I'm hoping to find a fix that will close how someone got into Starlight. If a fix is sorted the site will return. (Basically here is hoping Lost can do something)

Re: The Hopeful Return of Starlight

I'd refuse to ever let DigiStarlight close if I had anything to say about it.

I'm very curious what went wrong. Do you guys even know?
Was it a server setup vulnerability, installed software vulnerability, custom scripts vulnerability? Was the server's infection caused by your PC's infection, or vice versa? If the site were to be uploaded from another computer, as well as any passwords used to do so changed from an uninfected PC beforehand, does the problem persist? Is your copy of the site a previously-live version which may contain the infection with a time-delayed attack?

Also, I thought WtW was hosting Starlight on their server? Has WtW had any effect from it?

I'd love to help, but I bet Lost has had more experience with this sort of stuff than me, so I doubt I'm of any use. I'm well versed in PHP and such, though.

It was/is a code vulnerability. I always kept a back up on my pc after every update. It always went pc > server. Rather than vice versa. I even know which file the problem was. It was a file that hasn't been updated in a long time.

The PC got a full blitz with antivirus and malware progs after the attack to be sure. I check and clean the pc weekly, so it must have come from the site. (not to mention the site got attacked again within 20mins of putting the back up online)

WtW had no effect from it. Lost checked that out.

Hope the site does return, would be such a loss because it has been one of the best for more than a decade near the beginning of the franchise.

I put Starlight back up before I went to bed last night. Didn't get chance to actually post. It's still in the old format until Lost has more time to work on it. I'll just have to keep an eye out for anything that's looking strange.
