Survive Rated by Korean Ratings Board

Another pseudo-Survive update.

The Australian Classification ratings board classified Survive in August and a month ago Brazil did the same.


The world tour continues as we have ratings information from Korea. It appears it was rated about the same time as Brazil, the information is just now being published.

It was rated "12+". This is the second rating on the scale in Korea after 'All'. 12+ is used for titles that are suitable for those 12 and older.



In addition, they also publish an overview with various details. That includes a small description, then what appears to be a simple 'has it' or doesn't scale for various categories.


The small description regarding why it got the rating it did:

A role-playing game for PC in which the main characters who participated in the camp are suddenly transferred to another world and have an adventure at the risk of survival.

Expressing a mild level of violence (Continuous battle with various types of Digimon)

Then the various categories: (None appears to equate to 'None' or 'Not enough to matter for the rating')
Sexuality- None
Violence- Some
Fear/Horror/Threatening- None
Language- None
Alcohol/Tobacco/Drugs- None
Crime/Anti-Social- None
Gambling- None




Overall this lines up roughly with what we saw from Australia and Brazil.

so far the game is not looking nearly as dark as its trailer implies. Are any humans going to even die?
Regardless, the themes seem to hit that lost in the woods feel better than I've seen other Digimon do and that's what's enticing me. Less Digidestined, more confusion and unfamiliarity and just trying to make it out

Hard to say. If Fire Emblem is anything to go by - and Survive looks like it could be Digimon Fire Emblem - it will be up to the player's skill to make sure characters live till the end and the story adapts to it.

Maybe Digimon will also just get reborn as eggs instead of permadeath. The fact that there is only 8 digidestined rather than 40+ like in FE games does make me question if it will have a permadeath feature.

Rating boards often overlook some of the the harsher elements of games, because they don't have the final product.

South Korea is a single country with its own rating system. The vast majority of Asian territory is covered by China and Russia. The UK shares its rating system with the rest of Europe, as they use PEGI. So a UK rating would have implications for all of Europe.

I think it happens because the rating is decided by those many categories, not just how dark the game is, so with only violence having emphasis, and I don't think the violence will be any near to a gore or something, I think 12+ is justified.

And it makes sense, it's digimon and with the new anime airing they probaly don't want to go super hyper mega adult mode and lose consumers just because they are younger.

That doesn't mean the game won't be good, that just mean that we won't see drugs, language or any of those things, which doesn't make a real difference.

Well I'm still surprised that the game doesn't have anything in the Fear/Horror/Threatening category, but I think this category is about actual horror and scary games, and survive is not about that.

Yes. I literally just said it. They use PEGI like every other country. Some countries have their own rating systems, like Germany, but they're usually used alongside PEGI, not replacing it. And how is the US more important here than the entirety of Europe? Hell, PEGI even covers Russia

So it's really coming. I am patiently waiting for an official Japanese rating, that would be the turning point in my opinion.

A Japanese rating would be the Big One, I think. Obviously, a UK-and-Europe rating would be the next big one, since that would cover 35 different countries, but being rated in its country of origin would be The Biggest Deal as far as news-about-places-giving-it-a-rating goes.
