Fun Digica 106- Booster Set 8 Card Previews Part 2- Cherubimon, Rapidmon, Armor Texture, & Hikari

Episode 106 of Fun Digica just went up.

The new episode of Fun Digica has Cody and Miyano introduce cards from Booster Set 8 New Hero! This time we get a small stack of 02 related cards focusing on well known characters.



Jump into the cards. These are ones we haven't seen before.

Themed off them giving us a Wallace preview last night...

We start off with Cheribumon (Vice) and the original armor version of Rapidmon.
Then we get option card Armor Texture!!, which has some really great brand new art of V-mon and his primary armor evolutions. This card is a take on Bo-494 from the original card game.
Then we finish with a tamer card for Hikari. Her 02 design gets brand new anime styled artwork, which looks quite nice.


And after Fun Digica went up, they put up larger previews which have the sample text.

Some really nice looking cards, each with quite a bit of a different art style to them.

As expected, with Rapidmon Gold as lv4 he can evolve to Rapidmon Green. Amusing, when Gold Rapidmon is "equal to Mega". He gets weaker when he evolves to Rapidmon Green.

Anyway the best news there is that he's a primary yellow instead of green, so that actually frees up an extra possible slot for lv4 green maybe meaning Pulsemon will get two green lv4 slots.

Quite a lot to unpack here.

Hikari - Unfortunately she gets stuck with the generic "put your memory to 3" but that second skill to further increase your memory when your Security increases could be good.

Cherubimon - Kinda reminds me of Cerberusmon: Werewolf Mode with that whole deleting a Purple Cherubimon, although unlike that card you still have to pay some to get Virtue out onto the field.

Rapidmon (Armour) - Pretty standard Armour-fare at this point. Although I must confess to feeling the Colours are the wrong way around since he Rests Digimon first and only then can lower DP.

only times ive seen it close to mega is in vpets. I have doubts that Pulse will get 2 lvl4s as unlike lvl5's theres less to go around for future evo lines

Lopmon continues to embrace being a yellow and purple deck, I see. The yellow & green combo seems a little underrepresented right now only Digmon & Rapidmon (Gold). Don't think this set will have enough space to expand on that.

Guess there dwindles my hope of getting a yellow LoaderLiomon in this set. Ultimates will be Betsumon, Kyukimon and appearently the last one will be Shakkoumon (unless they choose to make him blue as it's primary colour for some reason). Seems like there will be only 2 yellow megas.

But in general I'm really looking forward to seeing the full card list and snatching some of the cards from this set.

Interestingly, unlike Magnamon who boosts his own DP to rival Lv.6+ Digimon, Rapidmon significantly decreases his opponents' DP instead for a similar but supportive effect.

That was one of the gimmicks the Armors had back in the old days, if memory served - halving opponent attack stats.

It was probably Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru? Isn't he the main anime artist

The art is not Nakatsuru. It doesn't fit his style of the time, or of now in various ways.



There is no artist credit because there is likely no single artist 'to' credit.

They get no credit because they are likely done by a team/division of Bandai or Toei that specifically does promotional type art that has specific looks to it.

If it 'were' Nakatsuru with just a different style, it would be heavily labeled as such, as specialty artists would be hot commodities to get even more people buying.


It isn't impossible that Nakatsuru did early sketchwork for it and a team finished it, but it feels rather unlikely, as having his name on the card game would be of great value to Bandai. Anytime he's worked on the franchise in recent years they've always shown it off as something important.

I just had a thought, these Armour supporting cards could cause some minor confusion for English players as several of the Legend-Arms have "Armour" (防具型) listed in their Type on their respective cards as opposed to the actual Armour (アーマー体) Digimon that are supposed to be the target of these types of cards.

Lord knows I forget which 'mons are Armour if they didn't appear in the 02 anime and wouldn't have questioned it if it said so on the card.
