Digimon in October V-Jump- 02: The Beginning, Ghost Game, Survive, Booster Set 11, Vital Bracelet, & More!

It's time for all the new Digimon content from the October 2022 cover dated issue of V-Jump!

We start off with Digimon Adveneture 02: The Beginning. This is going over the various stuff announced a little under a month ago, showing off the new character art, etc. At the end there is a small section detailing the adventures of Daisuke thus far from 02 and Kizuna.

Under that we get a few sections for special events:
The Ghost Game and Frontier stuff at AniBirth
The 02 event at Karatez Karaoke.

Then in the odds and ends spread we get an interview with Yumiko Kobayashi regarding Espimon in Ghost Game. If there is time later we'll go over it in more detail.

On top of that, there is also a Survive page focusing on the villains.

Then we get a spread for Booster Set 11.

We saw this previously, and most of it we've since gotten very clean previews of. The main focus of the spread is a number of cards that will enhance Xros Wars related decks, although it also details things like Re:Digitize, some events, and some extra things.

Booster Set 11 Dimensional Phase is out September 30th, 2022.

And we finish with a Vital Bracelet spread.

The first page shows off ShinMonzaemon, coming with the Dim Card included in the 25th Anniversary Digimon Vital Bracelet BE set.

Then the last page features showing off the Espimon & Ryudamon Dim Cards, which recently came out, and both characters have made initial appearances in Ghost Game tied to that release.



The new issue is mostly catch up, going over a lot of things that have come up lately, but they stuffed a lot in this time.

A bit late to update on the villains in Survive since I already know who the cloak figure is.

It’s Piedmon.

Since we got Ryudamon, Espimon, and Zubamon already in the anime all that’s left is Ludomon and could imagine if Xross Wars and Re: Digitize had a crossover if the game ever get a remaster.

Wow, they're once again pushing Duskmon over Lowemon (I do prefer Duskmon, honestly).

I saw that page with 02 characters, and my immediate thought was that Tailmon's tail was hidden behind Hikari so we won't know if she loses her Holy Ring again or not (which would act as a 02 throwback). But no, that artwork existed in the previous artwork thread and Tailmon still very much has her ring. Shame, I'm still kinda hoping they'll add "Tailmon (Child)" or "Tailmon (Ring Nashi)" or whatever to the Reference Book.

The cloaked dude in Survive was the most pointless hidden character of all time as his minions knew who he was saying his name before they showed who he was, the main characters never see him in his cloak, and he was only shown in it once as the second time you see him he's not wearing it any more. Not really sure why they bothered with that...

I don't think it's needed.

I see the ability to transform into a Human World appearance is like the ability to have different sizes, or the ability to evolve itself in Digimon.

Piemon in Adventure, Mummymon and Archnemon in Adventure 02, Mephismon in Tamers, ALL protagonists in Xros Wars manga, Alphamon in Cyber Sleuth, Vamdemon and Sangloupmon in Ghost Game, and others.

So if someday they want to make a Human World appearance of Omegamon or Examon, they can just do it.

Anyway, I like the possibility of this human world appearance transformation. Let's say, we might someday see WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon in their human world forms. Or Mugendramon disgusing as a guy with techwear fashion.

She also possesses some supernatural abilities even in her human form (namely the life-granting hairs and the insect-controlling flute), and Mummymon still has a monstrous appearance in his human form. Also, for whatever it's worth, they did make a small background cameo in Frontier. Overall, despite being human disguises, they still give a sense of being Digimon in their own right (and after stuff like Luminamon Nene Ver., I could see them being among the more out-there potential Reference Book updates).

Anyway, while I have yet to get around to Survive myself, seeing cloaked Piemon here sorta gives me some cloaked Demon vibes. Granted, cloaked Demon has yet to get a profile itself, though some media does treat it as a variant form/mode.

EDIT: Oh wow. I just noticed that "the hooded monster" is voiced by 大塚明夫 Akio Ohtsuka, son of the late Chikao Ohtsuka (who voiced Piemon in Adventure). And for anyone curious, yes, Archnemon is once again reprised by Wakana Yamazaki.

I see them like I see Jellymon full body mode and the only head mode. It's nothing different.
Some digimon always have something being mentioned in their profiles and some others don't. Not just Archnemon in Adventure 02, many digimon in Ghost Game have additional abilities so far they only can do in Ghost Game and the abilities we're not in their profiles.

The same goes to Piemon. The profile mentioned about their true forms are not totally understood. Which is I think it's Piemon's ability to shapeshift himself, because Piemon basically is a digimon version of IT (Stephen King). So if Piemon gets another new form of disguise in the future, they don't have to add another profile just for that specific form.

We could. But my point is this ability of transforming into Human World Appearance is another ability digimon could have. We could have other digimon with this ability later in the future without them being added in reference book as another species of digimon just because they have different look. Just like the ones we already have from Adv, Adv 02, Tamers, XW, GG, and in some games.

Well, whatever. I just think that Archnemon and Mummymon humans (and "the hooded monster") have some very distinct appearances that, despite the very purpose of their disguises, still make them feel as if they lean more towards monster design rather than towards human design the way, say, Mephismon/Tamashiro does. The Reference Book has had some pretty wild updates before, so I could see them as a possibility, but it's also very likely that it won't happen. We'll just have to see.

To be fair, we can say that about Mummymon's, but Archnemon's Human form designs (so far) are so human.

It would also be limiting to force all future Arukenimon appearances to follow the reference book. Like that other guy said each time she has a human form they do like different to each other.

Oh wait, I see. She has a very different human appearance in Survive now. I thought the argument was being made that she had a different human form in Ghost Game. Still, as I said, I thought her classic 02 design still was capable of supernatural abilities in that form, and I'd say that her sunglasses do sorta act as the face-covering that's been so prevelent in humanistic Digimon designs (and it's not as if there aren't a good number of Digimon that just look like a woman doing cosplay), which is why I'd argue that Mummymon's not the only one with a Digimon-ish appearance (even if Mummymon's more blatant). Seems a bit wierd that they went with something so different for Survive while Ghost Game reused the old design, though (granted, it's not like they intended these two things to release close to eachother, given Survive's infamous delay).
