They're really emphasizing the UMA-theme with Gammamon's profile
I don't know what UMA is and the internet isn't helping
"Unidentified Mysterious Animal". It's an acronym inspired by "UFO", and it's basically the Japanese term for "cryptids". It has a connotation towards the extraterrestrial, due to the aforementioned UFO-basis.
I remember it was in Xross Wars Young Hunters episode with Ekakimon they use the term UMA.

Yes, they used the term to refer to Ekakimon and its drawings if I recall correctly. One of its drawings was even the Loch Ness monster riding a UFO.

My opinions on those designs...

I love how babies of Gammamon are basically different species of the horn dinosaurs. I'm surprised Gammamon's design is more of Agumon/Guilmon-ish rather than V-mon-ish.

Angoramon babies are hardly different... But Angoramon's design is still feel like it's Bigfoot-ish but I finally see some rabbit parts at least. Seriously squarely fingers are very odd.

Jellymon babies... Pretty refreshing designs, I'd say? I mean we actually got "good" Kuramon as Puyomon. And Puyoyomon is the best design because it's mixed of sea pig, jelly, and certain octopus species also deep abyss creatures with glowing lights! Just perfect! And Jellymon's design is odd but it really does feel like it's Child Hybrid for Ranamon yet it's Child level with more heavier details. I wonder if Jellymon's armor legs are just armor or it's really thicker legs?

Oh now I better read all profiles!

Very cool how we've gotten these profiles so quickly! Creates quite a good precedent for future Ghost Game additions!

Yeah I was a little disappointed that their baby versions continue the trend of "small rounded heads of rookie forms", but it's been that way forever. Still, having a new, more generic, baby form would be nice. Imagine a mix-up where all the babies are the same but go home with the wrong partners...

Also not a huge fan of Gammamons art? I like the quadrupedal aspect, but the dark lines are evocative of the style used during Fusion/Xros Wars, and we all know how that turned out...

I am really excited these profiles popped up so quickly! I think if Pyonmon was just a yellow furball with the single ear (like a yellow fuzzy Chicomon) his design would've gone over better. Also the Child-level art is so much more expressive and animated, like Angoramon seems way more violent than his Toei render, and Jellymon comes off as more mischievous.

I note that unusually all of the protagonists’ partners can fly, glide, or hover. Just very poorly. Probably to enhance the comparison to spirits.

Jellymon's babies are really cute, Gammamon's are generic, and I actually really like Angoramon's for some reason. The first one just has a really cute "please don't punch me in the face <3" look.

Specific Baby forms are prob why all the games use the same generic looking ones used in the first season. The specific ones that are just Rookie's head are harder to use for any other Digimon. At least Wanyamon and Budmon from Data Squad are generic enough looking to get more action than say, Relemon which is just Renamon's head. Although the Data Squad era only used one Baby form, so those guys end up not having a "designed for" first baby stage which hurts them a bit.

I’d be fine with never getting new Babies ever again. We have nearly every single design archetype well covered except maybe a mutant/filth baby or fairies.

At the same time, I’m sick of Botamon/Punimon/Poyomon/Yuramonbeing recycled in every game. I wish they’d let other Baby 1s appear from time to time.

Like I said, I really do like these characters now. These are just enjoyable character designs.

Angoramon is a missed opportunity as a rookie. I'd prefer it as a champion/adult. That being said, it could still have a brilliant line anyway and its babies look amazing! (I hope they also make a Lama rookie evolving from those at some point, the lama vibes are strong on the second one.)
Overall some of the best baby designs ever, eh? Not a fan of Gammamon's, I'd have a appreciated some old-fashioned (but classic) random evos a-la first season roster. Overall an extremely interesting cast still.

Hm? The style more reminiscent of the style Kenji Watanabe used back in the 90s.
Agumon.jpg

Xros wars had the lines extending from the outline in a weird way.

And I fail to see the correlation between the art style and the quality of xros wars

Yeah Xros War arts with Street Fighter style but in lines instead.

It always have black lines outside of Xros War digimon's outline designs.

Yeah, most Xros wars had the stylized X outlines (also ridiculous) but I was thinking more of those introduced in that era that didn't have those Xs that were still in this sort of deep black/edgy style that the series tried to pivot to. I dunno, maybe it's just because Gammamon is white so the contrast is that much more; I generally like Watanabe's grungy style, and this seems too clean for that, but just my overall impression.

Yeah, the art for these three looks way off in Watanabe's style. He took three very clean designs and added a bunch of unecessary shading and grime to them. It looks like they all rolled in dirt. Not a fan. For once, the Toei art is better.

Jellymon's design is hampered by one thing - those stupid boots that go up to her waist.

These guys are really starting to grow on me, I'm liking them much more than I did when they were originally leaked. Jellymon is an electric jellyfish, I love those! Yet they're surprisingly rare outside of... Spongebob Squarepants.

I will echo some other people's sentiments that I'm not crazy about Baby Digimon that look like they're designed to specifically be one Child's baby forms; makes them really hard to fit into other evolution lines. But it's a pretty minor complaint and just looking at them in isolation, they are really cute.

Mostly I'm excited to see what other new Digimon come out of Ghost Game. Now that it's officially confirmed to have a paranormal/cryptid/UFO theme going on, I'm eagerly imagining the possibilities for new cryptozoology-based Digimon. There's a lot out there to draw inspiration from!

I find it amusing to see Digimon labeled as rarely emotive but never drawn as such. Reminds me of how Tamers portrayed Makuramon.
