, like, "It's like Pokémon but VIOLENT" and more violent basically meant cooler for a 90's child obsessed with Mortal Kombat like me. Some time later, Fox Kids started airing some previews (I remember one with 3D renders of the Baby II partner digimons and Tokomon was looking really rad) and then they released 4 episodes on a Saturday (iirc) afternoon a couple months (I think) before the actual premiere and I remember telling my cousin I didn't like Pokémon anymore after seeing the episodes and he got pretty mad lmao.

One cool curiosity is that here in Brazil, at least on the Fox Kids broadcast (I didn't watch it on Globo at all), episode 2 had Butter-Fly on its opening (my japanese great-grandmoter said the lyrics are beautiful, RIP) instead of the abominable brazilian opening song and they kept this "error" on subsequent reruns even on the "Digimon Desde o Início" Adventure rerun on Jetix when Frontier was being aired.

When it was first advertised on CITV, when it was (quite wrongly) treated like the new Pokemon.

Like others have said I got into after watching adventure on CITV, back in 2000 I think. I only watched the first two seasons and bits of Tamers as a kid. I missed quite a few episodes and I dont know why I only watched the first couple episodes of Tamers, I think CITV wasnt airing it in order or it was on at awkward times. I liked it enough to get it on video but even then only the first couple episodes, I dont think they released the whole season. I dont think they ever aired Frontier on CITV, or British TV in general, they only got up to Tamers which was weird.

Gods this is a good question. I remember hearing about it as a kid and being dumb stupid child literally said "is it like pokemon? what do they catch them in digiballs?" and ignored it until the Myotismon in Japan arc.

Then I saw that bit where he like almost kisses a human woman to drain her blood or whatever and he became my first ever crush (and apparently has lived rent-free in my brain ever since because he randomly shows up in dreams like 'lol hi I'm still here what up gurl') and I decided I wanted to watch digimon. I failed at ever watching digimon properly. I have literally never seen a full series only like maybe 10 episodes of each at most. I don't know how I keep doing this. Its almost impressive. I always found the episodes randomly on TV and was never able to watch properly. Best I did was 02 when I got to watch most of it right after school if I got home fast enough. Saw the ending to that, though. I saw a lot of those episodes. Though all the ones I saw were after Archnemon and Mummymon showed up. To this day they're still the only thing I have ever shipped. Kiddo me even gave them a mummy-wrapped spider baby. Arcmummymon. I was so original. So, so original.

I did however get Digimon World on ps1 and played the heck out of it. And I always liked looking up new digimon and stuff. My girlfriend and I have our own universe we rped in the past and have our own oc characters and digimon and stuff.

I was living in Hikarigaoka Japan when suddenly I hear loud noises that sounded like explosions and I could barely see over the crowd of people what appeared to be a giant green bird fighting an orange dinosaur.

Actually, my first experiences with Digimon are really scattered and vague and I'm almost certainly forgetting my actual first experience. Being born in 1997 with no older siblings, I was barely too young to have caught the hype that Adventure would have started so I knew of Digimon's existence but never looked into it until later in life.
I remember looking at a book of Digimon in first grade that my school happened to have and taking note of the Adventure partners' designs with Gomamon's sticking out to me and I remember seeing a Digimon episode on a portable TV while I was camping with my grandma where Togemon's silly design really stuck out to me. I also remember being at a flea market and seeing Impmon for the first time in plushie form and every detail about that plushie stuck in my mind until I later found out it was a digimon and instantly recognized it. There was also a time one of the Digimon movies was on a US channel called "Jetix" and my uncle explained to me that digimon evolutions were reversible and thinking that was such a good idea for the franchise to implement which is still an opinion I hold today. I think I also learned that day that digimon could be beat up so bad they go back to being an egg. I played a Savers flash game briefly at one point. I remember also buying the MetalPhantomon, GeoGreymon, Gaomon, DotGaomon figure pack and playing with them in the hospital as my grandpa was dying of lung cancer and yeah, that's it for early memories

However, my first time really being exposed to Digimon were the games Dawn and Dusk. I originally had Dusk but would later trade for my brother's Dawn when I realized I liked Coronamon's evolution line and Light Fang more which is a trade my brother agreed on. I actually remember mulling the night before buying it, uncertain if I wanted Dawn or Dusk but decided on Dusk as I liked nighttime more so it makes sense why I went back on the decision later as I started out on the fence. Those games were so weird to me. They were grindy and it seemed like getting a Mega was an obscene amount of effort. Who can jogress with what to get who also seemed super random like you needed to already in the know but there were just so many random and nonsensical jogresses and dead ends to evolution lines that forced you to find one to progress which I didn't like. I was also super confused on how the characters were species but the descriptions seemed to refer to a lot of them like they were individuals, and I remember being very confused on how I had Digieggs that hatch into Digimon but apparently I can use Digieggs to evolve digimon? Yeah, the localization of Digimental to Digiegg really threw me for a ride as I learned about evolution through "Digieggs" by reading the instruction manual.

