Huanglongmon & Cardinal Directions of the Holy Beasts Previews for Booster Set EX-05

The Digimon Card Game Twitter (2) has updated with card previews from Booster Set EX-05 Animal Colosseum. This time it's Huanglongmon & Cardinal Directions of the Holy Beasts.

Huanglongmon features a nicely detailed and shiny piece of art for the well known Digimon, while option card Cardinal Directions of the Holy Beasts shows off the positioning of each holy beast, with Huanglongmon at their center. This option card is one that had an identically named card in the original card game, although it doesn't appear to be a remake, rather just a function of the relationship between the characters.

You would want as many of that option card in security as possible. Use purple cards to mill during the early game to fill up trash with different named monsters and Fanglongmon. Then when the option is activated in security just take the Fanglongmon back late game and play them for little cost. If their is a yellow Deva that allows you to rig your security with Deva/Four Beast cards this deck could be deadly.

Looking at Fanglongmon having no when digivolution effect but an on play one i assume using the option is the proper way to get him on the field. This is going to be a deck where you spend a lot of the match on the backfoot but if all your pieces are set up you just crush your opponent when they are a move away from victory.

The wording of that option card just screams a certain mode is waiting in the wings. Normal Fanglongmon is already powerful enough i can't imagine what they can do to make digivolving into that mode worth it lol.

I'd guess that in most situations, you don't want to play him for the full cost, and just go over any sovereign for 4 cost instead. He has complete protection from digimon effects so it doesn't matter if you have less than 4 memory. And I guess, as long as you have 4 memory, you'll have enough to evo and attack and proc both effects, wiping an opponent's board and possibly burning a security. Also, the evo into each sovereign is free on an opponent's attack, so a common line might be play a makura, set a deva in raising, <counter> <blast evo> into Azulong, block/unsuspend/bounce, and then on your turn evo into Huanglong and force them to have an option removal piece.

The Option made me just realize, color-wise, Huanglongmon can evolve from Baihumon (Black/Yellow) and Qinglongmon (Blue/Yellow) but not the other two (although he still has the alternate evolution condition). The other two's secondary color is Purple, which likely corresponds to Huanglongmon Ruin Mode.

Interesting… not all of the colours in the Option match to the mythlogical Four Symbols (Black Tortoise, White Tiger, Blue-green/Azure Dragon, Vermillion Bird), but they do match up to the 02 Digimon which have (very loose) connections to them (GranKuwagamon’s black and has a shell, Vikemon‘s a beast with white fur, Veemon’s entire line is blue dragons, Hawkmon/Aquilamon are red birds)

Considering this set is also Dawn/Dusk themed, I'm assuming Gracenovamon will be the other secret rare and Ruin Mode will either be a super rare or will be saved for a future set.

So what you're saying is, Shin Ryukouoh can evolve from Ryuohki and Kouohki?

I also noticed that their energy colors in this option card's art *almost* align to the colors of their external digicores except for Ebonwumon whose cores are the same beige color as its skin. It's kind of silly how the Sovereigns' digicore colors are yellow, red, blue... and beige
