After reviewing 02 and remembering the events of Tri, I have doubts about this character.

In Digimon Adventure, Gennai appears as an old man, while in Digimon 02 he appears as a young man.
Seeing 02 again, I realized that at no time do they explain this fact.
Maybe it's explained in some narrated novel that was only released in Japan?

The same thing happens in Digimon Tri, first he appears as Digimon Emperor, but he is not Ken and then he appears as young, but evil Gennai.
And absolutely nothing is explained.

Could someone explain to me the reason for these two events?

Thank you!^^

while I don't really know the answer of why Gennai turned young again in 02 but one possible answer is that after Apocolymon the digital world got some sort of soft reboot which may explain why old Gennai turned young in 02.

As for Tri, the dark gennai who appeared as Digimon emperor is not the real Gennai, who is in stasis along with 02 kids but imposter from Yggdrasil to overthrow Homeostasis which is the best implied answer since Tri never answered it clearly though

The Adventure novel doesn't explain why he turns young again but it does explain why he turned old in the first place:
Gennai had to think about what he could do to suppress the black ball’s power. The conclusion that he came up with was to “grow old.” By disabling his regenerative function, he could prevent the black ball from enlarging.
That the black ball had something to do with it is something that had always been theorized but the interesting part of the novel's explanation is the reveal that the aging was not an effect of the ball but a way neutralize it on Gennai's part.

That "reboot" didn't fix it, we know that because in Our War Game and even when the power of the crests unsealed the holy beasts in 2000 he is still in his old form.

From an audio drama we know that he turned young at some point before April 2001, and at that time his "clones" also appeared. From that it has been widely theorized that by splitting himself up, the power of the black ball was split up as well (And this still kind of works with the novel's interpretation; The individual agents don't need to counteract as much as the original Gennai did), but that hasn't been canonically confirmed as far as I know.

He was giving a pearl with healing powers by Aluzologmon. There, that has always been enough of an explaination for me.

Didn't we see a bunch of hooded young Gennai clones near the end of original Adventure?
You know, in that vision Homeostasis showed thru Hikari when Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon were fighting
each other?