My first time actually getting into Digimon and considering myself a fan was by being on an unrelated virtual pet site years after playing Dawn and Dusk. This site no longer exists but was my main forum website and one day there was a forum post on that site asking "What's your favorite Digimon? Mine is Plesiomon" followed by an image of a really pretty creature I now know as Plesiomon. I then Googled Plesiomon, found the fan wikis where I read its reference book entry, and started clicking links around jumping from one Digimon to the rest guided by evolution webs and the more I read, the more enthralled I was that the profiles reference each other and painted one really big picture and a very interesting world. I would then go on learning more and more until it became an obsession. When Pokemon went in a direction I found unfulfilling during X and Y, I dropped that franchise and filled that void with Digimon. So while I had a super spotty history with Digimon, it is that forum post that I credit for the event that made me a Digimon fan

1999 but then I stopped caring for it in 2001, got addicted to it in 2018 due to the designs, I love edgy designs

I watched the anime when it came out on TV in the UK, and got into the original v-pets along with some other kids at school. I was rather into studying them even back then. It was fun to be an expert at something and have other kids actually interested in what I thought about it. Surely the brightest period in my rather unhappy childhood social life. It's strange that there are still things we don't know about these devices!

I'm sure it contributed to my long-term interests in programming, electronics and Japanese (though Nintendo and some other things had an influence too).

I'm not entirely sure tbh, I know I still have Digimon VHS tapes and this Armadillo figure from back when I was a kid. I mean maybe I learned of Digimon from those VHS tapes, although maybe I learned of it from the internet. Who knows?

While the details are hazy... we are talking nearly 23 years ago. I know i started with dub of the original series. Heck back then how many of us even knew it was japanese in origin? I mean I recall all the pokegod rumors when i was in 5th grade, I know I at least knew Pokemon was from japan around the time of discovering digimon, but I don't know if really knew what anime was or anything like that. Toonami was just a block of cool cartoons from japan (honestly not sure if Toonami was even doing the whole this stuff is from japan stuff yet during the days of Moltor being in control of the feed.

But i started with Tai and the others. With ep 1, I think I just sort of watched them cause hey i was watching Fox kids anyways was there anything else worth watching at the time? I got hooked, I remember going on to buy the original starter deck and such. Even though the rules were a mess, all i recall was not seeing any clear win condition or anything. But they looked cool. I remember hanging with a friend the week that Metal Garuru and War Grey got to debut as well as when the 8th child was revealed. All that stuff it was fun. Wish i could recall more details about how i stumbled across it or had some fun story of hearing rumors of it or being told about it by someone but i think i just caught an ep because it came on before or after something else i was watching.

Hey there.

I remember watching Adventure 01 on Fox kids back in 1999. I remember sitting down with my brother and just watching it from start to finish, and I think it was Two episodes. (But feel free to correct me if I am wrong!) That was my first exposure, back in the day. However, I did not realize how...smart they where about the current events. Im just sad that 2020 just turned into the Tai And Yamato show.

I only began watching Digimon last year. I was just looking for random anime to watch, and coming off of watching Shaman King, I decided to watch something else that Jetix was involved with. I ended up watching Digimon 01, then 02. Then I got really freaking bored with the series and decided to put it down for a little while.

Then, I learned that Tri was only six episodes (and I thought they were normal ~20 minute episodes. Maybe they were specials or something), so I decided I'd watch it before leaving Digimon. Welp, they each turned out to be movie length, and I watched all six.

And the animation, writing, and story hooked me (it took me a while to learn that people generally really dislike Tri). Past that point, I decided to watch anything involving Digimon.

In conclusion, I basically got really into Digimon on accident.

That happens. I've done that with a few before. It's nice that you got here though. Now check out all the other seasons. They are very different then Adventure. ...Except the remake recently.

like most I watched Adventure when it aired.
lost interest at the beginning of Tamers and it wasn´t aired regulary anymore.
got back into it when i broke a finger and coudn´t do much except watching stuff, so I just binged everything.
made me join this site, just before the Digimon revival with Tri and Cybersleuth, good timing to get me hooked again.

The first episode of adventure on TV, then my parents bought me the first VHS and ended reaching the ladydevimon fight but never saw Piemon or Apocalymon fight. It was years later that I was able to finish the season.
