I liked the episode. The core of Gravimon was still creepy enough here as it was then. I noticed the G-Cutemon thing but isn't Anubimon close enough?

It was an okay episode, I found the whole core in Mikey's arm to be a little disturbing - and also how Christopher quite callously executes Gravimon by crushing his core.

Callous? ...To be fair, I might stomp the thing or have Metal Greymon blow it to bits. After what he did, this is light.

Episode thread for Episode 44 of Digimon Fusion

12th July - USA

No spoilers past this episode
I haven't been able to watch the series (no TV), but someone told me this was preempted by Monsters vs. Aliens. Can anyone confirm that it was actually aired by an official source?

I actually saw this episode. I have it DVR'd so it wasn't preempted for me.

A whole bunch of priorities and distractions kept me from watching this and the proceeding episodes, but now I'm gonna try watching these and comparing them to the original like before.

An attack called "Fusion Burning Rocker" is captioned when X7 was originally just wacking Gravimon with his staff.

"Octa Gravity" is renamed "Octogravity”

"Xros Burning Rocker" is renamed "Fusion Flamethrower"

The close up of the dying Gravimon yelling "O-ONOREEEE!!!!!!" and the shot of his body silhouette set ablaze before exploding are cut out.

Hi-VisionMonitamon's original DigiXros sequence that had a bunch of technical data and a "HIVSIONMONITAMON" name caption is replaced with a clean version from a previous episode.

Wendimon is changed to Endigomon like last episode.

Hi-VisionMonitamon kinda gives away the big reveal of Gravimon’s regeneration by saying “I detect Gravimon’s digital signature! But that’s impossible!”when he follows behind the Wendimon carrying Gravimon’s cable.

Anubimon is renamed Anubismon, and is given a deep, masculine voice unlike the feminine voice he had in the original.

Anubismon flat out gives away the surprise of Gravimon’s regeneration by speaking directly to Gravimon’s cable, addressing it by name and openly declaring that Gravimon is going to regenerate just before he does.

The Core being called such is kept intact.

Shoutmon originally got offended for Kiriha disagreeing with Shoutmon’s claim of Taiki being the best general in the Digital World, while here he gets offended by Christopher saying he’s glad Shoutmon isn’t king after Shoutmon said that if he was king Christopher would be scrubbing Shoutmon’s digital toilet.

Despite earlier being captioned as “Anubismon”, the guy is referred to by Gravimon as “Anubimon”.

Knightmon and PawnChessmon are given brand new name captions in the DigiXros screen, likely so as to correct the original misspelling of "PAUNCHESSMON" in the Japanese version.

Bastemon is cut out of the DigiXros sequence for G-Cutemon, making her no longer be a component of the combination.

ChibiKamemon is given a new name caption of “CHIBITORTOMON” in his DigiXros screen to replace the "CHIBIKAMEMON" caption from the Japanese version.

Jijimon’s misspelled "JIJIIMON" name caption is left intact in his DigiXros screen.

"G-CUTEMON" (pronounced as “Greatest Cutemon”) is kept in the DigiXros screen, but is then captioned as “Greatest Cutemon” after the sequence ends.

"Greatest Sonic Wave" is renamed “Sonic Disrupter Wave”, but isn’t caption so it’s anyone’s guess as to whether it’s really spelled as “Disrupter” or “Disruptor”. And for this attack, Greatest Cutemon repeatedly yells his name over and over.

When the disguised Nene turns to walk past the Wendimon guard, a close up shot of Mervamon’s snarling face is inserted between Nene’s starting and completing the turning of her body, which occurs a second or so before Mervamon attacks. So in the original, Nene speaks to the guard, Nene turns and starts walking, then Mervamon attacks, while now she speaks the guard, starts turning, Mervamon growls, Nene completes her turning and starts walking, and Mervamon attacks. Why this shot was inserted I have no idea since it had no bearing on the typical covering up of Mervamon’s body. And as no time was lost, that means that the new shot cut out part of Nene’s turning. Weird.

