After news of a new Digimon CD just a few days ago we have more details on an upcoming release (likely the one teased, but we don't know that for sure.)

Image Thumbnail (custom)

On January 25th, 2017 there will be two Wada Kouji memorial albums under the name "Wada Kouji Digimon Memorial Best."

There will be 2 versions of the album, 'sketch1' and 'sketch2'.

sketch1 will have new art by Watanabe Kenji, who has been designing and drawing for Digimon since the original V-Pets.
sketch2 will have new art by Atsuya Uki, who does the character designs for Digimon Adventure tri.

Update- We have a full track list now. The tracks will be the same for both.

1. Butter-Fly
2. FIRE!!
3. Because I am Me
4. Butter-Fly(Piano Version)
5. Haruka na okurimono
6. Seven
7. Butter-Fly (Theater Size #1)
8. The Biggest Dreamer
9. Hirari
10. With The Will
11. Butter-Fly ~Strong Version~
12. Seven ~10th Memorial Version~
13. Innocent ~Mujaki na Mama de~
14. an Endless tale
15. Kaze
16. Target ~akai shougeki~
17. A Door into the Future ~Ever Since That Summer Day~
18. Seven ~tri.Version~
19. Butter-Fly ~tri.Version~

They are currently up for pre-order at CDJapan (affiliate links):

Wada Kouji Digimon Memorial Best -sketch1-
Wada Kouji Digimon Memorial Best -sketch2-

The CD will be discontinued on September 1st, 2017, so you have a little more than half a year to get it if you want.

There had previously been a special Wada Kouji album released in limited number at DigiFes 2016 called Digimon Song: Best of Wada Kouji.

No Xros Wars songs unfortunately.

No doubt we will be hearing more about these soon.

Thanks to shin for translation help.

It's cool that Digimon is paying tribute to the legend that is Wada.

I'll certainly consider getting them.

I'm predicting that this is going to be a completed version of the Wada Koji Angemon he posted on his Twitter after he passed away.

I don't normally buy CDs but I think I might get this because I love Kenji Watanabe's artwork and it would be nice to have something to buy in memory of him.

I wonder what the new art for both sketches would be like, I am thinking on something fans associate with Wada Kouji.

10. With The Will

...This explains a lot.

Well, I did not know until now where the site got its name. Thought it had to do with a guy named Will(iam).

Lol. Yup definitely how we got our name.

Also I imagine the legal issues stopped Xros again on it.

It's the evolution/battle music from Frontier. It's a nice song, you should check it out. Better than the random tribal synth the dub got if that's all you're familiar with.

I was getting my hopes up when I heard that it was going to be 2 CDs but I should have suspected that it was gonna be 2 version of the same one. (seems like every new release that...)
If they actually went with a legit double albums they could have included some of the lesser known songs from his non-Digimon works (as few far between those were), seems like an album like that would be a good opportunity to highlight that part as well but alas "Best" seems to simply mean "Digimon"...
I mean if it's meant to celebrate him as an artist then it just kinda feels shallow to me to still use the same standard tracks that have Digimon plastered all over it. Maybe that's what they needed to do in order for it to sell well but if that's the case that just kinda speaks for itself in a depressing way.
I guess I'll be happy that they included Haruka na Okurimono and Boko wa Boku Datte.

I know but it's unacceptable anyway that a CD that is going to "pay homage" to Wada's trajectory in Digimon includes 5 different version of Butter-fly (I'm not against this since I love the song, but it's just unbalanced) and not even a song of Xros Wars. We are Xros Heart, Ver.X7, X4B The Guardian, Sora Mau Yuusha! X5, etc. they are too good to skip them like this -.-

8.8/10 - needs moar Butter-Fly.

But seriously, I'm super bummed they didn't have any of Xros Wars in there. I've already got several of these tracks from buying "Digimon: All the Best" CD a while back. But I might be tempted to buy this when it comes out.

Believe me, if they ever release official subbed Digimon (preferrably DVD/BD, but would buy digital), and especially if I had spare cash, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
