During a Bandai-Namco Q&A telephone conference discussing their results for their financial first quarter (April through June 2020), the upcoming release of Digimon New Century in China came up (the game is technically live, although it appears they consider it a beta and not fully launched.)

While no announcement was made, it seems to have been implied that they are looking into a Japanese release for the game.

Assuming it happens, more to come.

Prior information on New Century can be found here.

Thanks to Gamebiz for the info, a friend of the site for the heads up, and onkei for translation help,

I've looked at the New Century artwork on Wikimon, and I got to say, some of the art is perfectly fine, and some of it just feels off to me. Anyone else get that vibe?

Some of them have really weird shading.

That said, a lot of digimon just got new art for the first time in a very, very long time, so I can't really say I care overmuch.

Can't say I would be overly excited to play it (95% chance of being yet another greedy gacha fest) but in general it would be nice to have.
Judging from the latest trailers it doesn't look too bad graphics wise, the models are the tried and true cyber sleuth ones, but for shading they are using a much more high contrast cel-shading approach than usual, which is a bit of a change from the previous games which kind of used the outlines and staggered shadows but never really committed to that aesthetic. It's probably primarily just about simplifying the graphics down for lower-end phones but so far it looks like they are making it actually work.

I wouldn't just say "some"; a lot of artwork for the game looks amateurish.
Body parts are occasionally misshapen, sometimes even general proportions are messed up, perspective tends to be obviously wrong whenever there's much depth involved and poses tend to look either pretty stiff or just kind of awkward.
And all of those are the sort of beginner mistakes I would expect to see in fan art but never in professional illustrations for an actual game.

I wouldn't have expected that, huh. If it did come out in Japan that would pretty much number ReArise's days.

A Japanese launch would prob mean a launch in the west at some point too - and western ReArise has been adding Digimon at a ridiculously fast pace - in a bid to catch up to Japan I guess. Theyre now getting to a point where they're adding Digimon and seemingly skipping the SDQ's attacthed to them, as Dianamon and Alphamon Ouryuken have been added but in Japan they came alongside Dianamon and Royal Knight SDQs, but those appear to have been skipped in the west (annoyingly) so in that case the dubbed version going alarmingly fast. If theyre prepping for a release of New Century in the west too then that'd explain why theyre going this ridiculously fast though I guess the biggest would just be to catch up to Japan.

What I managed to see of New Century in Chinese it does seem like a decent enough game, has some extra Digimon like Kazemon and Candlemon which will hopefully be reused in future games, and it seems like even more will come as they have a side story thing that covers the anime's story - starting with Adventure and will supposedly go up to Fusion. If they cover every episode that's a lot of new Digimon models.

As for the art mentioned,it's possible they'll get replaced as like Marc mentioned it's only in Beta right now - but I don't really see anything wrong with most, or any, of them. Also note that those arts are from their attack animations rather than a generic "stock" pose or whatever.

As a rule, I don’t trust Chinese software.

Even if this game isn’t great, if it came out in the west I’d be curious to try it simply because I think it would be interesting to compare it to the Japanese-made Digimon mobile games. See the difference in design sensibilities and all. I think Rearise is fun enough, but some aspects of it are SUCH a drag, like the constant bit starvation or getting enough materials for evolution.

From experience, and from everyone else who has experience, while there are a number of exceptions to the rule Chinese mobages tend to be much more money grubbing than others. This isn't always true (FGO, being both old as balls and not having changed much in this regard, is a peak example) but it's how this stuff generally works.

That said, what matters is the actual gameplay. If it's fun to play, people will overlook that more.

