The Digimon Card Game Twitter has updated with a card preview from Booster Set 8 New Hero. This time it's SkullKnightmon: Cavalier Mode.

SkullKnightmon: Cavalier Mode gets some nice 'anime plus' style art of the SkullKnightmon mode change form where he's mounted on DeadlyAxemon.

A nice followup to various Pulsemon family card previews we just got.

SkullKnightmon: Cavalier Mode
This card's name is also treated as "SkullKnightmon" and "DeadlyAxemon"
[When Digivolving] This card gains [Jamming] and [Blocker] until the end of your opponent's next turn.

well obviously you want to give it Reboot!

I will never appreciate the "putting together two digimon to create a new digimon" style, but, oh well, I knew that it was a matter of time for them to appear in this card game. (edit: I forgot that Shoutmon DX was already a thing)

As for the game aspect, some support for Dark Knightmon is not bad.

Hopefully, (Darkness)Bagramon will be one of the Black cards in this set. Been waiting for it since SkullKnightmon's inherited effect teased it in the last set.

You also forgot the many, many versions of Omegamon, and Paildramon, and Silphymon, and all the other Jogress pairs in the game which have been for a while.

No I didn't mention those cases intentionally. But yeah, I probably didn't say it properly.

Anyway, I can't even say this art in particular isn't cool, I just don't like the digxross way to fuse digimon together.

I still can’t tell if these two are actually fused together here or if sk is just sitting on his bro’s back and they calling it a mode change

One Digimon sitting on another counting as a new Digimon was always silly. They didn't have SkullKnightmon sitting on DarkMaildramon as a new Digimon too. Also weird how this is somehow a mode change. The part in the effect where its name counts as both Digimon basically shows it shouldn't be its own thing too lol. Hopefully this is the only card this form gets. The other SkullKnightmon forms would be better cards

Ooh, a SkullKnightmon deck seems much more feasible if they're bringing in all the Mode Changes and DigiXroses.

Just Evolving into this card from regular SkullKnightmon gives him Jamming and SA+1 from the latter's Inherited Skill, a perfect combination.

I expect Arrow Mode and Naginata Mode to be Option cards at most; maybe alternate artworks for the base SkullKnightmon. They're more just weapons that SkullKnightmon (and DarkKnightmon too) can summon, rather than an actual Xros or Mode Change.

Big Axe Mode is a proper DeadlyAxemon-Xros though, with its own DRB profile (Cavalier Mode too).

That was just the anime doing that like how sometimes alphamon pulls out the ouryuken sword. They're considered their own thing that's why they're stated to be mode changes as well not any different to the difference between Shoutmon x3 and x4

Also I just realised this art could've just been a regular SkullKnightmon art lol

In both of those examples, the weapons (Ouryuken and Star Sword) are composed of the entirety of another Digimon (or a group of Digimon, in the case of the Star Sword). The bow and naginata are not an entire DeadlyAxemon.

Ouryuken Mode also has physical alterations to the base Alphamon, the feathered wings.

Pretty sure it's all if Axemon otherwise where is the rest of his body?

Its body is not there, hence my whole point. All other "enhancement" Xroses, like Cyber Launcher or Dorulu Cannon, use the whole body. Even the parts that aren't visible are hidden or repurposed somewhere else on the body.

Arrow and Naginata Modes were just little gimmicks you could do with the little extra bits from the DeadlyAxemon toy, but actual body of the toy is left unused. Even DeadlyTuwarmon stuck DeadlyAxemon's whole body on its back.

You also haven't addressed how DarkKnightmon can still access the weapons. Should there be a DarkKnightmon Arrow Mode? Did it Xros with itself? But I digress, the main counterpoint is the fact that Arrow and Naginata Modes don't have DRB profiles, any official artworks, or even labeled with a distinct name in their debut animated appearance. That doesn't mean it's impossible, but it does make it much more unlikely than if they did have such things.

To be fair, I had to look up DeadlyTuwarmon on Wikimon to realize the part I emphasized in your post because the best review of the Damemon/Tuwarmon Xros Figure only stuck DeadlyAxemon's front legs on it for that DigiXros.

You also haven't addressed how DarkKnightmon can still access the weapons. Should there be a DarkKnightmon Arrow Mode? Did it Xros with itself? To be fair on the Xros Figure for DarkKnightmon at least, you can see DeadlyAxemon's back legs AKA SkullKnightmon Armed Mode's bow on DarkKnightmon's back and likewise the dumbbell used for Armed Mode's Naginata is also used for DarkKnightmon's Twin Spear meaning that both weapons would be technically possible for the figure:
Xrosfigure_darkknightmon.jpg

While the point about there being no Field Guide profile(s) is valid, there are other Digimon that have a similar issue such as Splashmon's "Darkness Mode" which is just its true form being treated as a DigiXros for the sake of consistency with the four of his fellow Death Generals that have actual Darkness Mode DigiXrosses.
