Digimon Profile #12- Armor Level & Digimentals, plus Reference Book Update

A new Digimon Profile has gone up on Digimon Web, with new artwork!

Digimon Profile #12 gives information on armor Digimon and digimentals. It uses various armor forms of V-mon as examples, while also explaining the attributes of the various digimentals.

It explains that using the digimental lets you reach an armor level via armor evolution, and how it causes less load on the Digimon. Digimentals tend to possesses elemental abilities that the armor level Digimon contain. If a Digimon is forced to use a digimental the power tends to drain away, but if they are properly compatible, the evolution will sometimes jump up to a form at the same level as an Ultimate. 11 have been discovered.



According to Agumon Hakase, it appears ancient Digimon once used digimentals to make up for them having less possibilities for evolution. That technology has been lost over time. It's possible to evolve into an armor form without a digimental, but the power of these vary, so the level of the armor form is sometimes indicated based on how much power it has.



In addition, at roughly the same time 7 Digimon were added to the reference book, separate from Digimon Profile.

This bit about compatibility intrigues me. Is this dependant on species, or is it more of an individual basis (particularly if said individual happens to strongly correspond with the virtue in question, like Courage or Love)? The idea of raising a Digimon's compatibility to make their Armor forms stronger might've made for an interesting plot point in 02, rather than just dumping them the second their natural evolutions became available (I'd like to think that this could explain why each of them weren't completely worthless in the fight against BelialVamdemon, but it was more than likely just a strength in numbers kind of deal). At any rate, I do like the implication that more Armor forms besides just Magnamon and Rapidmon are capable of being Ultimate-class.

Correct me if I'm interpreting this wrong, but is Hakase pretty much saying that Armor forms, due to their wildly fluctuating power, are only given a standard level in certain media to reflect whatever their strength happens to be comparable to at that time?

I always found this bizarre myself, but for what it's worth, they only say that it has many cute animal evolutions, not that it only has cute animal evolutions. They also acknowledge that it's a mysterious Digimental with an unknown element.

EDIT: Interesting. It seems that the Reference Book acknowledges Guardromon Gold's attribute as being Free, rather than the Unknown attribute it had when it was first introduced in -next 0rder-. I would've figured it was only given Free in Hacker's Memory because Free acted as a stand-in for Unknown in that game.

I think plotmon > maildramon is probably the one that stands out the most, though it can also be tailmon with miracles. Kongoumon would be my second guess even though it also can be miracles, this time from the same base.

Alternately I don't think Guardromon Gold ever has been an armor evolution but it would make sense?

Also awww, I've never noticed the little bit of onion sprout coming out of Papa Burgermon's head before! I'm so glad they stuck with the card design and not the boring version that showed up in Frontier.

I am so happy that the Yanmamons, Bombernanimon, and all these other old Digimon got put in, but I am especially happy that we finally have my boy Guardromon Gold in because the salt he inspired was absolutely legendary years ago and it's been a favorite of mine ever since.

They're absolutely smashing through things not in the Reference Book these days, aren't they? All the X Digimon, a bunch of old Digimon who weren't in for no reason at all, and the recolors who had no reason to not be in all are seeing their entry finally validated.

Would be randomly inconsistent to change Guardromon Gold to Armor when it wasn't Armor in its actual appearances.

Also would be weird because one of its best attributes was being an extraordinarily easy way to get both Magnamon and Rapidmon Gold in Hacker's Memory, because it could use Armor to turn into both.

Lmao Habu saying he put it in HM due to the large amount of hate it received and that it might've been one of the most hated Digimon in the franchise and so he felt bad for it and wanted to make it more unique so it'd get less hate. Since HM I've hated the Digimon less than when I learned of it in Next Order so I guess he achieved his goal. Being able to Armor evolve is pretty cool, but I wish they gave him OmniShoutmon as well.

Also, its colours are slightly different than the actual version in the games. Its missile is gold when the game one is silver, its eyes are green instead of gold, and it has silver parts instead of dark gold parts. ...weird

So Fire, Thunder, Wind, Soil (Earth), Plant, Water, Sacred (What element the Hades this supposed to be?!) and Light. I'm glad Kindness got mentioned, I was worried Adventure 2020 didn't put it there.

Some digieggs that didn't match to their elements. Sethmon, Spikmon Digiegg of Light have two MARINE ones, and Chamelemon...

Also I wanted to mention about Patamon and Armadimon's Digiegg evolution. Did anybody notice this?

Friendship. Spikmon seems to be perfect for Patamon and Stegomon for Armadimon yet it's not. Or I can say Stegomon for Wormmon and Togemogumon for Armadimon for fitting evos.

Love. Pteramon for Patamon due to their wings. Armadimon for Pipismon

Knowledge. I felt Patamon goes Searchmon more fittingly and Wormmon for Mothmon.

Purity. Armadimon and Ponchomon had friendliness aura. Patamon for Nohemon. Wormmon for Frogmon.

Hope. Armadimon and Wormon should swap their Hope evo of Sheepmon and Bullmon to each others.

Light is really weird in many ways. To be honest, it had two Marine ones and it's supposed to be all mythical beasts yet Seahomon and Manbomon are real sea creatures so what the Hades?

Kindness? Nothing to say maybe Wormmon goes Chamelemon?

Miracle. Patamon for Elephamon and Armadimon for Rhinomon...

But still Digieggs are hugely interesting when I was child and still gets fantastic.

Vmon seriously have the most digiegg evolutions that have Vmon skins... While Hawkmon seems to have agile digiegg evos yet Allomon and Moosemon are a bit confusing... Armadimon's digiegg evos tend to have tough skins or armored but few others doesn't like Chamelemon, Frogmon and Sepikmon that are odd but I think I can understand it might be Chamelemon's vanishing skin, Frogmon's slippery skin but... Sepikmon? For the giant mask to wear but it didn't use the mask to attack...

I think the third one is not Solarmon's Adult aka Guardromon (Gold).

And I think Rapidmon X cannot be counted as separate digimon in this classification.

So I hope, the third one will be another digimon.

I actually like Guardromon Gold, though I do wish it either had a unique name (Goldromon) or that it’s lore as that it’s the original Vaccine version of Guardromon before it was hacked.

The lore around the Gold mines is really underwhelming given that the same mines gave Numemon wings.

I’d totally love the next Digimon Story to be full of subspecies.

Come to think of it, this is the first time that the gold Guardromon ever received artwork, isn't it? Granted, they simply recolored the regular Guardromon art, but with that being the case, I wonder if a profile for Red V-dramon might be on the horizon (another recolor that was given some spotlight in -next 0rder-).

Not too often I see someone actually wanting more recolors. Seriously though, I do find the hate that they tend to get is way over-blown.

Yeah, I wish they could've better explained the difference between Hope and Light's elements (if there are any). Also would've liked them to touch on Light's bizarre inclusion of a second set aquatic Digimon with the Ver.3 pair.

Friendship also couldn’t decide between ice, electricity, and whatever you want to call Stegomon and Sepikmon. It’s probably the least consistent Digimental.

I’m honestly surprised they didn’t say the attribute of Kindness is “Love”/“Heart”/“Beauty” given that might be easier to understand and quantify than “Sacred”.

I’ve always just figured that Seahomon and Mambomom were leftover Faith designs they didn’t want to give up on.

Different context. We don't know if Sistermon Ciel was planned for later, and Citramon has been out of sight for a very, very long time and personally produced by one of the American studio guys. Hoping for Citramon is pretty much a lost cause.
