It's almost time...



Digimon Thanksgiving 2018 - Special Meeting in Odaiba will be starting soon at the United Cinemas Aqua City Odaiba.

Digimon Thanksgiving 2018 is a replacement for the DigiFes event that has been held yearly since 2014.


It's currently 1:30am Pacific and it begins 2am Pacific.


While full details for the event haven't been announced, they did announce the guest lineup awhile back.

But it's finally a time for an update on 'Digimon Thanksgiving 2018 - Special Meeting in Odaiba.'
Chika Sakamoto (Agumon), Mayumi Yamguchi (Gabumon), Natsuki Hanae (Taichi), Yoshimasa Hosoya (Yamato), Ayumi Miyazaki, and AiM!

Additional guests 'may' show up unannounced.



While the live event begins at 2am Pacific, the actual livestream begins later.



The livestream begins at 3am Pacific.

The stream will be on niconico and Youtube and is scheduled to run for 3 hours and 45 minutes.


The confirmed guests for the livestream are...



Digimon game writer Koji Watanabe, who will act as MC, and Producer Habu and Producer Tsuzuki Katsuaki will also be on hand for the stream.



The stream will cover 3 parts as far as we know:
The first part will be the live event. Whether it's all or just some we don't know.
The second part will focus on Digimon games and products. There will be a formal introduction of Digimon Survive, the newest Digimon, and a staff Q&A with questions collected from fans. On top of that there will be details of the Digimon smartphone apps, along with recently announced products.
The third part will focus on the anime, but outside of saying guests from the live event will show up for a talk, they haven't given much information on this.


We'll update with details from both as we get them, with big announcements also getting their own thread.

At the end we will also do a news index for the last half week, as the amount of news has been quite high.


Thus far today we've already had a bit of news:
A BlitzGreymon figure was announced.
We've got a look at a full color prototype of the GEM figure of Angewomon Holy Arrow Version.
The Toei Museum just opened and we have a look at some of the Digimon features at it.

Update- A bit early, but...



Digimon Frontier is getting a Blu-ray box. It already has it's own thread with many more details.

Update- They're about to announce the new anime. They went thru a montage of previous anime series. Will put up captures of those when there is a free minute. The teasing heavily suggests new Adventure, should know shortly.



Update- The guests came on stage...




We got a nice big version of the Digimon Adventure 20th logo. In addition the 4 actor guests, Kenji Watanabe and Hiromi Seki joined them on stage.

This is the first time I can recall seeing Seki being on camera at an event in a very long time.



Update- At the moment they seem to be going over the scenes that were chosen by fans that they asked about a few weeks ago.


Update- The top 3 scenes chosen by fans were... (will add some of the others and clean it up later.)
3- Tai leaving Hikari in the real world episode.
2- Wizarmon dying.
1- Mimi and Palmon saying goodbye at the end of Adventure.



Update- At the moment they seem to be asking the guests various questions about Digimon memories, etc. that were gathered from audience members before the show.



Update- They've jumped back to the studio, seemingly to discuss Digimon Survive.



Update- Producer Tsuzuki Katsuaki showed up, with goggles and Agumon (who vanished previously.)





Update- They're still going over the game (and showed a trailer, which we hope to have a link to soon) but an update on the official Digimon site gives us a hint what the new anime about to announced may be...

Gameplay is being shown of Digimon Survive. Thus far it looks like a very nice, but also very basic strategy RPG. This is new for Digimon, but I hope we get some twists.



Update- The debut trailer for Digimon Survive.

Update- They're going over some of the ReArise promotions going on.



Update- After going back to video from the live event with AiM, Miyazaki, and the assembled guests singing, they're showing off the CSA Digivice 1999.



The coloring in real life looks quite great.


Updater- Victory Uchida is playing with Terriermon!




And now they're going over the new Pendulums and art book.


Update- After going thru a few other products (the gashapon, etc.) Target Nishizawa has come out with the Digivolving Spirits AtlurKabuterimon figure.

A few Dorumon's have been pulled out and Target Nishizawa and Victory Uchida are racing to transform him into Alphamon.


Update- Both of them got very frustrated during the race...

Afterwards, they pulled out Digivolving Spirits HolyAngemon in both forms, along with a prototype of him showing off the figure.


Update- They show off a great feature!

Update- They showed off a prototype of Garudamon and showed off artwork of Beelzebumon!


Updated the anime thread with the image of Taichi and Yamato at 22.


Most of the talking for a bit has just been lots of talking, hopefully a translator who sees the video can go over some of it, but at the moment they seem to be going over fan questions.

So far they're just talking about the game, ugh this may take a min or something... Never was a big fan of RPGs. Then again I'm not much of a gamer in general. Can't wait to hear about the Adventure project

Probably just spliced footage, I can't see level skipping being a featured mechanic (but who knows at this point).

Anyway, this is all rather curious; leaning into the VN aspects even moreso than Cyber Sleuth, but then SRPG battles? It's all interesting.

Glad to get a better look at the new CSA Digivice. The color isn't as overly saturated as it appears to be in promotional images, which is nice, I guess. Did they show any of its contents, or did they just show its appearance? I wish I hadn't miss that part of the stream :/

Being able to filp HolyAngemon's mask is awesome. A nice detail for an already amazing product.


EDIT: I'm taking a look at that part of the stream on Youtube. Thought I couldn't do that.

Digimon Survive looking like the sort of tone and gameplay that's my jam.
Detailed shading on the sprites aren't worth it for the lousy browser-game tween animation though.

So from th gameplay footage we've been given we can see that the VN aspect works a bit more along the lines of Danganronpa than Ace Attorney.
We now basically have confirmation in the battle gameplay that Falcomon Agumon and Labramon are player characters.
On the hud we can see under the portrait a pill icon when a character is selected, most likely indicating Vaccine, So the Vaccine Data Virus effectiveness will be a factor.
Every turn they seem to recover 25 Energy Points so we can assume it's mostly just to limit how much you can do in a couple of turns working as a sort of cooldown mechanism.
In the menu for selecting what to do aside from moving attacking, evolving and ending your turn there seems to be a partner option and a Talk option, I don't know about Partner but could talking be like in Shin Megami Tensei were you can talk demons into giving you items money or even joining you?
Also of note is that Diogimon have multiple attacks that they can do for those who were worried about that.
Evolution seem to possibly affect movement range as Falcomon could only reach 3 tiles while Metalgreymon 4. It could also differ for each Digimon.
Of course it can be assumed that this is Debug mode or something because metalGreymon at level 10 seems incredibly unlikely (Cybre Sleuth also had screenshots and dev footage that showed the player walking around with Angewomon in an eraly game dungeon)
Certain attacks like MetalGreymon's giga destroyer have range. Also we see that it doesn't do a lot so the enemies will be able to take more damage this time around and not die from a sneeze as in other recent games.

So... tempted by Survive. I think I need to see a proper bit of gameplay to decide if I want it, but I love it’s vibes.

Wow! Survive is really looking promising. I wish the developers the best of luck and success.

Darn seeing that MagnaAngemon is making me regret not voting for Ophanimon in the Gem statues. Even though Gem and Digivolving spirits aren’t the same line it would be sweet if we could get a highly detailed Ophanimon with a removable helmet. That MagnaAngemon seems to be a great figure.
