Ah, a waterfront town with boats. Nothing bad would ever happen here.

Things begin to spin and twist into spirals as something just repeats 'gyurururu' as it happens.

And Hiro lost his homework on a damaged tablet, with bite marks, which Gammamon claims wasn't him. Hiro gets his teeth to match by mentioning chocolate.

Gammamon being a little brat. And Espimon appears knocking on the window. He returns the student ID, which Hiro believes he has lost.

Espimon has an arm all bent up. Gammamon is continuing to be a brat. He mentions trying to find the 'real' Hiro.

Despite not believing he's Hiro, he wants his help to return his arm. Jellymon has invited herself to go, as it could be a vacation. Kiyoshiro refuses as he's busy. Ruli declines as she's busy with summer school.

Jellymon is still going even without Kiyoshiro.

As they ride the train, we get some clarification on why Espimon things he isn't Hiro. Hokuto said Hiro was his splitting image, and Espimon doesn't believe he looks enough like Hiro to count. (If this is the end of it this is the most boring solution that the question.)

Gammamon declines chocolate as he wants to continue being a brat. Jellymon says he's in his rebellious phase.

They find more things spiraled. Jellymon is collecting pine cones and laughing to herself. Gammamon floats off and is found by a girl and her dog. He begins to scream he's a hologram.

The girl is looking for 'bendy things', like the water spout, or her bendy hair. She says her hair should be straight, but it won't go back to normal. Her parents think it's bedhead, but she thinks something is up.

Gammamon keeps doing the 'HMM' and head turn. He goes off with Rin and her dog to find bendy things. Espimon goes off with Hiro.

The bendy things don't have the structural stability they should, making Hiro muse on how much of a problem this could be.

Jellymon hasn't heard of a Digimon who does this. Espimon notes what happened to his arm happened at night.

Rin is curious why Gammamon is fighting with Hiro, he denies it. Rin points out they should make up. Gammamon is clearly upset about something, but she's gonna play a game with Gammamon.

It's revealed her tablet has bite marks on it, the dog tries to apologize as best it could.

Jellymon fits perfectly in some bent pots, she is happy about this, and falls asleep.

Water shoots up and we get a shadowy Calamaramon who shoots out waves causing this.

Jellymon returns to Hiro in the morning quite upset at her being all bent. She points out she isn't in pain... it's just sort of gross looking. Espimon points out many animals all twisted also, and we see it in the scenery also.

Calamaramon floats over some divers and sends out more waves.

Jellymon and Espimon get more twisted, and we see some things break from it. Espimon wonders why Hiro isn't bending.

Rin is all bent into giant twists now, as is her family.

Hiro activates a digital space to help protect things, but anything that's been twisted is shunted into the space also. Rin freaks out as her dog is missing, but Gammamon points out to her Hiro protected it.

Gammamon points out Hiro will fix everything, and begins to feel bad about how he's been acting. He flashes back to how he's acted, what Rin says, and consoles Rin saying he will apologize and go help Hiro save her.

Hiro somehow activates Bibi Thunder on Jellymon against Calamaramon. Espimon also attacks.

Gyurururu.

Gammamon rushes in screaming for Hiro, trips on the sand. He admits he broke the tablet and apologizes leaping to hug Hiro while crying and apologizing more. As you'd expect Hiro accepts it and pats Gammamon on the head.

Kaus time. He goes flying in as Calamaramon creates water spirals to attack. He dives through one of them and evolves to Canoweissmon.

And we get Canoweissmon using Dragonia going face to face as Calamaramon turns into a giant drill, both bashing back and forth. Dragonia hits her so hard all her body straightens out and Canoweissmon attacks again bashing her right into the water. The energy attacks are straight instead of spiral, and she notes how pretty they are.

Canoweissmon's evolution breaks and back to Kaus as everything returns to normal.

Calamaramon was returning them back as she admits spirals are nice, but striaght lines are good also, all shapes are beautiful, and she's going to go discover more of them.

Hiro reminds her to now twist things. Hiro wonders if the gate to the real world is so 'twisty' to cause that, Jellymon isn't sure. Hiro flashes back to Bokomon talking about the gate.

Espimon leaves to find the real Hiro once again.

Gammamon goes back to make sure Rin and her family are ok.

Everyone goes home. Hiro is tired. Him and Gammamon find a visitor in their room... Espimon, eating rice crackers, who wonders why they took so long.

Hiro's Study Files this time is... Calamaramon.

The episode had good character stuff, but the story kind of went nowhere though, and if that's the end of the Espimon/Hiro mystery it's disappointing that it was ever mentioned as something to consider. Calamaramon was humorous though, even if nothing with her went anywhere (except a bit more mystery to Digimon being dragged to the real world.) And another one where much of the cast wanders off to other stuff. It was a fun enough 20ish minutes, but it dragged.

Kaori Nazuka was Calamaramon in her first Digimon appearance. Another VA with an insane number of roles including... Nunnally in Code Geass, Eureka in Eureka 7, Kyoko in Pretty Cute Max Heart, Kiyoko in Haikyu, Tooru & Mt. Lady in My Hero Academia, and the list just goes on forever.

