Old man walking home after work, and here's Doumon, and some green guys.

Ane he flattens him into paper, literally.

Hiro and Kotaro at their sister school's festival, which is a girls school.

They talk about the dancing, Gammamon notes he can dance. The girls are enthralled by Gammamon. Hiro is bothered that he has to play an actual role in their play.

An important one, since someone got sick.

Doumon getting up to shenanigans again. And digital corruption all around.

Hiro is not the Human Torch, and if lit on fire, will vanish. The audience applauds confused at what's going on.

A shadowy figure doesn't like what he's seeing.

Hiro is teleported into a room, and Doumon slaps a seal on him. Hiro has yellow eyes now, and Doumon treats him as his lord. Hiro believes he's the lord, and Doumon seems to be playing out 'real' events following up the play.

Espimon reveals himself to Gammamon. Espimon doesn't seem quite as enthralled with Gammamon's cuteness.

It isn't clear if Hiro is hypnotized or possessed at this point.

Doumon casts the paper spell on a girl they nabbed and we can see a large wall floating in the air of this paper army. And other seals become the green guys.

Green charms, spirit creatures Doumon controls. Red charms, people they capture to make their army.

Espimon seems convinced that the person who vanished on stage wasn't Hiro. Gamammon jumps in to save people, Espimon jumps in to save Gammamon.

Gammamon seems impressed Espimon can fly. Espimon says he's heading off. Gammamon looks at him with shiny eyes for helps. Espimon says those eyes are unfair, you can't say no to them. He asks what Gammamon's plan is.

More people getting turned into red charms. Not the 100k Doumon needs though, not yet.

Hiro's face and voice shift into something more akin to the lord. Very lizardy.

Gammamon calls Ruli to come there and help. Espimon demands the phone.

Ruli and Angoramon are going, but they both comment it's quite far.

Espimon running is an interesting look. He's more wobbling back and forth. Espimon grabs him so they can fly off faster.

Angoramon calls his good friend Airdramon, Ruli, Kiyoshiro, and them will ride him to where Hiro is to go quickly.

Clockmon introduced him to Angoramon.

Airdramon comments he should be worshiped. Jellymon comments he looks like an advertising thing.

Doumon trying to tell his lord the plan, and Gammamon and Espimon zoom in.

Doumon refers to the others as shikigami.

Gammamon isn't happy talking to 'Hiro' who doesn't recognize him, but Espimon has noticed something it appears.

Espimon points out Hiro is being controlled and to grab the talismans on him. Gammamon likes this idea when it's explained to him that grabbing it should turn Hiro back.

Nabs it with his teeth jumping past and we get an exorcism ghost energy zooming out.

Not sure if it went into Doumon, or if he just got an infusion of energy with the lord being boomed away.

Hey look, Wezen. Espimon is surprised Gammamon can evolve. Espimon manipulates enemies into heading into Wezen's blast path.

Canoweissmon time. Espimon just commenting is Gammamon for real evolving again was amusing. Doumon doesn't like any of this then gets a blast in the face.

Multiple spirits leave Doumon and vanish, claiming they will be back again.

Cano turns back to Gammamon, surprising Espimon again.

Doumon doesn't know why he is there, or any memory of what has happened. The last thing he remembers was trying to learn the human worlds divine arts, and spirits possessed him.

Espimon says he doesn't overly care, but he needs to turn everyone back to normal.

Doumon thanks them for freeing him. Doumon will return to studying and says goodbye. Hiro comments that seems dangerous.

Gammamon introduces Espimon to Hiro properly. Espimon asks Hiro if he knows Hiro. He's apparently looking for Hiro, but says he doesn't look like the Hiro he's looking for.

Airdramon brings the other, Angoramon is puffy. Ruli and Airdramon apparently get along very well.

They turn around and Espimon is gone. He's sitting on a tree holding Hiro's school ID and notes that Gammamon is pretty amazing.

Hiro's Study File features Doumon. This has no more Ruli and Angoramon than the episode itself.

Another episode that falls into doesn't do anything that wild, but good enough. Espimon is interesting, and a new ongoing plot thread that'll be interesting to see how it goes. Would like to see a bit more energy from him though, he seemed oddly calm.

