As we've seen before, this is about double what appeared at the end of the show itself.


Volcano Ota also confirmed he would be in this episode, but whoever could he be playing? Perhaps the preview has a clue...

Hey, we FINALLY get one of the OG recurring villains to show up after Devimon bit the dust and...he's reduced to an antagonist of the week. I'd be mad if it were anyone else, but Etemon was essentially the joke villain, at least in personality.

It's pretty improbable, but as we're getting so many new evos for older Digimon... Could we get a new Volcamon Ultimate? Maybe by jogressing with Etemon or to compete with KingEtemon? We still have 5 Volcamon's Ultimates in the Hints Limbo...

I have said it but I will say it again. Vamdemon will appear and evolve to NeoVamdemon so as to introduce a Mega evolution (maybe Holydramon/Goddramon or Ophanimon/Seraphimon). Why is that? Because most of the Xros Wars Digimon that got a level appeared in the show.

In all honesty, Myostismon is too big of a villian for them to just throw away. He has huge history with the franchise if they decide to explore his character. Regarding Etemon, I never really considered Etemon to be a main threat that worked with the powers of darkness like Devimon, Myotismon and the Dark Masters. Even when he was brought back, Puppetmon didn't even know who he was. I just always had the impression he was just a random digimon who had control over the continent and wanted to stop the chosen cause they could potentially stop his plans.

Yeah, Etemon may be a major villain from Adventure but unlike Devimon and Vamdemon he's never been treated as a big threat. In his other appearances like Next 0rder, Cyber Sleuth, and XW he was a joke/filler villain that barely had an impact, and even in the original Adventure he was given less weight then the other villains that appeared. Him getting the same treatment here is not really surprising as it's par the course for the character at this point, and I wouldn't use him as an indication for how Vamdemon would be treated if he does appear later.

At this point I find the idea of Vamdemon being involved as a significant threat highly dubious. Of course what with the way this show is structured who knows...

I find it weird how they went to the effort of giving Devimon a significantly expanded role (then just forgot about him), considering he is generally viewed as lower tier, and not as popular as Vamdemon or the Dark Masters seemingly (not even making it into the polls). But none of the other chief antagonists appear to be receiving the same degree of attention, with only Mugendramon coming back as a Dark Evolution.

It seemed like DarkKnightmon was going to fill that role initially, but we all know how that turned out...

It might be worth noting that in the novels at least, Etemon was in communications with Tailmon. Though really all the Adventure big bads had a pretty loose affiliation with each other. Only Apocalymon served as a main link.

I imagine if they did treat Vamdemon as a joke in some random filler it would probably be the final nail in the coffin for a large number of people still invested in this show.

Many aspects of this preview intrigues me:
- why aren't the others digivolving to challenge etemon too?
- why does patamon seem to be getting kicked out when a light appears in the background?
- why is palmon the only one who is fighting
- are these flowers from rosemon or from lilimon?
- will they put the evolution sequence of episode 12 or the one of naotoshi shida (episode 37)
- Is the light from etemon or from togemon/lilimon?
- why does etemon get red at the end, did he see the beautiful rosemon? Lol
So manyyy questions, I'm very excited for this episode!

Vamdemon’s also gotten 2 new evolutions since Adventure: Neo Devimon and Voltobautamon while the only new stuff Etemon’s gotten are Targetmon and the “even bigger joke” King Etemon.

I’m hopeful that Voltobautamon will eventually appear even if it’s as a villain of the week.

It'll never stop being amusing to me how much people just want the reboot to be a repeat of the original series lol.

The synopsis I've seen says all the Digimon except for Palmon become incapacitated because of Etemon and Volcamon, and then Mimi and Palmon... seemingly challenge them by singing maybe? It's a Mimi and Palmon episode, so they'll likely fight/pacify both Etemon and Volcamon.

I’m hopeful that Voltobautamon will eventually appear even if it’s as a villain of the week.

I think Voltobautamon is just too strong for that honestly, the impression I got from Next Order is that it's meant to be a counterpart of sorts to Millenniumon. It can take down Omegamon Alter-B (who's no pushover) and is made up of a Dark Master and Perfect level Adventure villain, just like Millenniumon. Given that Mille is part of the story here as the (seemingly) penultimate villain, I don't see Voltobautamon being anything less. But maybe I'm wrong, I'd be happy to see it too lol.

That was kind of the point with Etemon - some random nobody that happened to get a decent bit of strength (which, while definitely impressive, was outdone by some of Vamdemon's higher minions - more comparable to Tailmon really) was still able to suddenly become a massive threat because the world was fucked up enough to allow it.

That said...

Etemon murdered Leomon. Straight up. Even most minor character deaths in Adventure tended to be left to major villains, and Etemon absolutely just killed Leomon. He was... not, really, a minor villain.

I'd also not really say he was treated as a total joke in CS, as while he wasn't threatening as a villain, that's mostly because he wasn't really evil to begin with, he just wanted to get his music out there. He also is fairly useful in the fight where you had him as an ally, after he just... forces himself to evolve, because he was able to do that - but that might be that Jimiken as a boss was really weak admittedly.