Shino Shimoji played Rin in the episode. She was previously Floramon in Digimon Survive. As for her large list of roles... she plays Akari in Aikatsu, Mythra & Pyra in the Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and plenty more.

Well, it took until Episode 40 for it to happen, but we've finally reached an episode that I'm largely lukewarm towards; there were things in it that I liked (the body-horror from things progressively twisting was decent, it was nice to finally have another instance of a partner Digimon using attacks with a different human (as far as I remember, that hasn't happened since the concept first appeared in the Frozomon episode), and I'll definitely say that I wasn't expecting Calmarimon as the Digimon of the Week; that was pretty neat!

But other than those things, a lot of this episode was just okay; Espimon's return was just okay, Gammamon's conflict was just okay (especially since it's made clear early on that he was the one who broke the tablet, thus not making him all that sympathetic to me), the little girl and her dog were both just okay, and even the central conflict of things getting twisted was just okay; outside the general body-horror, there didn't seem to be huge drawbacks to the living creatures affected (at worst, it just seemed more of an annoyance than anything), so it didn't feel like the stakes were all that big compared to the previous two episodes.

So yeah, this is the first episode I'd call just okay.

Thankfully, based on the preview, next week's episode looks like it's going to be a lot more interesting!

I love how the story becoming more interesting since they announced the latest poster with "the mystery accelerates" line.
At this point I'm sure we will get the Digital World Journey arc.

Seeing Hiro bringing Gammamon, Jellymon, and Espimon to the beach reminds me of Digimon World 3. One tamer three partners.

Speaking of three. Now Jellymon is the only digimon who has three human tamers to command her. And Gammamon is the only digimon who has three "stable" Adult forms. I wonder if Angoramon will also have the three thingy.

Calamarimon was a surprise, it was fun seeing Espimon appear again.

Calmarimon technically from Frontier but she’s was also in Adventure 2020, what’s next Velgremon, Neodevimon, Gogmamon, Entmon, Machmon, Rebellimon, Gusokumon, Argomon, or maybe Pomumon, Funbeemon, and Cannonbeemon.

I'm surprised Calamarimon actually was the responsible for all twistings. I seriously assumed it was Shellmon because.. Well the hermit crabs have twists on its bottom bodies... Well you know?

Oh damn this episode is totally HORROR. Those poor animals! And humans... Too scared to see them going twist in the process was very horror!

Surprised Calamarimon didn't get killed. I wonder why Archnemon only got killed every time...

Good to see Gigasmon and Calamarimon being good people.

To be fair, Arukenimon straight up consumed people while Calmaramon just did Uzumaki nonsense but didn't actually hurt anyone if Jellymon's remark is any indication let alone kill anyone.

Arukenimon bit two people's heads off and she went up against GulusGammamon.

I really enjoyed this episode. It was lots of fun. Great animation and some nice character interactions.

Nerfed? She's about the same strength she's always been. Hell, she's more impressive here than she ever was in Frontier.

Somebody in the writing room must have been a big Uzumaki fan.

I know it's probably low-key horrible, but animals getting swirled out of proportion was kinda funny to me and the moment they showed the little girl bouncing around wildly I lost it a bit. Sorry, Long Ring Long Land in One Piece ruined me.

Overall a good episode. The Hiro/Gammamon bonding was a nice character moment. I just wish there was more continuity and planning to it - as in Hiro's and Gammamon's bond growing visibly stronger over time and Gammamon slightly maturing from his toddler-like personality bit by bit. Him learning to say sorry and that missteps like that happen feels like it should be part of his champion-level "education" already with his ultimate level "education involving slightly more mature character growth themes and building strenght. Dunno, that's atleast how I would work it out as a writer for the show. But obviously a lot of Ghost Game episodes are written ad-hoc to some degree.

Oh well, I did pretty much predict the "not the real Hiro Amanokawa" would just turn out to mean he doesn't look like his dad to Espimon.

Nice episode! I am glad they didn't forget about the partner switch after all, and the plot and fight was satisfying enough. Though Espimon's "not the real Hiro" thing is disappointing if it's really just because he misunderstood Hokuto.