Hikaru Midorikawa played Doumon. He first appeared in Digimon in Frontier, playing an Angemon in Frontier & Hippogriffomon in the Frontier movie. He was also Splashmon in Xros Wars, and is Wu Hai, one of the friends of the main characters in New Century, partened with a Lopmon. Outside of Digimon he's well known in a number of roles like Softon in Bobobo, Tenshinhan, Android 16 & more in Dragon Ball, Heero Yuy in Gundam Wing, Best Jeanist in My Hero Academia, Zelgadiss in Slayers, among many many more.

Ryotaro Okiayu played Airdramon. Well known to Digimon fans, he was RhodoKnightmon in Frontier and X-Evo, Grademon in Xros Wars, and has been Devimon in Adventure since the PSP game, including in Adventure: & New Century. He was also Phelesmon earlier in Ghsot Game.

Ikuya Sawaki played the spirit/ghost/lord thing. This is his first time in Digimon, but has a large stack of roles, probably best known as Fujitora in One Piece. He's also been the dub voice for a number of characters in imported content like Leland Palmer in Twin Peaks, the Scotsman in Samurai Jack, and Fortress Maximus in Transformers.

This Espimon seems less annoying than the other variant in manga... so far.

Anyway, from this episode when Espimon mentioned about it, we might still need weeks or months to see HoverEspimon.
If he needs human partner, Hiro's friend is the one I can think.

And if Ryudamon later can evolve to the Ultimate form. I wonder what's his purpose. Let's say Ouryumon will become a sword to Gammamon's Ultimate form, I hope it will a new form of sword, not the same Ouryuken of Alphamon.

Seeing Doumon get possessed makes me wonder if the big bad of the series is ghostly or maybe even metaphysical, rather than a digimon, human, or digital lifeform.

I'm intrigued about Espimon's comments that Gammamon's Hiro doesn't look like the Hiro he's looking for which reminds me of the Piccolomon episode and the comments about Gammamon in the future so I wonder if they'll actually address that sometime. I really liked this episode and it's traditional atmosphere and Doumon made a great antagonist and I like these episodes where Hiro is a damsel in distress and Gammamon has to save him by himself.

I'm 90% convinced it's a "Hiro isn't in the same clothes as on the ID" gag, but Espimon seems to not be a moron, so who knows.

So it turned out as Doumon got possessed by the human servant who served the lord and I seriously thought Doumon might be that Youkomon who appeared at the shrine sleeping. I guess not.

I totally didn't expect Airdramon's appearance! And they drew him so terrible...

It's still hard to get used to Espimon but Espimon is surely good at stealing without anybody noticing.

I wonder if Clockmon is clearly doing the working of "Beat bad guys and befriend!" off-screen? Clockmon is being treated like... The "Cleaner".

Doumon folded that lady like this was Suspiria (2018) lol.

Anyway, finally some new developments that might have influence on the course the overall story goes.

I guess the obvious direction for Espimon right now is that he is Hiro's dad's partner or another of those dim card Digimon. I assume the "You don't look like him"-line should be referencing his father... or we might be facing a parallel Hiro soon, but with all to go off from to make this statement this is still fan fiction territory.

Also, another villain promising revenge. Considering the mysteriousness of the one this time around, we might have received the first glimpse of a big bad digimon. Doumon's explanation at the end also seems insufficient to just let it at that.

I believe he is comparing him to his father: "No. You're not Hiro Amanakawa. You don't look alike.". Espimon likely did not know what Hiro is supposed to look like prior to talking to him. He does hold his ID at the end, but the ID was likely acquired when him and Gammamon were looking for him in the dressing room - Espimon was holding Hiro's shirt in the scene. It's possible he was checking the ID at the end to confirm he was looking at the right guy. But I might be wrong.

It was an OK episode, Espimon's introduction probably will spice things up. I wonder why he's looking for Hiro and why our Hiro isn't the Hiro he's looking for. I hope it's not played for a joke, because it's really interesting. I also liked Espimon's depiction, I assumed he would be loud and annoying but he's calm and dependable, fitting for a spy.
So... Did Wezengammamon just kill some people?
I assume not, because the green shikigami and the red ones were different and WezenGammamon only shot the green ones who are not shown to be directly transformed from humans.

