Hey, has anyone else noticed how Imperialdramon (fighter mode) has a creepy smiling face on his chest. It kinda makes me think of a cross between Shoutmon, that moment when Myotismon grew a belly-head, and a parakeet.

Check it out:

I guess that face is not much of a secret... but I don't know why one would describe it as creepy (the only armor decoration in digimon that I'd legitimately find "creepy would be Duskmon's many eyeballs) and it doesn't really look smiling to me.
This kind of chest face also isn't that rare of a mecha design honestly, and there are many Digimon besides Imperialdramon FM that feature a design like that, the ones I can name off the top of my head would be MirageGaogamon, SkullKnightmon , DarkKnightmon and Ginkakumon..

It isn't simply ornamental. That is the dragon-face of Imperial Dramon: Dragon Mode when the form of the Ancient Dragon liberated all its power (Fighter Mode). It inserts the Positron Laser from its right arm into the dragon-face and emitting all of its body's energy as a destructive energy wave called Giga Death, ten times the power of the Dragon Mode's Mega Death according to the Digimon Reference Book. We saw this in the fourth film when it battled Armagemon at Odaiba, Daiba in the Minato Ward. Within its attacks dwells the power to destroy a planet.

With the D-Arts figure you can actually insert the Positron Laser into the dragon-face and recreate this technique. I found a video on YouTube where stop motion was used with the D-Arts figures to create a battle between it and Omegamon and you can see its Giga Death collide with Omegamon's Omega Blast, a unimaginable explosion ensuing. It was brilliantly done and must have been painstaking with all the single frames it had to have taken to create it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oqr6BUyb_HQ.

I'm going to be an asshole and point out that what he used in the movie was actually Ion Blaster. Giga Death is what he used to destroy BelialVamdemon.

That attack in Movie 4 was Ion Blaster, not Giga Death. Giga Death is, as you said, formed from the cannon on his arm being attached to the mouth of his torso face, which was seen in both episode 50 of Zero Two and episode 78 of Xros Wars. Ion Blaster (not named in Movie 4, but named in other media) is formed by the mouth of his torso face producing a different-looking cannon directly from within the mouth itself, where it was hidden, which was seen in Movie 4.

For those who follow the dub, Giga Death was renamed Giga Crusher, and Ion Blaster was renamed (again, not in Movie 4 but in other media) as Ionic Blaster.

I've noticed the chest head for a long time ... Certainly it's much cooler than Dragon Mode's face. I'm not seeing the smile however, I don't think that's what the black line dividing the red section's supposed to be.

It is hard to not notice that, it is a pretty big detail. But to be honest, I can't see what exactly is so creepy about it. Imperialdramon FM looks too much like a robot for that to count as an example of bizarre anatomy body horror.

Did anyone else notice that GranKuwagamon has Imperialdramon's claws? They're kind of backwards though.

Yeah. I noticed the similarities between Imperialdramon and Grankuwagamon. I've got a pet theory that GranKuwagamon wasn't meant to be part of the Kuwagamon family, but a more insectile dragon thing; sort of like what Paildramon and DinoBeemon are.

Of course that's all unfounded, so feel free to ignore it. I'd still kinda like to see what that insect/dragon that drew from Stingmon would've turned out like, assuming it was ever going to be a thing at all.

I don't know what the creators intended but GranKuwagamon matches the other Ultimates from 02. Paildramon isn't an insect, Valkyriemon isn't a feline, and Vikemon isn't angelic. So it makes sense that GranKuwagamon is just an insect. Wormmon can actually evolve into a fusion of a dragon and bug, but it's his evolution with the Digimental of Courage, Shadramon. His ears even look more like Veemon's line's ears instead of Wormon's line's long bug antenna ears. Veemon can evolve into HoneyBeemon too so there's actually a tiny Veemon in there somewhere, lol. I really like the 02 ultimates but I would have loved to see what the 02 ultimates would have looked like if they kept more traits from their partners.
