Cinedigm will be releasing Digimon Fusion Season 1 on DVD in the USA on February 10th, 2015.

It appears the MSRP will be $45.

No boxart yet. No news on if we might get Blu-rays, and the DVDs appear to be dub only.

It appears the officially solicited title is "Digimon Season 6: Fusion DVD Collection 1"

Based on the estimated run-time it appears it will include all of Season 1 of Fusion.

Thanks to WTK as always for early DVD information.

If they're calling season 1 of Fusion "Season 6", it's gonna be weird seeing what they call seasons 2 and 3 of Fusion.

It appears they're calling Fusion 'Season 6' and the others will just be other collections of Fusion.

So basically it appears Fusion will be season 6, but Fusion itself has multiple seasons (of course, with 3 we are still assuming they'll do that separately when they know they have a new Adventure season coming... I wouldn't be shocked if they just dub it all as season/part 2 of Fusion.)

Reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh! manga whose English version was divided into 3 seasons (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Duel Monsters, and Millennium World).

Would have been so less complicated had the dubbers used the word "series" instead of "season" back in the day, like referring to Zero Two as "Series 2", Tamers as "Series 3", etc.

Or if they had acknowledged both Data Squad and Fusion as separate series from the four-season Digimon Digital Monsters series.

"Digimon Season 6: Fusion DVD Collection 2" and "Digimon Season 6: Fusion DVD Collection 3"?

Sure, but it's kinda weird seeing them consider all three as one season when they're so obviously three.

Sure, but it's kinda weird seeing them consider all three as one season when they're so obviously three.

In nearly all Toei material they generally refer to it as 1, and production materials only seem to differentiate 2 of them.

I don't disagree with you in principal mind you, but in their own materials it's basically just 'Xros Wars' and the only specific times they use the titles is specifically in relation to arcs, not to the show itself (unlike other shows that get 'season' titles where they refer to it by the season title) so it appears to some degree Toei only considers it having different titles as generic marketing rather than actually differentiating it into multiple episode groupings (although sort of unique in that it's a rare case where the show itself uses the arc titles in the title screen and product material, despite apparently being considered one thing..)

Toei weirdness is a long tradition. As an example, this explains why the upcoming movie box doesn't have X-Evolution. Their internal title catalog doesn't list it as a movie, and in fact doesn't list it as Digimon. Or that the new Dragonball Kai episodes are actually considered as part of a second named season that's being marketed under it's own title (and is edited down in it's Japanese airing.)

It doesn't necessarily bother me to think of all of Fusion/Xros as season 6 though.

Personally, I'd probably call Xros season 6, and Hunters 6.5, at least that's how I internally think of it.

It's best to just roll with it before it gives you a headache.

Well, as I said, had the word "series" instead of "season" been used from the get-go, everything'd be peachy. ;)

Think we will ever get uncut box sets with the original audio?

I want to say no, but with the zyuranger release...I have no idea

I was hoping for this as well, considering we got subs for the first 3 series of Digimon on Netflix (and Xross Wars too, if you count Crunchyroll)

It figures that a month after I spend money on blank tapes and record the episodes on them, this news would come around. Anyway, Amazon has a listing and it says it'll be a six-disc set. Maybe it'll have five episodes per disc.

I don't think North America will get Blu-ray releases, but I know that Germany will, and split into two volumes. I don't know if they'd have the English audio though.

Yeah, we discussed this... somewhere... I don't recall which thread. It's the type of thing we mention, but isn't notable enough for a full thread since because of language we tend to focus on the English and Japanese stuff.

I wouldn't be shocked if we did get BDs later though. Cinedigm has been a bit toe dippy with BDs for anime thus far, leaving it to a few specialized releases, but based on their Digimon sales and decent BD sales, at some point they'll want to test it on something, and Fusion seems a potential candidate.

Well I hope you're right. I don't know why they wouldn't do it at the same time though.

Because they are still dipping their toes in and figuring out their Blu-ray plans, and Blu-rays cost a decent more to make (in time and money) than DVDs do.

It's sort of like how after the crash of ADV, and them rebuilding as Sentai Filmworks, that Sentai became very specific about what they dubbed. Normally they would do a show sub only on DVD, and if that did well, they would do a dub that would go on Blu-ray later.

I also see it as a marketing choice. Fusion specifically was aimed at young children, who very often if they get disks, would more likely get DVDs than Blu-ray. I can see them being unsure how to proceed. They had nostalgia sales to fall back on for the old seasons, but they may not be quite sure what to do with Fusion.

I wish, but that would be complicated since the Saban dub is so different from the original. Plus we've never gotten Digimon on dvd in the USA with Japanese anything, unless those strange lyrics on the first season box set count.
I'm confused now though. I thought Xros Wars was never released in Japan on video? So how are we getting it? Sorry I get confused when it comes to licensing. >_<

I believe he is just talking about a sub only box, with no dub. There is plenty of history of popular dub only shows later getting a subbed release, and Saban Brands (as a brand leveraging company) definitely appears willing to at least test interest in that sort of thing, since we are getting Zyuranger subbed, and 3 seasons of Digimon that were dub only we can now watch officially with relatively good subtitles on Netflix.)

Plus we've never gotten Digimon on dvd in the USA with Japanese anything, unless those strange lyrics on the first season box set count.

And until they announced it awhile back there had never been a Sentai release in the USA either.

There were rental only DVDs in Japan, and licensing can have nothing to do with what happened in the original country. It's purely the terms of the license. There are more than a few anime that are available in the USA that never got a proper home release (on any format) in Japan in fact.

Oh I didn't know what "Zyuranger" was, sorry! I thought it was the name of the German company or something haha! I don't follow sentai but it's nice to hear that something that was unavailable here for so long is coming for the first time now. That does give me hope. Yeah there definitely have been many dubs that eventually got sub releases but they're rarely kid's shows.
That makes sense about the release now. I've never followed an anime this closely that never got a release in Japan but did here.

More than most people think to be honest.

I mean, in the last 15 or so years we've gotten subbed version of a number of shows that most people would figure because of how aimed they were at kids in the USA that they would never get a proper subbed release here (going to list off some more notable ones just in case some people weren't aware, in case they want to add it to their home collection.)

Samurai Troopers (dubbed as Ronin Warriors)
Mazinger Z (Tranzor Z)
Monster Farm (Monster Rancher... I believe this is scheduled for release but not out yet)
Legendary Ninja Cats (Samurai Pizza Cats)
Go-Lion (Voltron)
Dairugger (Vehicle Voltron)
DBZ (DBZ subbed has become so common that more than a few people forget that for the first few years it was dub only)
Sailor Moon (ditto above)
Macross, Southern Cross, Mospeada (although there were prior attempts to do them subbed in the 90s)

and the most fun example

Gatchaman (a show that had two DIFFERENT popular edited dubs in the USA, now has an uncut dub and sub release)

and of course there are official decent subbed versions for Digimon of Adventure, Zero-Two, Tamers, and all of Xros (the first 3 on Netflix and Xros is on Crunchyroll.)

The best way to get stuff like this is to show the companies involved that you want it. So if you want subbed Digimon on DVD, make sure you watch the streaming versions on Netflix and let other people know they exist.

I expect Shout and Saban will be watching Zyuranger ULTRA closely, as ranger fans have asked for Sentai on DVD for years, and they are doing it rather cheaply.