I know I say this *a lot* but I never mean it more than now - this really deserved to be a two-parter. While the final result was a decent episode, the material was there to make one of GG's finest yet the need for standalone episodes prevented it from reaching its potential. The idea of vengeful spirits of the dead possessing a Digimon (the show is called "Ghost Game" after all) is a refreshing twist as well as could have been interesting to explore much deeper. Espimon's debut was certainly not what I was expecting, based on his concept art I was assuming he'd be a much wackier character so I was caught off-guard by the more stoic approach, although given his antiquated language and constant reference to being a wanderer, I guess it might be a chuuni front or something. Ruli and company were so wasted in this episode they might as well have not been in it - going back to my earlier point, it would have been cool if at the climax of the episode, Gammamon and Espimon are cornered only for Ruli and gang to show up and save them, causing Doumon and Hiro to retreat then it carries into the next episode.

I don't want to be too negative since like I said, it was a decent episode but man, this show sometimes really giveth and then taketh away when it comes to good ideas.

Doumon possessed by real ghost was definitely not my expectation lmao
I mean Manticoremon got turned cause he ate bad data, but this one is actual human ghost possessing a digimon to revive another ghost in a dead body.

The other crew seems pointless, I guess it's to show off Airdramon for future episode???
Espimon isn't bad and I'm somewhat glad to see some digimon being surprised at digivolution again since the early episode keep saying how weird it is for digimon to be able to do that only to never be discussed every again.
Wonder what Espimon meant with Hiro isn't Hiro. He still looks at the ID weirdly even though it's pretty much a definite proof of Hiro's identity (or should be at least)
Hope it's not for a simple gag or something disappointing like Dracumon's return.

I know I say this *a lot* but I never mean it more than now - this really deserved to be a two-parter.
Yeah, I say this a lot too. Some episodes would really perform better if they're allowed more time to set up instead of rushing everything in one go. Granted the times I said this would probably make the total number of episode be way past the usual, but considering that they'd rather focus on episodic instead of the overarching plot like usual Digimon I don't think it would be that bad an idea to do.

I'm wondering whether they're setting up for the crew to get a second set of partners. Espimon for Hiro and Airdramon for Ruli. We already know Tamers can be compatible with more than one Digimon too.

Ey, Kamakura, I've been there.

Bit of a mixed bag of an episode. I like Espimon; not overly cocky, a little goofy and lacking in social cues. Basically everything Kiyoshiro should have been (I do love that Gammamon's instincts are to call Ruli first because she'll actually be able to handle what's going on). And the teasing out for the future is nice.

Doumon was a fun villain, but like... are we just supposed to accept that evil spirits unrelated to Digimon are actually a thing? It's not necessarily the weirdest stuff this show has pulled, but with them proclaiming that they'll return (doubt it) and possessing both humans and Digimon, it just seemed a bit wild to be swept under the rug so quickly. At least the body horror was good; Hiro's evil face was pretty unsettling, and people folding into paper talismans was surprisingly wince-inducing.

I mean, we know spirits and the afterlife exist from the Sepikmon episode, and there seem to be werewolves with- well- Werewolf. It's not as far-fetched as it seems at a first glance.

The villains also usually keep their words if they say they'll return or be back. Dracmon returned after Episode 2 in the Vamdemon episode (only to be killed off, shame), Clockmon and Mummymon (both villains of the first two episodes) tend to reappear, and quite a few wild Digimon have made sporadic appearances. So maybe the spirits of the Hojo Clan will keep their word and return as a future villain?

I see the possibility of the big bad guy of the series is doing something behind the curtain and that includes to possess Doumon with data from ancient times. So technically it may not real ghost or something like that, it's still digimon's doing.

There's a story about Hojo clan in the internet, this "certain digimon" used it (the data) and make it like Doumon was possessed by the Hojo clan ghost while instead the digimon is the one who did it.

It's also somewhat connected to what happened to Manticoremon, he ate Werewolf data even though in his case the one who ate the data and made him to be like that was himself. Or was it?

So if this is true, the big bad digimon behind all this really loves ancient legends.

This wasn't as creepy as last ep but wasn't that bad. Nice to see Espimon. Hope he gets 2 more levels. Could be star or costar potential.
