Digimon Card Battle is back with episode 8.

This time the episode is a bit different, bringing in everyone from Card Battle and Fun Digica to go over the new release of the 4th, 5th, and 6th starter decks.

There are no matches played this time, instead (assuming I understood what they were doing correctly), they were having a discussion on an interesting topic...

They spend the time showing new players, who may have just bought starter decks, small changes and tweaks to think of so they could begin to learn to customize starter decks to make them more viable decks using booster packs.

And after the match we get a preview of 2 new cards...

From Booster Set 4, we get Chaosmon 'and' Chaosmon: Valdur Arm!

The art here is interesting in that, even though it's 2 separate artists (one of which is As'Maria), it feels like the art is meant to compliment each-other. The normal Chaosmon has a focus on the BanchoLeomon arm, although the DarkDramon arm is very visible (plus we get to a cameo from a very visible Omegamon), while on Valdur Arm, it feels like the focus is 100% on the Valdurmon arm.

Very neat to get to see both of those at once.

Previous card previews for Booster Set 4:

We have clean images for Starter Decks 4, 5, and 6! Plus Tamer Battle Pack 2, the 2nd Winner's Card, and the 1st 2 scene vote cards featuring Adventure and 02.

Getting those two together really is nice.
I find interesting that BanchoLeomon is hinted to be Green, as his line has been all over the place: Green Babies, Yellow Child and Adult with a Blue Perfect.
He'll probably get a full Green line this booster, but I found this a fun fact, anyways.

Now their chance to make the missing Chaosmon variants that probably exist, since there's four components meaning there should be variants such as Kentarousmon + Varodurumon or Darkdramon + Kentarousmon.

Anyway, really good art and it's nice to see Varodurumon Arm since it's only ever really been in Hacker's Memory. Maybe level 8s end up happening after all for UltimateChaosmon.

Considering I beat the final boss in Next Order with Chaosmon, I'm ecstatic to see him represented so soon in the TCG.

Interesting that BanchoLeomon will presumably be Green then. Valdur Arm definitely got the Yellow niche of lowering DP which edges it out as the better one imo. That said, Darkdramon is one of my all-time favourites so I'd probably use regular Chaosmon in a Black focused deck personally.

Didn't expect both forms to appear like that. Glad that Valdur Arm gotten more appearances.

BantyoLeomon's evo line is so messy all over color cards. Yellow, Blue and now this green.

C'mon bring that out Sleip Arm! Already!

the darkdramon one has piercing and puts itself to active and seems to give you a free attack on anything the opponent has.
the valudarmon one gives -7000 to 2 digis upon evolution and gives you 3 memory when destroyed

Chaosmon
<Piercing>
[When Evolving] Unsuspend this Digimon. Then, this Digimon can attack an opponent's Digimon. The attack from this effect can target your opponent's Unsuspended Digimon

Chaosmon: Valdur Arm
[When Evolving] Activate the following effect twice: 1 of your opponent's Digimon gets -7000 DP for the turn
[When Deleted] Gain +3 Memory

Can we hope for UltimateChaosmon?
Even it seems likely to be Level 7, I'll be okay with it.
We need more of him after that Zeed extraction in XW manga.

@Tarama it would be perfect as a level 7 that can evolve from any color, although I wonder if level 7s would even see play because of how much time that would take evolving up and how massive the play costs must be

Really like both of these to be honest. Wasn't expecting Chaosmon in this set, let alone both of them at the same time, nor was I expecting either of them to evolve from Green, but I'll take it. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but regular Chaosmon being a Rare makes it the most accessible Lv7 thus far, as all other Lv7's have been SR or higher if I remember correctly. Could see this one being pretty popular for those on a budget as a result. Anyways, onto my thoughts. I have quite a bit to talk about here, so I'm busting out the spoiler tags again.
Anyways, regular Chaosmon kinda embodies the aggressive Piercing side of Green. Only other card we've seen with the ability to attack Unsuspended Digimon was RustTyrannomon in Green, and this is just a nice addition to that style. What's important to note here is that due to this attack being tied to an On Digivolve effect, the attack will go through even if you pay the six memory and the gauge lands on your opponent's turn, as turns don't pass until all effects finish resolving. Really interested in using this with stuff like Imperialdramon in Green, as it has a very high attack ceiling already, with two attacks on it's own and a potential third if you've evolved from Paildramon, so finishing the turn with evolving into Chaosmon for a final attack seems like a great swing in tempo considering you're attacking four Digimon and checking four Security Cards via Piercing. Alternatively, I've also been considering playing this with the aforementioned RustTyrannomon, as while it doesn't have the crazy high ceiling as Imperialdramon, it's also less reliant on your opponent leaving their board open, as RustTyrannomon doesn't care if your opponent is Suspended or not. A simple Pierce from Rusty into Chaosmon to take out two Digimon and two Security cards isn't bad all things considered. Not sure how I feel about using Chaosmon in Black though, as while getting a sudden burst of offense isn't bad, I feel like the other Lv7's Black has access to such as Millenniummon or Alter-S fit Black's midrange and balanced style better. But hey, who knows, maybe the Darkdramon line will be in this set and it'll complement Chaosmon nicely.
I was expecting Valdur Arm to evolve from Yellow, and Valdur Arm certainly doesn't disappoint. As a result of that DP lowering effect it got from the Yellow side of things, I can see Valdur Arm fitting in quite nicely in Green builds that are more control oriented, such as with cards like Ceresmon, Puppetmon and MegaGargomon, doesn't seem like a bad option to have in a pinch if needed. The card should also be right at home in Yellow since lowering DP is one of their big gimmicks. In particular, Valdur Arm could end up really nasty in ShineGreymon decks, as it could both be used as insurance if ShineGreymon on it's own isn't enough to wipe your opponent's board since Hikari makes it decently likely you'll be able to evolve into Shine without passing. Alternatively, if ShineGreymon does do it's intended purpose and succeeds in nuking your opponent's board, Valdur Arm could also serve as a nice way to end your turn to keep your opponent down while they're trying to rebuild their board after ShineGreymon blew it to pieces, seems like a nice way to maintain control while you build up another ShineGreymon in the back. It's memory effect is also nice as a way to give you a rebate in the event your opponent has to get rid of it for one reason or another. Overall, I really like this one as well.
So yeah, very happy with how these turned out. Was wanting Green and Yellow to get a Lv7 of their own since they were the only colors that didn't have access to an in-house Lv7 without resorting to Multicolor strategies, and these both seem pretty good for what they're meant to do. I also just like Chaosmon in general, so getting to see both of his forms earlier then expected is a nice surprise.

Wait, have the two versions of Chaosmon always been slightly different in terms of design (outside of having a different arm, of course), because I'm only noticing this now.

Chaosmon is cool to see. Especially both variants.

With both Omegamons, both Chaosmons, and RagnaLordmon, hopefully we'll see more Fusions soon like Examon, Grace Novamon and Voltobautamon

Yes, they always have. It's a nice characteristic of the Chaosmons, as lorewise their components digicores never properly fuse.

Unfortunately, the art in the cards doesn't seem to be carrying over the "slowly falling apart" bit that the art almost always has. Shame, that's my favorite thing about Chaosmon.

Then what would you call the pixels at the edge of the ribbon/scarves and wings?
