European Switch Version of Digimon World: Next Order Adding Japanese Audio Soon

Bandai has announced the European version of Digimon World: Next Order for Switch will get a patch to add the Japanese audio to the game.

An option many wanted, especially since the North American version of the game always had it.







The game is available digitally on Switch and Steam:

The Bandai Store is also selling physical copies, and including a beanie. It says for pre-orders, but it isn't clarified if that deal is now over.

First time hearing about the European version lacking it. Wonder why. Even in international game releases, I rarely seem to see anything outside of Japanese or English audio, so it's not like they dubbed for the numerous European languages, right?

I imagine it was the keep the file size down. They had multiple subbed languages so that's a lot of text. If you would only have one dub, English makes sense as that's what most players would use.

Wait, did the NA Switch version have Japanese audio? Because I heard conflicting reports on that back when the game released. I know the PC version did, probably because they realized someone would patch it in on their own if they didn't include that as a base option.

I wonder if that's actually the case, considering a LOT of Switch games (several of which likely have more content than next 0rder) seem to support, like, 10 different languages just fine. Then again, I guess they could opt for smaller capacity Switch cartridges to save costs.

Nevertheless, it is true that next 0rder (much like the other Digimon releases on Switch) doesn't consistently support the same languages between regions. The Japanese release only has English and Japanese, while the North American release has English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. These are likely referring to text languages, and not having the game myself yet, I can't tell which audio languages are supported (though seeing as it was always called "International Edition" in Japan, I'd imagine the Japanese version, at least, has both Japanese and English voices).

Much like how the Playstation versions of Hacker's Memory never got the Sistermons without needing a code (and outside of Japan, the entire Cyber Sleuth half of the game), Bandai Namco seems content on leaving those years-old versions behind without any further updates.

I hope they patch out a lot of the bugs and fix some of the (laughable) translation errors that plague the game in the NA version too.

It hasnt crashed on me or anything but I have had about 4 softlocks in my 100 hours of playtime due to how janky the Digifuse attack mechanic is and how it interacts with status ailments.

There really isn't that much voice acting in the game and the if we look at the PC version which has the same size and assets as the other editions we see that the Japanese audio package has a size of 141mb. That is really isn't much, accounting for only 2% of the 6,8Gb total game size.
The Switch version would not gain an advantage from leaving out these 141mb since the game fits comfortably on a 8gb switch game card with or without it, and the next step down in card size would be 4gb (on the other hand they go up to 64gb).
(as for the number of subtitles, "a lot of text" is near meaningless in terms of file size; All text assets for all 7 languages in the PS4 version of the game make take up only 8mb of space, so just a tad over 1mb per language and that is without compression.)

The voices have only been dubbed in English, But when it comes to languages I'm honestly mostly annoyed that neither next order nor CS complete or Survive offered the original Japanese text, which I guess is probably just another tactic to keep the Japanese and international market separate but looking at it very cynically you could also argue that depriving players of being able to quickly switch between the original and the translation could also make it easier to mask shoddy localizations in general.

Yes, I've noted the lack of Japanese text in the PC version before. Seems like a thing with Bandai Namco in general, as I notice it with all the Digimon games on Steam, as well as other IPs like One Piece and Dragon Ball (though oddly, there do appear to be some exceptions, like the recent One Piece Odyssey).

Though, I suspect the Noir censorship might also have something to do with the regional discrepancy in the case of Hacker's Memory.

They sure are taking their time with this patch. Is it really that hard to add a button?
