When you ask a senior illustrator who is super good at illustrating mecha, this is what you get. A magnificent artwork.

Shoutmon X7's design is honestly a mess, but I can't hate that classic Sentai Robo aesthetic.

this. I love the aesthetic but then I go to read the character design and remember how cluttered and clunky X7 looks and I hate how it's entirely the digimon and not the artist at all bringing this art down for me

Watching Xros Wars increased my appreciation for the Shoutmon line... But at the same time I can sense the effort I am making to try to see the positive and good side of designs like this, because is really not easy.

As others have mentioned many times before, they often look too cluttered and clunky, unnatural. It just looks like something that shouldn't even be able to move. That is true for all mecha in a realistic sense, but is the work of design to make you believe otherwise.

I also recall while watching Xros Wars thinking "well, yes the designs might be overtly toyetic and obviously made with some product in mind. But at least it must translate really well to the real toys. They must look just like the show."

They don't, they really don't. I have seen pictures of some of the Xros Wars toys, and is like all this effort to make easy-to-translate to toy designs did nothing for it. They look real bad. :(

yeah 😕 even though Xros Wars is my least favorite Digimon thing, I really want them to come out with a quality toy line that doesn't cut corners as the anime designs allow it to be more than possible to get near show accurate toys.

The recent Digivolving Spirits and The Digimon toy lines giving us great executions of old toy ideas makes me want it even more

To be fair SkullKnightmon, DeadlyAxemon, Damemon/Tuwarmon and their Fusions were some of the better translations to toy form in the original Xros Figure series imo.

The problem is that we’re probably not gonna see the return of the Digivolving Spirits line thanks to mismanagement of said line.

@Bancho Yeah, an actual proper line of high quality figures or toys could really make some of these shine.

Darkknightmon + related digimon really are some of the best designed digimon for the specific intent the series seems to be going for in terms of toyetic designs. I just checked their toys, and yeah, they are the best ones.

(What happened with Digivolving Spirits?)

Shoutmon X7 should join Soul of Chogokin collection.

Shoutmon X7 also deserves a Figure-rise Standard Amplified so that we might see the adjusted version of this Great Xros form.

Goddamn that's beautiful.

Honestly, compared to some Sentai robots (thinking of, like, Engine-oh G12 and Samurai Haoh here, you know, those ones), X7 is frigging streamlined. Yeah, it's not even remotely symmetrical and has a bunch of stuff going on, proud robot tradition dating back as far as God Mars for a reason, but like, it's not even Kanzen Gokaioh tier, and considering they're both ultimate combinations and have the same number of components that's a great thing to say about X7.

It’s so weird that it feels like they put more effort into the villains than the heroes. I also feel pretty strongly that Dark knightmon and his two halves should have been Gulus Gammamon style characters rather than explicit antagonists

Basically it was canceled before they even got to the Digimon that people were actually interested in engineering wise (Biyomon > Garudamon, Palmon > Lillymon and Gomamon > Zudomon).

I can see this working given how SkullKnightmon and DarkKnightmon were used in Adventure 2020.

Hell, have SkullKnightmon and DeadlyAxemon return as reformed villains with Ryoma from Hunters as their partner. The idea being that the Digimon and Ryoma view their partnership as being out of necessity but aren’t exactly thrilled by who they are now stuck with and thus must learn to see each as more than merely a means to an end (SkullKnightmon and DeadlyAxemon needing Ryoma I’m order to perform Fusion and Ryoma in turn seeing them as a replacement for Quartzmon while also being fully aware of SkullKnightmon’s history of backstabbing and thus being distrustful of the pair).

Yes, we cannot see X6's face clearly. That's why the profile will help.
It's like the manga deliberately made him to pose like that in that specific panel to hide the face for some reasons. Maybe to hide the face of him because they hadn't yet decided how he would look like back there? Since almost all Shoutmon Xros forms from X3 to X7 including EX6 have different faces?
X6 also has a different weapon when we can see a ring made of Pickmon around the staff.

Its face is the same as X7's. There's no new Digimon to give it a new face. It's just X7 without Sparrowmon and the Starmons are wrapped around the microphone because they don't have the Sparrowmon wings to connect to.

It makes sense. So ideally it should look like X7's face. Unless there's a surprise later, for now it's the same X7's face.

One thing to note is that the faces of the main-numbered Shoutmon Xroses (which excludes EX6, but its face could still be present somewhere) don't just appear out of nowhere. The faces are all pre-existing parts from the Xros components. X3/X4's face is Shoutmon's mic. X5's face is attached to Sparrowmon's butt. X7's face is attached to OmegaShoutmon's back.

Personally, I'm fine if they don't recognize X6 in the future. It disrupts the trend with all of the other main-numbered Shoutmon Xroses, because it's a form that relies on removing components (in this case, Sparrowmon), rather than adding components.
