It's always great to see more stuff as well as returning artists.
I don't really see the point of keeping the title of the manga hidden for a single month but okay.
So let's dig into the possibilities here...
The main character sure looks like "Hiro" but on the other hand the only matching design element is the hair.
V-Tamer Taichi did not only share his hairstyle but also his outfit with "regular" Taichi but here even the rest of the clothing is different. So based on that, I hope it establishes itself as a separate story from Ghost Game (also, if it was a tie-in I think they would have revealed the title now for extra marketing for both manga and anime).
Mind you this has nothing to do with any expectations or lack thereof towards Ghost Game. Even if the anime was guaranteed quality, I'd prefer it to be independent if only for the sake of longevity. That V-Tamer was not strongly associated with the rest of Adventure was one of the reasons why it was able to continue without feeling stale even when Adventure had been off the air for years.
Conversely, if a manga is nothing more than a side story to the anime, then why keep it around when the main event is done?
The cautionary example is of course the Appmon manga which had only the one year running time of its anime counterpart to work with, which combined with being monthly was just a recipe for disaster. And indeed, it ended up being a rushed mess that never really found its own voice.
And if anything deserves a chance to go big it's another Yabuno manga. Because of course the big question is "could this reach the heights that V-Tamer reached?"
Saikyo Jump... unfortunately kinda a red flag in this context.
The magazine seems to specialize weird spin-off and gag manga; For instance they published like a One Piece spoof where the main character can only stretch his dick. Riveting stuff.
That's not to say that it's all like that, there is the odd not-a-complete-joke manga. For example Jigoku Sensei Nube Neo by Digimon Next artist Takeshi Okano was published there at least for some of its run and seems to be generally decent.
But on the bright side being monthly and not bi-monthly like Appmon academy could mean that there is at least some potential for a more substantial story.
Pulsemon as a partner is also not the worst start. After DORUmon, Dracomon and Aegiomon, Pulsemon is the latest attempt at a of a Digimon with varying and situational evolutions that are still part of the same "family" so to speak. But the franchise has a bad habit of never really exploring those variations meaningfully.
And while I'm generally mixed on the Pulsemon line in general (The evolutions range from "pretty nice" to "that's be best you could come up with?" while Pulsemon itself just a pretty generic semi-humanoid mini beast) there is lots of potential in terms of execution, mostly through the often mentioned "have multi-path evolution be an active tool for the tamer" approach that Digimon sometimes teases but then never really commits to.
And V-Tamer's biggest strength was committing and exploiting exactly those sorts abilities and mechanics, a particularly fitting example is the treatment of Human and Beast spirits in the Frontier Generation One-Shot which had some very interesting ideas about utilizing slide evolution in battle that were based on more nuanced tactical advantages than just raw strength.
But maybe that's getting ahead of myself. Having not really read much of Yabuno's work outside of V-Tamer, I don't know how much of the tactical approach to battles was his work or how much was Hiroshi Izawa's contribution... and of course we don't know yet if Izawa is involved as well.
In any case I'm really looking forward to this one.
