The old man nodded.
"Very good, then," he said, his solemn tone softened only slightly by his ever gentle smile. "In that case, you're going to need a few things. First, I'll explain how your Digivices work."
He indicated the devices that the three trainers held in their hands.
"These serve several important functions. First and foremost, the Digivice is the link between a Digimon tamer and his or her partner Digimon. When tied to a Digivice, a Digimon will use it as its respawn point if derezzed, rather than returning here. By befriending your Digimon, installing the necessary plugins and achieving synergy in battle, you can also use the Digivice to help them to temporarily Digivolve to the next immediate level of power before they would naturally do so.
"The Digivice also contains the Digimon Analyzer, a program much like your own world's Pokédex. This will tell you the basic information about a Digimon's species, as well as statistical data for individual specimens. Be sure to use this feature often, as it will tell you in precise detail the strengths and weaknesses of both your foes and your allies.
"Finally, you will be relieved to know that the Digivice can be used to transport you back to your own world at any time. You will always exit through the same computer terminal from which you entered, and when you next visit the Digital World, you will be returned to where you were before you left. You can scroll through these options using the buttons on the right side of the device, and the button on the left side is the 'select' key."
His expression suddenly hardened.
"Before I go on, I must stress something very important," he declared firmly. "While in your own world, you cannot reveal the existence of the Digital World to anyone. If word of this world's true nature were to spread, sonicstar229 would be the least of our problems."
After taking a moment to confirm that he was understood, his face relaxed again.
"Now, to the part you've all been waiting for," he smiled. "A Digimon tamer isn't a Digimon tamer until he or she has a Digimon partner."
He indicated the Kuramon, Mokumon and Fufumon at Celia, David and Pearce's feet, respectively.
"From the looks of things, I'd say that these three are to be your first partners. They may not look like much now, but if you train them well, they will grow into fierce fighters before your very eyes."
Reaching back, he opened a satchel on his belt and produced three additional devices with clamshell designs, handing one to each of the DigiDestined.
"To get the most out of your Digimon, you will also require these D-Terminals. They do everything a Digivice doesn't—with them, you can purchase powerups, store items and recruited Digimon, access comprehensive help manuals, and make julienne fries!"
He chuckled at his own joke briefly, then seemed to realize how stupid it was, turning aside and coughing into his hand to recover his dignity.
"Any questions so far?"
