The Digimon Card Game Twitter has updated with a card preview from Booster Set 6 Double Diamond. This time it's ModokiBetamon.

It's ModokiBetamon! This 'other' Betamon is pretty much just Betamon... although it can also control water a bit (it's proud of this because Betamon can't... although Betamon can, so shhh....) and is a slightly lighter shade of green

Booster Set 6 Double Diamond is scheduled for release on May 28th.

Previous Card previews for Booster Set 6:

We have clean card images for Starter Decks 7 & 8, plus Delay Promos, Tamers Battle Pack 5, 1st Anniversary Promos, & Pulsemon.

We've also gotten our first details for Booster EX-01 Classic Collection!

This is the first time he's been seen since the PS1 holy shit. They really will use everyone in this card game. That seems to be Coela Beach he's at?

YES! YES!! MORE DEEP CUTS!!

Looking on Wikimon, it seems this guy's last appearance was a Hyper Colosseum card in 2001. Wow, 20 years out of action. It really seems like no Digimon is too obscure for the new card game, and I couldn't be happier.

Gasp ModokiBetamon's effect so strong. ALL TURNS? Cruel. Brutal he needs to be renamed as NiseBetamon.

Surprised to see this critter again after so long.

Given we got Terriermon, Chuumon and Gazimon all who had the same effect in BT-03, I wouldn't be surprised if we also got the corresponding 'mons for Red and Yellow in this Set.

gotta love how some mons have evolved over the years.

Modokibeta's original claim to fame seemed to be water type betamon (where as normal beta i guess was electric type) But then later on betamon gains the water skills basically rolling him and modoki into a single being rendering his "water type betamon" aspect totally moot.

Now he's just basically "shiny betamon"

Last appearance was a cameo in Digimon World 3 in 2002, so yes, PS1 era. Though I'm not sure if it showed up before or after the one in the D-Spirit did.

I'm guessing you're referring to the card mini-game in DW3, which mostly just retooled card images from Digital Card Arena.

To be fair, most of Betamon's "Water-type" traits seem to come solely from it being an amphibian. Though, depending on the media, it seems that both of them are capable of using water and electric moves, I guess with the trade-off being that each Betamon specializes in one over the other. If anything, I feel like the Cyber Sleuth games slyly implied that vanilla Betamon is kinda bad at using water moves (it only learns Ice Archery naturally, which it should NOT be using over Dengeki Biririn given how bad its physical attack is..... though I guess it also picks up Hydro Water if you evolve it from Pukamon).

Also for what it's worth, Modoki's a Data, unlike its counterpart's Virus attribute. That makes it stand apart a bit more than other imitation species like NiseDrimogemon or Gururumon.

Back when Garurumon was Data, Gururumon being Vaccine set it apart. Nisedrimogemon was a similar story - for a while it was a Vaccine variant.

But then they made Garurumon Vaccine and Nisedrimogemon Data, and that distinction was lost for them.

ModokiBetamon being Data and using Water+Electric (even tho Betamon can too, terrible research there Agumon Expert and Terriermon Assistant) makes him a better fit for Seadramon than regular Betamon.

Wasn't Garurumon Vaccine from the start (or rather, since attributes were first introduced)? I mean, the Hyper Colosseum card game constantly fluctuated between making it a Vaccine or a Data (with its very first card being a Data), but it seems that its appearances in both Digimon World and Pendulum 3.0, in which it was Vaccine, predate that first card by a few months. But it is certainly odd that the Gabumon line does all this back-and-forth between Vaccine and Data to begin with.

As for NiseDrimogemon being Vaccine, were the enemy attributes from Digimon World ever revealed in any official source? Or were they always just meant to be hidden away within the game's data?

You know, it always did bug me that Betamon couldn't become Seadramon in Digimon World 2. I mean, evolution chains typically stuck to one attribute so as to work more easily with the Guard Tamer system (at least in the early game), but they didn't seem to mind the likes of Patamon>Angemon or Greymon>SkullGreymon changing them (and much like those, Betamon>Seadramon is evolving from the dominant attribute, which would make it easy to Jogress back to the Child form..... instead, the evolutions Betamon did get were among the few in the game that never went beyond Perfect). Even still, they could've included the Data ModokiBetamon as part of Seadramon's line, but instead it got dummied out of the game entirely.

Enemy Digimon in World 1 run away if you have the super effective attribute and super high stats. So it's super easy to test what attribute they are

If you had 8+ DP, sure, but given Betamon had three different evolutions already maybe they felt like it had enough or something. Which would be weird given multiple things had 4 evolutions at the Child level (and Hagurumon had 5, but that's kind of cheating, they shoved most of the joke evolutions onto Hagurumon) but...

I mean, there were plenty of Childs that had 4 different evolutions. In fact, Seadramon's actual Child form in that game, Ganimon, had to pull a balancing act with pretty much every Data Deep Savers in existence at the time (Seadramon, Coelamon, Shellmon, as well as Shellmon's not-so-aquatic recolor MoriShellmon).

Personally, I think Black Sword kinda got screwed. No cross-attribute evolutions, and Viruses have the highest number of evolution chains that fail to reach Ultimate. In contrast, Vaccines are ALWAYS capable of evolving, even when it doesn't particularly make sense like Giromon to Seraphimon (and yet somehow, they felt the need to make Mugendramon exclusive to SkullGreymon, which is in turn exclusive to Greymon, rather than letting it also evolve from the shitload of Virus dragons and machines that are otherwise stuck at Perfect).
