Ah, a waterfront town with boats. Nothing bad would ever happen here.
Things begin to spin and twist into spirals as something just repeats 'gyurururu' as it happens.
And Hiro lost his homework on a damaged tablet, with bite marks, which Gammamon claims wasn't him. Hiro gets his teeth to match by mentioning chocolate.
Gammamon being a little brat. And Espimon appears knocking on the window. He returns the student ID, which Hiro believes he has lost.
Espimon has an arm all bent up. Gammamon is continuing to be a brat. He mentions trying to find the 'real' Hiro.
Despite not believing he's Hiro, he wants his help to return his arm. Jellymon has invited herself to go, as it could be a vacation. Kiyoshiro refuses as he's busy. Ruli declines as she's busy with summer school.
Jellymon is still going even without Kiyoshiro.
As they ride the train, we get some clarification on why Espimon things he isn't Hiro. Hokuto said Hiro was his splitting image, and Espimon doesn't believe he looks enough like Hiro to count. (If this is the end of it this is the most boring solution that the question.)
Gammamon declines chocolate as he wants to continue being a brat. Jellymon says he's in his rebellious phase.
They find more things spiraled. Jellymon is collecting pine cones and laughing to herself. Gammamon floats off and is found by a girl and her dog. He begins to scream he's a hologram.
The girl is looking for 'bendy things', like the water spout, or her bendy hair. She says her hair should be straight, but it won't go back to normal. Her parents think it's bedhead, but she thinks something is up.
Gammamon keeps doing the 'HMM' and head turn. He goes off with Rin and her dog to find bendy things. Espimon goes off with Hiro.
The bendy things don't have the structural stability they should, making Hiro muse on how much of a problem this could be.
Jellymon hasn't heard of a Digimon who does this. Espimon notes what happened to his arm happened at night.
Rin is curious why Gammamon is fighting with Hiro, he denies it. Rin points out they should make up. Gammamon is clearly upset about something, but she's gonna play a game with Gammamon.
It's revealed her tablet has bite marks on it, the dog tries to apologize as best it could.
Jellymon fits perfectly in some bent pots, she is happy about this, and falls asleep.
Water shoots up and we get a shadowy Calamaramon who shoots out waves causing this.
Jellymon returns to Hiro in the morning quite upset at her being all bent. She points out she isn't in pain... it's just sort of gross looking. Espimon points out many animals all twisted also, and we see it in the scenery also.
Calamaramon floats over some divers and sends out more waves.
Jellymon and Espimon get more twisted, and we see some things break from it. Espimon wonders why Hiro isn't bending.
Rin is all bent into giant twists now, as is her family.
Hiro activates a digital space to help protect things, but anything that's been twisted is shunted into the space also. Rin freaks out as her dog is missing, but Gammamon points out to her Hiro protected it.
Gammamon points out Hiro will fix everything, and begins to feel bad about how he's been acting. He flashes back to how he's acted, what Rin says, and consoles Rin saying he will apologize and go help Hiro save her.
Hiro somehow activates Bibi Thunder on Jellymon against Calamaramon. Espimon also attacks.
Gyurururu.
Gammamon rushes in screaming for Hiro, trips on the sand. He admits he broke the tablet and apologizes leaping to hug Hiro while crying and apologizing more. As you'd expect Hiro accepts it and pats Gammamon on the head.
Kaus time. He goes flying in as Calamaramon creates water spirals to attack. He dives through one of them and evolves to Canoweissmon.
And we get Canoweissmon using Dragonia going face to face as Calamaramon turns into a giant drill, both bashing back and forth. Dragonia hits her so hard all her body straightens out and Canoweissmon attacks again bashing her right into the water. The energy attacks are straight instead of spiral, and she notes how pretty they are.
Canoweissmon's evolution breaks and back to Kaus as everything returns to normal.
Calamaramon was returning them back as she admits spirals are nice, but striaght lines are good also, all shapes are beautiful, and she's going to go discover more of them.
Hiro reminds her to now twist things. Hiro wonders if the gate to the real world is so 'twisty' to cause that, Jellymon isn't sure. Hiro flashes back to Bokomon talking about the gate.
Espimon leaves to find the real Hiro once again.
Gammamon goes back to make sure Rin and her family are ok.
Everyone goes home. Hiro is tired. Him and Gammamon find a visitor in their room... Espimon, eating rice crackers, who wonders why they took so long.
Hiro's Study Files this time is... Calamaramon.
The episode had good character stuff, but the story kind of went nowhere though, and if that's the end of the Espimon/Hiro mystery it's disappointing that it was ever mentioned as something to consider. Calamaramon was humorous though, even if nothing with her went anywhere (except a bit more mystery to Digimon being dragged to the real world.) And another one where much of the cast wanders off to other stuff. It was a fun enough 20ish minutes, but it dragged.
Kaori Nazuka was Calamaramon in her first Digimon appearance. Another VA with an insane number of roles including... Nunnally in Code Geass, Eureka in Eureka 7, Kyoko in Pretty Cute Max Heart, Kiyoko in Haikyu, Tooru & Mt. Lady in My Hero Academia, and the list just goes on forever.
Shino Shimoji played Rin in the episode. She was previously Floramon in Digimon Survive. As for her large list of roles... she plays Akari in Aikatsu, Mythra & Pyra in the Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and plenty more.
