Time for a new CD scan!
What Lies Ahead is the new insert song for Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna that plays at a key moment later in the film. The song is by Ayumi Miyazaki, who has done many insert songs for Digimon over the last 20 years.
The disc was released a few days before the movie came out.
The CD contains 4 tracks: the title track, a B-side called 'Missing Each Other in the Future', and karaoke versions of both.
There are a few different possible translations for the main title track, and after seeing the film I may go back and change it from 'What Lies Ahead' to something else, such as 'Beyond'.
The embedded files are smaller JPGs from our gallery, so those shouldn't have any bandwidth issues. Click the images for big versions.
The scans went relatively well and there were no oddities or issues.
The CD was packaged in a CD-Album style case (the normal CD case most people are familiar with.)
The cover for this release is new artwork of Agumon and Gabumon leaping through the air about to attack (Agumon is definitely leaping... Gabumon looks more like he's in a run.) Behind them are silhouettes of their new forms from the movie along with explosions of the colors of the crests of Courage and Friendship.
The art is formatted wide, with the movie title at the top in simple gold text, the song title and Ayumi Miyazaki's name at the bottom larger.
The only real oddity is they kept the cover secret (unlike the other 3) until right before the film came out. It was assumed this was because the new Digimon appeared in the full on the cover, but with only silhouettes it feels like a bit of an odd choice.
The cover is the front to a small fold out booklet (more like a fold out pamphlet since it's so short.)
Just a basic 2 page fold out. Each side has the lyrics and credits to one of the two songs featured on the disc. The left side has screenshots of Taichi & Yamato and Agumon & Gabumon from the movie. The left side includes the lyrics in blue and the right side includes the lyrics in orange. In addition to that use of the crest colors, you can see small versions of the color explosion effect from the cover on the top left and bottom right of the fold out.
The back of the booklet is very simple, just showing the Kizuna logo along with the Digimon Adventure 20th logo.
A scan of the disc itself.
The disc design is a slightly stone looking gray color with a bit of texture to it. Silhouettes of the new Digimon are a bit darker. The song and Miyazaki logo are dark blue, as is various other details.
Because this was a full CD case, it had some art under the tray which I cracked open.
Silhouettes of the new Digimon again. This isn't the new artwork from the CD, rather it's the silhouettes we saw in an early trailer for the film.
The text at the bottom is FeelMee's location, along with a rather sizeable bit of text that is dedicated to disc care.
The reverse side of this is the actual back cover of the CD case. It features a photograph of Ayumi Miyazaki breaking apart digitally. He's holding a very near looking guitar that has lineart of the original digivice on it with a bold metallic blue for the main color, and the lineart in gold. The back also includes the various logos and information you'd expect to be included in the package.
On the left side of the case was an obi card.
A basic but nice obi. Various information about the release is included.
The back features a bit to line up with the photo of Miyazaki on the back.
It's a relatively standard and nice looking CD package without much surprises for the packaging itself, which is expected for a standard CD release. The main focus for the packaging is the new character artwork and the nice photo of Miyazaki on the back. Another nice Digimon CD release.
If you want to order the CD, it is still available. Also available are the other 3 Kizuna CDs that came out at the same time.: (CDJapan affiliate links)