I noticed off the bat that they used Coronamon's and Apollomon's anime designs (Coronamon with green eyes and Apollomon's knee claws being more shovels or sporks instead of claws) and on the topic of Coronamon it looks like they were referencing the Digimon Collectors art pretty noticeably but not to the extent that I can rule out coincidence

edit: since this game is live in China, is there any place you guys know of where I can see any gameplay footage? YouTube gives nothing

the game is based on the anime and will be following the anime's storyline kinda like adventure psp (whilst also having its own storyline as well).

for more examples in regards to anime, it's using neptunemon's and lilithmon's re-designs from digimon fusion. weregarurumon doesnt have his tail like in adventure (which extends to the black recolour this time round), theyre using the "bio" design of Lotusmon instead of the regular one.

also for examples on them seemingly basing art on already existing arts - the moyjamon one is just an animeified version of the existing DRB art with icicles added into its hands.

as for gameplay, there are the following videos:

these are the only ones I know of. chinese game footage is very difficult to find, so if the game does come out in japan it would make seeing the gameplay and what not a lot easier.

No, Biolotusmon's got a green gun thing on its head. In the last of those videos you see Lotusmon with a purple one, like the original.

I wouldn't be shocked if both were in though.

as for gameplay, there are the following videos:

I'm eerily reminded of Symphogear XDU.

In fact, the whole setup is starting to remind me of XDU. Starts with a bunch of stages based on the various stories, then most of the bulk of the plot comes from events I'd imagine. Which is a problem because I definitely recall XDU only being good because of the god tier music and the plot, and the gameplay being an issue so bad it shut down its worldwide version within months.

The materials is true but I have so many bits. I did get what you mean before though.

I figure this might replace ReArise. ...Mostly because I have no space or maybe even time for another one.

I'm glad it wasn't just me who saw that! And thanks others who replied to my post. I like getting to see new artwork for Digimon too... but when it looks off, it just irks me.

I must do something wrong because I am ALWAYS blowing all my bits on leveling or improving skills. Maybe it is because I actually bother to level the skills of my mons that can’t evolve past Perfect.

does anybody know why, according to Wikimon, Flaremon isn't in this game? It seems very odd to me as the rest of the Coronamon line and Lunamon's entire evolution line are all in

I doubt that Wikimon’s list is comprehensive, considering how spotty our information is.

I see that Wikimon's pages aren't complete now, like how Muur and Mattman324 were talking about Lotusmon and BioLotusmon like only one or the other is in the game earlier in this thread when the end of this video reveals that there's actually both in New Century but Wikimon only lists BioLotusmon and only has BioLotusmon's art (in this video you can also see that Lotusmon has its own art) https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Vf4y197gw
now I'm curious just how many Digimon we aren't aware of yet

Assume that any Digimon who had a notable role in the anime alongside a smattering of others who have easily importable assets will get in automatically - while something like Cyclomon or Minotaurmon is pretty much SOL at launch (barring they have the assets Cyclomon will use in Survive I guess?) and shit like Lampmon has no chance (probably even after launch...), it's pretty obvious that even though no one has seen it yet, BioDarkdramon is pretty much a safe guess.

Similarly if something has bit roles in a bunch of series it might slip in through that. Gorimon hasn't had much of a "major role" yet, but it was an MotW in 02, Tamers, and Adventure: with at least some notability in each (in 02 it fought Michael instead of any of the main cast members, in Tamers it had that big fight against Guilmon and Terriermon and some backstory beef, in Adventure: it was the big threat in that fortress onslaught a few episodes ago), so it being in isn't confirmed but could totally be possible.

The big thing though is that eventually they're going to put more big name Digimon in, and sometimes the road to big named digimon are paved with Digimon that most of the general audience forgot about.

Cyclonemon has a model from Cyber Sleuth, though. if they recycle the cyber sleuth roster like all the other games have recently he'll be in.

Anyway Wikimon just has the list from all the art that was datamined.

Flaremon wasn't among the uploaded art, so whilst it's "probably" in, "probably" isn't official confirmation.

And you know it looks like they might have regular Lotusmon playable but with the art used being the Bio version. https://www.bilibili.com/s/video/BV1jk4y1z7BC this vid shows that lilamons mega form is biolotusmon in this game
