A tri. Part 6 theatrical update!

With the recent announcement of an extension to a fourth week, it seemed like it'd be worth going over what information we have regarding how tri. Part 6 is doing in Japanese theaters.

Opening towards the end of the Golden Week holiday period, which is a big time to release movies in, we didn't expect to get proper numbers, since we tend to only get those for top 10, since tri. would be unlikely to rank that high in a week with so many big films (which it didn't.)

tri. being a smaller release (17 theaters) means it did end up in the mini-theater rankings (a separate chart for films that are only in a small number of theaters), so we know how it charted there.

It was #1 for both week 1 and week 2 of it's release! (The charts specifically count the weekend, since that's the big part of the week for films.)

In fact, minus 1 other film, everything else in the 2nd week of it's release was new on the top of the mini-theater chart (the most notable to most of us would likely be that each week had a new Kamen Rider Amazons compilation film.)

This weekend will be week 3 of it's release, and while we don't really expect it to hang onto #1 again, it'll be interesting to see where/if it ends up on the mini-theater chart again.

Update- #1 for it's 3rd weekend on the mini-theater rankings!

Update- For it's 4th weekend it's #3 on the mini-theater rankings. It was knocked down by the Paul Thomas Anderson film Phantom Thread and The Man from the Sea.

And in less than a month is the home video release of tri. Part 6!

The DVD will be 7,000 yen and the Blu-ray will be 8,000 yen and be available June 2nd.

The Amazon Version includes a box to hold all 6 of the initial production run digipaks.

tri. Part 6 is currently available to pre-order.

It isn't the only one in this ranking for mini-theatre releases:

- Reunion was #1 on mini-theatres for 4 weeks:

- Determination was #1 for three weeks (and #2 other two weeks) :

- Confession was #1 for three weeks (and third the next week):

- Coexistence was #1 for two weeks (and third the next week):

- Loss wasn't #1, but was #2 for three weeks:

PS: "Loss" missed the #1 probably because its premiere coincided with the premiere of the first film for Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202

Most interesting is Loss actually stuck on the chart longer than Yamato. I wonder if Yamato's run was only two weeks, or if everyone just saw it the first two weeks and it dropped off heavily.

Well, it seem the first film for Yamato was just two weeks

It seems that just in the second film they began to increase weeks in some theatres (I used the translator for this japanese page): http://yamatocrew.jp/crew/info/170531
