Well maybe this is the Xiquemon Rookie now it's in the DRB and Xiquemon is in the card game soon too.

Sangomon cameo in the foreground.
I've always wanted to see somebody with Swimmon as their partner. Would they have to carry water with them everywhere?

Yeah thats always the issue with aquatic digis i feel
However, at the same time... just look at pokemon, Goldeen functions just fine without water. I assume many aquatic digis are simialr and tend to swim through the air much like all the fish pokemon that somehow do battle (at least in the games) on land... of course in the animes we often see aquatic battle fields for fish pokes. But yeah sadly we dont really know for swimmon since usually the closest we see is just a seadramon on the beach or something.

Well, Seadramon had no problem flying in 02.
And judging by most of the animations in all the games, most aquatic digimon are capable of limited flight out of water. In Survive a lot of them even have flight as their movement speed.

personally, I like the idea of Swimmon having the handicap of needing water as I think it could be cute and present interesting obstacles in storytelling

I prefer for them to be slow but move by floating or hovering outside water. They might glide faster by using it's wing-like fins.

I thought the same thing. Swimmon seems to be inspired both by flying fish and parrotfish in design. So it feels like a good fit for a digimon line whose signature is sharing both bird and fish characteristics.

Edit: oh yeah, the card art is beautiful.

i do think the idea of needing to keep it moist would be amusing
Tamer having to splash their swimmon with a glass of water every now and then at least- keep it from drying out
But thats some good points, flying fish / parrot fish> Bird with fish data> Kun > Peng

Just sits in a bowl of water like Klaus from American Dad and drags itself around.

Actually, it does just apply to the games. At the risk of going on a tangent about the Pokemon anime, it was always horrible about how to portray aquatic (though mainly fish-based) Pokemon. I mean, the 2nd episode ever just had Misty send out her Goldeen (a Pokemon she doesn't even use in the games) for seemingly no reason except to make the statement that Water-types can't battle on land. I guess series writer Takeshi Shudo wanted to establish that the anime's setting is a bit more realistic than the games (which could obviously take some liberties lest it leaves a lot of fish Pokemon too god damn useless to the player due to being so situational), yet at the same time, he left Misty with a Pokemon that did close to nothing for over 250 episodes (and the sad thing is, the Horsea she had for like 40 episodes somehow managed to be even more useless). And it's pretty ironic that this is the same early Pokemon anime where Brock's Geodude, a heavy rock creature, can inexplicably levitate perfectly fine.

Later series were a bit more forgiving, showing that fish can do some battle on the land (they don't typically levitate like the games, but they are usually shown to stand on their bellies and hop around as such), though they've still stopped short of giving any of the main characters a fish that participates in battles often. Also, the Volcanion/Magearna movie did show that Sharpedo could now levitate (or kinda levitate? I think it was shown to do short hops with its bottom fin still staying a few inches above the ground)...... because they needed to get those last-minute Mega Evolution showcases in, I guess.

Well, Seadramon had no problem flying in 02.
That really did amuse me. At the same time, it was nice to see that, despite the anime never really showing the likes of Seadramon or Whamon getting out of the water before, game logic apparently could apply to the anime (incidentally, I wonder what this might say about other Digimon that would seemingly have ridiculously limited mobility outside of games and V-pets, such as Trailmon).

Come to think of it, Adventure showed MetalSeadramon flying all the time (and to pretty high altitudes, no less). Though, being an Ultimate level, it shouldn't be too surprising that it has access to such mobility.

In Digimon Logic, any digimon float/fly! No explanation needed! Even Royal Knights fly.

Swimmon's artwork is quite beautiful as the ocean does! Please watch out for Whamon that might swallow you all up.

tbh I tend to not like when Pokemon designs only levitate as a crutch for the design to work (Klinklang, Vanilluxe), as opposed to designs where levitating is something it can realistically do due to it's nature (Magnemite, ghost and psychic types)

If the Digivice has feature like Digivice iC or Xros Loader, the aquatic digimon is safe to travel anywhere with.

Not all digimon can fly/float I guess. Just like not all digimon can swim/dive. I think there should be an explanation like the non amphibian aquatic digimon use more their energy to float on land, something like that.

Royal Knights fly. As they should be able to as the security of digiworld.

Which is kinda awkward, considering Tamers had that whole thing about Dukemon needing Grani. They even contradicted an earlier episode, in which Dukemon was clearly airborne while tussling with Zhuqiaomon.

I may be mistaken, but I think I even recall seeing poyomon flying at one point in one of the animes. Think it was early on in frontier.

Fish Digimon flying is one thing.

But also recall Coelamon in Xros Was traversing along the ground as if it were the surface of water. I like that for some of this fishes.
