Oddly not the most unusual thing to have been seen floating down the Thames.
KoKabuterimon finally makes its onscreen debut in a less than flattering manner, as Ghost Game sets something of a new record for the amount of time it's taken for the protagonists to get to the Digital World.
And it turns out Team Lirurun could have gone there much-much earlier. The late Professor Bokomon has been telling us porkies.
Compared to Gammamon, Hiro and Hokuto's reunion is about as emotional as you were expecting it to be. For a long time now I've been wondering if this nonchalance had some actual backstory to it, or that there would be some dark unexpected revelation that Hiro wasn't simply just an average human child.
It appears that wasn't the case. Of course who knows what this show will pull at the very last minute, but with only two episodes left to go there's already a lot of unanswered stuff to cram in as it is. It's evident by this point that the Digimon are who we are supposed to connect with the most. A similar though more obvious problem 2020 had during its run.
Kuzuhamon (quite a few old and familiar faces popping up throughout this) provides some assistance in creating a brief opening to the Compiler Forest. Unsurprisingly it doesn't take long for something bad to happen to Kiyoshiro, and in turn everyone else.
Much like Dagomon, the encounter with Rafflesimon here feels more like something designed to fill in time (that we can't exactly spare), but does at least allow Gulus the opportunity to tempt Siriusmon with power, which is used to deadly effect. Apparently he's finally cut his losses with trying to get Hiro to sync with him after failing an entire series to do so.
It is perhaps unfortunate that the show does still give off an impression of being coaxed reluctantly towards a finale rather than shifting up gears. And with our seemingly penultimate boss set up for the start of the next episode with an extended waiting time in between, there's dauntingly high expectations which I'm not that entirely optimistic about them meeting.