Negative.Beast Spirits are officially documented by Hyper Colosseum Booster 15 to posses power surpassing Ultimates(as in Megas in English) and by Digimon Visual Dictionary to posses the power and ferociousness of the Ancient Warrior 10. And unless you wanna tell me that each Warrior Ten is Perfect Lvl when they are officially documented to posses power surpassing present day Ultimates and in ReArise mere shadows of Ancient Greymon and Ancient Garurumon that possesed little power saved Dynasmon,Lordknightmon and Mastemon from a beam blast from Lucemon Child that would have killed them and weakened Milleniumon enough for Mastemon to send him back through the gate Lucemon summoned him through task that Dynasmon said that would require the power of one more Royal Knight besides them i don't know what to make of it.Human Spirits alone have been shown on screen owning Perfects and even Ultimates.
Agnimon easily beat Cerberumon and one shot Ice Leomon and Parrotmon. He even went on to one shot Ultimate Level Murmukusmon. Wolfmon one shot a Megadramon in the crossover with V-Tamers. Agnimon and Wolfmom have a combined attack called Shining Burning Slash wich is comparable in power with Trinity Burst wich takes 3 Perfects, Megalogrowmon(who is officially documented to posses power equal and even surpassing an Ultimate),Taomon and Rapidmon. An attack used to kill Gulfmon a Digimon that can destroy the world in 7 days and whose Perfect form,Mephismon casually created a dimension based on the destruction of humanity.
Blitzmon beat Cherrymon and Volcamon. So its obvious that the Human Hybrids alone are above Perfects and can even kill Ultimates via the analog human potential. Wich makes the Beast Spirits like Calmaramon and Gigasmon loosing to Cannoweissmon complete nonsense. It's just plot armor to save the ass of literally the weakest Digimon team until now only 2nd weakest to the Appmon team.
Long story short: Both Gigasmon and Calmaramon should have wiped the floor with these weaklings even if they had Ultimates at this point.

Digimon 101: a power in one medium ideally cannot be compared to another medium. You can't just take HC and then move to Frontier then to ReArise then to Tamers.
Even some digimon can grow in terms of power in one medium and beat the hard to beat digimon they've met before.

It was a nice episode.
This Calmaramon episode was better than the one from Adventure Reboot.

At least, this Calmaramon episode wasn't fanservice with Jellymon.
Anyone remember how she was treated in Frontier?

So Fake Hiro is just Espimon's misunderstanding huh? Can't say I didn't expect it, but still disappointed. At least they didn't drag this plot point.
Calamarimon though is unexpected to be the villain of the week.
While the concept of being bend until you snap was decent for the horror premise... the fact that they're already so bend and bouncy kinda take it away. How much more can they bend before they snap lol
At least now we finally get another instance of a digimon given command not by their trainer! Finally! Still goes unaddressed, but at least now there's more hope that it will be discussed what's the meaning of it.

Gammamon and Hiro's fight is also cute but a bit rushed. Would've been better if it's not been so obvious that it was Gammamon or it was Hiro that do the silent treatment. That Gammamon was the one pouting over it doesn't really make sense.

It's really fun how they made Calmaramon a prettier version of the one in Frontier.

Now she doesn't need the purified version anymore.

She looks like a woman dancing in the ballroom. They make the bottom like a dance dress, the red color looks very beautiful.

I also love the jewel in her head.

Now she fit better for Jellymon and AncientMermaimon.

Adventure 2020 and new card game make Petaldramon better version. Now Ghost game make Calmaramon better version. I also love Ranamon new century art colors.

Negative.Beast Spirits are officially documented by Hyper Colosseum Booster 15 to posses power surpassing Ultimates(as in Megas in English) and by Digimon Visual Dictionary to posses the power and ferociousness of the Ancient Warrior 10.
They possess their power int he sense that all Hybrids do, but clearly not all of it (nice semantic trick though). But naturally you argument, despite bringing up the card game, completely ignores the fact that all of teh ancient warriors do have cards, and what do you know, they are stronger than their beast spirits.
It also ignores that ignoring "all the might" of the Warrior Ten is the whole point of the Fusion Spirits. Unless you want to claim that Fusion Spirits are superflous and come with Zero increase in phyiscal power, which would be nonsense according to the cards as well.

He even went on to one shot Ultimate Level Murmukusmon
He did not. At that point Murmuxmon had already been blasted for over a minute and from all direction by attacks from the entire Frontier cast and an entire battalion of giant tanks, not exactly a 1v1 scenario.
If that is your definition of "one shot" then literally all fights end with "one shots" that just happen to occur after loads of other attacks.

And unless you wanna tell me that each Warrior Ten is Perfect Lvl when they are officially documented to posses power surpassing present day Ultimates and in ReArise mere shadows of Ancient Greymon and Ancient Garurumon that possesed little power saved Dynasmon,Lordknightmon and Mastemon from a beam blast from Lucemon Child that would have killed them and weakened Milleniumon enough for Mastemon to send him back through the gate Lucemon summoned him through task that Dynasmon said that would require the power of one more Royal Knight
If you are implying that the Ancient Warriors are as strong as (or even stronger than) the Royal Knights and the beast spirits should be as strong as Royal Knights because they possess "all" their power, then there might be a slight inconsistency in your reasoning considering LordKnightmon casually stomped four of them at once.

It's just plot armor to save the ass of literally the weakest Digimon team until now only 2nd weakest to the Appmon team.
Looks like someone missed that the Appmon card game "officially documented" that Ultimate level Appmon are already as strong as Ultimate level Digimon.

Digimon's power levels are always all over the place. Armor level were essentially inferior champions in 02 despite being supposed to be perfect level. And Canoweissmon's description has him being able to hurt Megas.

Not to mention Fairimon literally lost to Woodmon on her debut episode in Frontier. Consistency in power level across different series (or sometimes in the same exact series) is just not Digimon's thing.