"Hebi Punch" (which was not captioned in the original) is renamed “Snake Punch” (and isn’t captioned in the dub either)

The shot of Wendi-Nene, Mervamon, and Kiriha making his little “Ke” sound of frustration is cut out and replaced by a different close up shot of Kiriha’s eyes taken from earlier in the cave scene when everyone put their hands together.

The shot of Nene and Mervamon running on ahead after Kiriha told them to go is replaced by an earlier shot of Wendi-Nene running by herself.

"Death Divider" is renamed “Tail of Terror” but not captioned.

Anubimon saying “I don’t know” in response to Kiriha’s questions about the Core is changed to just grunting.

When Cutemon jumps out of G-Cutemon’s body, he yells “I’m De-Fusing!”

The shot of Mervamon using her sword to break through the steel door is replaced with a shot of her using her snake arm to break through it instead.

Likewise, part of the aftermath of her breaking through the door is cut out in an attempt to hide the fact that her sword is what originally broke through the door.

The quick shot of the green Monitamon phasing into the room is cut out, having him instead already be onscreen when we see him, so as to hide a shot of Mervamon’s body.

“Darkness Loader! DigiXros!” is changed to just “Digi-Fuse!”

Gravimon Darkness Mode is kept, but he speaks it as “Gravimon Darkness Mode engage!”

Gravimon just shoving X7 backward is given an attack caption and spoken as “High Gravity Punch”

One instance of X7 trying to shoot Gravimon with his gun made out of Sparrowmon’s head and guns is given an attack caption and spoken as “Double Flare Blaster”

And again second time, minus the caption. Though, this one sounded more to me like “Double Flare Buster”, but it could just be the sound quality of the video I’m watching.

"High Gravity Pressure" is kept, despite last episode renaming it as “High Gravity Grip”

After the screen flashes in negative colors in the close up of Taiki’s face, the shot of him screaming in agony while raising his bandaged arm is cut out to remove another look at Mervamon.

The disturbing close up shot of Gravimon’s Core embedded and pulsing within Taiki’s arm is NOT cut out.

The shot of Kiriha telling Taiki to rip out Gravimon’s Core is cut out and replaced by a different shot of Kiriha from later in the episode when he surrenders to Gravimon, to remove yet another view of Mervamon.

Gravimon saying that he Core has already integrated itself into Taiki’s body, and that the next Land can only be reached if Taiki is killed, is changed to Gravimon saying that his Core has already infected Mikey’s systems.

A shot of Mervamon and Nene insulting Gravimon is cut out and replaced by first a close up of Mervamon’s eye and then a shot of Nene speaking, both seemingly taken from outside of this episode.

Gravimon originally wanting the surrendering Kiriha to suffer some more and feel the agony of his foolishness, while now he instead wants Christopher to pay for rejecting the offer Gravimon gave him before.

“Kieru!” (“Die!”) is changed to “Fry!”

Taiki’s awesome line of “Gravimon, if I die then you die too!” is softened to “If I’m destroyed, then your Core will be too, Gravimon!”

The shots of Mervamon pushing both boys out of the way of Gravimon’s attack are both edited. The first shot is cut out and replaced by a different shot that looks like it came from one of her snake arm attack sequences, and the other shot has all but the end of it cut out to remove a view of her torso.

The shot of Taiki standing next to Mervamon as he explains why he jumped in front of Kiriha to take Gravimon’s blast is cut out and replaced by a different shot of Taiki, one that has a particular style to his mouth movement that really does not match up with the words he now speaks.

Nefertimon is kept
Holy Beast is changed to just Beast
"Curse of Queen" is replaced with “Queen’s Paw” (the dub name for “Nile Jewelry” back in Zero Two)
"Rosetta Stone" is replaced with “Beam of Isis” (a new dub name for “Curse of Queen”, despite this attack having been renamed “Cat’s Eye Beam” in Zero Two and “Queen’s Curse” in Rumble Arena 2)

Mikey claims that Nefertimon’s name comes from the mythological sphinx, when the name really comes from the Egyptian queen Nefertiti.

In the next-episode preview, Mikey hints at the secret of Apollomon’s true nature, thereby kinda giving away some of the surprise to come in the next episode.

The Digimon dub: making kids dumber since 1999.
