We have our first bit of early news from the new issue of V-Jump thanks to ryokutya!

A new series of Digimon V-Pets is being announced!

It appears they may not reveal the 'name' of the new V-Pet series, but looks to give it the pseudonym of 'Z'. Probably easiest to call it Digimon V-Pet Z or Series Z until we have a better idea what it is.

2 types/colors will be released.

More details to come!

The new "Z" Digimon V-Pets will be the second series of new V-Pet in recent memory after the recent Digital Monster X series (which ended with the X3 V-Pets.) The X series was the first completely new V-Pet series in a 'very' long times, so fans will be happy to see new V-Pets continue.

(The image above is just a quick silhouette we made and tossed up, it is not an image from V-Jump, and at the moment we aren't sure if they even 'show' anything of the new Digivice minus a quick announcement.)

And just to clarify, based on what little we have, this is something new and is not a rebrand of the upcoming Digivice:.

Pre-orders for that open on June 2nd. Additional Digivice: details can be found here, here, and here.

oh, that's some pretty unexpected big news. I'm wondering if it'll introduce new X evolutions or if the series will actually give us Z evolutions which I'm not sure how I'd feel about
edit: oh, I didn't know the silhouette isn't official. Now I'm excited at the possibility of a different device shape, hopefully the official release has a more impressive display!

I'm glad we're getting a new series, the end of the X3 came without an announcement for the future and we still have the Digivice: coming out so I'd assumed that would be the next only LCD Digimon product for the next little while. Glad we're still getting new stuff alongside anime tie-ins, both are good for the franchise for different reasons.

Hoping whatever new Digimon we get either ties into Death-X-Evolution or is a new (Z?) Evolution (if this is how they "X-ify" Dukemon Crimson Mode or other forms like that, I'll take it). To elaborate on the second idea, the V-pets after the Pendulum X was the Accel, so an Accel Mode (or a Z Mode or something) would be one way to return to the the Blast Mode (and later Burst Mode) concepts. Although it really is too early to speculate on that lol.

My guess is we get "z evolution"

whatever it is, I hope it has underused Digimon not in the DRB so we get some more profiles since they'll prob post pics of everyone in the Vpet on Twitter again

YES YES YES! More V-pet releases! More new Digimon! I wonder what it'll be like? Whatever it is, I hope they stick with the cute 16x16 sprites.

I'm for this if it means new Digimon, but I could really do without more antibodies, X or otherwise. I'd rather see new or underutilized Digimon get fleshed out more rather than more variants of the same Digimon over and over.

The thought of new Digimon forms excites me and while we wait for more news and can only speculate, I would absolutely love if they went for a new kind of "Z" evolution. Especially for the Digimon that did not get X forms!

This is too early to speculate but I will be very happy if they continue the story about Jesmon and Lucemon digitama as the V-Pet background story. I hope Lucemon can be born as a new digimon, a new natural carrier of x antibody digimon. So that we can get a new natural carrier after a long time.

Not a fan of Z Evolution or something like that.

YES YES YES! More V-pet releases! More new Digimon! I wonder what it'll be like? Whatever it is, I hope they stick with the cute 16x16 sprites.

I hope they add color this time. Classic 16x16 sprites with color is great.

I doubt I speak for anyone except myself, but I legitimately hope this is actually a new type of product. Between my DM20, Pendulum (my favorite v-pet until I get my Tamagotchi On), and the first 2 DM X, I'm feeling a little suckered. It's so redundant to get essentially the same play experience for what we end up paying. I didn't get the X3 partly because I was still playing with my X2 and partly because... despite all the new Digimon in the device, it just felt like an actual rehash of the first two, with most of the same characters from the first X.

I'd like a new v-pet, something a bit more expansive, not just the same gameplay loop with a couple new sprites. I feel like Tamagotchi has tried to innovate in many ways over the decades, but these devices just feel stuck in the past.

I agree. I don’t mind paying more if the product is more professionally done with some recent tech like colour display, wifi/Bluetooth for online battles etc. I think with new tech involve, the target audience will be bigger instead of nostalgic cash grab. Also enable online play allow friends to play together even when we have no time to meet, even play across different region in the world. Perhaps it’s just wishful thinking...

I'd rather not have there be 'new forms' like the X-series was. Maybe a new Digimon or two, but there's already an expansive library to choose from that haven't been explored in v-pets.

I agree with this one too...
And to add to that, I hope they do not do it like X in which they make multiple version with earlier version having less content than the later version.
However since they arguably do it too with pendulum 20th albeit not as much, I doubt they will not do it for this Z version.
I just have to make sure to buy the final version if I ever get them.

I hope it doesn't introduce some kind of z evolution. That would be too many forms. Instead I hope they reuse some old underused concept like blast/burst or death x evolution (as long as they use this last one on natural carriers of the x antibody only). Or they could just make a vanilla v pet with regular digimon and regular evolutions.

I think that a color v pet with an NFC chip that allows you to connect and use your smartphone's functionalities would be a good step forward.

I'm right there with ya. I haven't opened my X3s on account of how little time I put into the X2s. I played the X1s long enough to unlock everything.

I wish they would bring back the 32x32 sprites and bigger screens. I was really hoping a special Pendulum Progress would follow after the new Pendulums happened. Maybe I'm just overly nostalgic for the PenProgs, though, and know I'll never have an Animal Colosseum.
