The Nyaromon talk gave me an interesting idea… We have 3 true Gatomon subspecies as well as 3 Botamon subspecies*. But the Botamon subspecies can be fairly different. This sort of shows the idea of convergent evolution, albeit imperfectly. In some extreme examples, species that are fairly distantly related converge to the point that it pretty much requires a specialist to distinguish the two (there's a pair of lizards like this that comes to mind, but I don't recall anything more from a class… shoot, close to a decade ago).
So here, the fairly distinctive Botamons converge for 2 stages due to being under the same selective pressures. Afterwards, when that selective pressure is no more, they begin to diverge again with a few older traits popping back up. Gatomon and BlackGatomon revert to their original coat color, while Mikemon draws upon latent jungle data.
Botamon → Nyaromon → Salamon → BlackGatomon
SnowBotamon → Nyaromon → Salamon → Gatomon
Nyokimon → Nyaromon → Salamon → Mikemon
*Nyokimon's profile denotes it as a variant of Botamon.
Meicoomon's also sort of Gatomon-adjacent as well, with her own recolors of Nyaromon and Salamon. Since it also contains the data from Apocalymon, I wanted to look at this as a sort of malicious version of mimicry (like that of social parasites that have a similar appearance to their host species). I'd also considered the likes of Kiimon and Kuramon for the Fresh stage (Kuramon's used prominently for viral lines in Digimon: ReArise), but I preferred the versatility of Zurumon with the Meicoomon line's color scheme. I also did a new take on an Apocalymon line. Both take a bit of influence from Digimon Adventure: (2020).
Zurumon → unnamed Nyaromon recolor → unnamed Salamon recolor → Meicoomon (→ Mephismon or → Meicrackmon)
Zurumon → Pagumon → Tsukaimon → Devimon → Phelesmon → DoneDevimon → Apocalymon
