The first match is Ryota vs. Sayaka.
The second match is Hideyoshi vs. Takahashi.

Also after the match we get a big stack for our first previews of Booster Set 10 Xros Encounter during the post match housekeeping (going over products, etc.)

First up, we get a look at the pack packaging for Booster Set 10, which features Shoutmon X5. We went ahead and did a straightened version of the image.

Then we get a stack of card previews!

Our first previews are probably the 3 you'd most expect to see in the set. Shoutmon x4, Taiki, and Shoutmon.

Shoutmon and x4 both have a really good style to them showing off some nice detail, but also feeling accurate to their anime designs, while Taiki features new anime style artwork.

Shortly after the episode better quality versions (with sample text) was put up by the Digimon Card Twitter. Both versions of each are included above.

Then, we get the announcement and explanation of a new card effect which isn't a shock for the new set....

digimoncardbattle_v2_73_14_april14_2022.jpg

DigiXros!

The DigiXros effect allows a card to be evolved to for less than the evolution cost. And for the examples you can see previews of cards for Ballistamon, Dorulumon, and Starmons.

Using Shoutmon x4 as an example. x4 has an evolution cost of 9, but has a 'DigiXros -2' effect. That effect can apply with Shoutmon, Ballistamon, Dorulumon, and Starmons. For each of those cards you have, the evolution cost goes down by 2.

It's an interesting way to integrate DigiXros into it.

Booster Set 10 Xros Encounter will be out on May 27th.

More next time!

Interesting, given both Takumi Aiba and the Digimon Kaiser, I was half expecting Taiki to be White as well but Red is fine. Hopefully Kiriha is Black then.

I went back to check and curiously the previous Shoutmons don't have the "Xros Heart" factor so I wonder if that'll be errata'd or not.

As expected, the Shoutmon X-Number cards end up with a lot of text. Both "DigiXros" and "Material Saving"(?) as new Keywords to keep track of.

it's a Play Cost of 9, isn't it? and an Evolution cost of "3 from Red or Yellow"?

I'm sorry, I am not sure if I understood how the DigiXros mechanic works. I don't play the game so I only know the rules a bit from reading here and there. You said X4 has an evolution cost of 9, by applying the DigiXros effect using one of the valid targets, I can reduce it to 7 memory, is that it?

But from what I remember, the number above would be the play cost to play a digimon directly from the hand, without evolving. While the colored circles below indicate the evolution cost to evolve a digimon in the field from the hand. I think X4 says it accepts both Red and Yellow lvl. 3 for a cost of 3 memory.

In that case doesn't it mean the xros effect applies to the 3 memory cost, reducing it to 1 memory?

having looked at it again, can confirm this: Play cost is 9. Digixros-2 means that for each of shoutmon, starmons, dorulumon, or ballistamon you have on your field or in your hand, you can put them under the shoutmon x4 to reduce the play cost by 2 each, so you can play it for one memory with all four under it if you have them available.

Oh, so is a cumulative effect, now it makes more sense to me. Thanks for explaining. I was wondering what the advantage would be in this situation, otherwise.

So this is considered "playing" a digimon, not "evolving" it, correct? A bit odd, but I guess makes sense since xros by itself is not necessarily evolving in the media that introduced it? I didn't watch the anime or play the games, so I am not sure how evolution works in-universe.

The evolution cost being 3 means that if for whatever reason I wanted to evolve a Shoutmon or Starmon into X4 I could do that instead of xros? Or if I am using one of these two I must xros them?

It might sound pointless, but I figured if there are any useful effects that trigger only when a digimon evolves, it would be worth it.

To be fair @Noni, X3 was a regular Digivolution in the VB roster of the Pendulum Z so you could absolutely use the gestalts as regular Digivolutions.

Oh, absolutely @Chimera-gui . I have zero issues with regular digimon evolving into digimon who are usually jogress or similar. It doesn't bother me like I think it bothers some folks. You can always handwave in canon as that digimon having "collected" the data of it's components during it's lifespan. Digimon Adventure: (2020) sure seemed fond of this as implication for some unusual evolutions, which I liked.

Was just trying to make sense of why mechanically the xros mechanic was not considered an evolution in the card game, and if it had flavor reasons based in canon for this. It occurred to me that since some xros are simply to be enhancements that don't change a digimon level, like becoming weapons, and that they happen with more frequency during battle than regular evolutions that this could be the why (?)

In-universe, Xros is distinct from evolution.

Unless there's specific text to the contrary, the same color components should be able to evolve as normal. I think making Shoutmon evolving to X-any only through the mechanic would be an unnecessary complication, from a game design point.

I may have made mistakes with these so let me know:

Shoutmon
Rookie | Data | Mini Dragon
[This card can digivolve from a Lv.2 Digimon with [Xros Heart] in traits for 0 memory]
[When Played] Reveal the top 3 cards of your deck. Add 1 Digimon card with [Xros Heart] in its traits and 1 Tamer card revealed to your hand. Place any remaining cards at the bottom of your deck in any order.
[When Deleted] <Save> (You can place this card under one of your Tamer cards in play)
<Inherited Effect>: [Your Turn] While this Digimon has [Shoutmon] in its name, this Digimon gains <Rush>

Shoutmon X4
Champion | Data | Composite
<Material Save 2> (When this Digimon would be deleted, you may place 2 of this Digimon's digivolution cards that are this Digimon's Digi Xros requirements underneath 1 of your Tamers in play)
[When Played] <Draw 2>
[End of Attack] By placing all of this Digimon's digivolution cards underneath 1 of your Tamers in play, unsuspend 1 of your Tamers and delete this Digimon
<Digi Xros -2> [Shoutmon] x [Balistamon] x [Dorurumon] x [Starmons]
When playing this Digimon, you may place any of the cards named from your hand or Battle Area to the bottom of this Digimon's digivolution cards. Reduce the play cost by the stated amount for each card placed.

Mikey Kudo
[When Played] Reveal the top 4 cards of your deck. Add 1 card with [Xros Heart] in its traits among them to your hand, and put 1 Digimon card with [Xros Heart] in its traits beneath this card. Return any remaining cards to the bottom of your deck in any order
[Your Turn] When playing 1 of your Digimon with Digi Xros requirements, you may suspend this card to place cards from under your Tamers into that Digimon's digivolution sources to meet its Digi Xros requirements
[Security] Play this card without paying its memory cost

Digi-Xros functions about as I'd expect. The Card Game has been pretty faithful with dedicating mechanics to the non-traditional evolution methods, like Jogress and Spirit Evolution.

The horns on X4 look really off though, even if you account for perspective.

This new artwork might turn me into a Shoutmon X4 fan. Not sure why but it looks nice.

Plus the whole idea is that you only need the base Digixrose units to perform a Digixrose which Digixroses themselves, conveniently enough, count towards hence why SkullKnightmon Cavalier Mode > Mighty Axe Mode > DarkKnightmon > Cavalier Mode is a thing that can legitimately happen despite Cavalier and Mighty Axe both being Level IV and DarkKnightmon being Level V.

Or at least, similar enough data to them. Shoutmon should really only need machine and beast data to make his early Xros line.

Neat to see Xros Wars finally be the main focus of a set and getting to know how DigiXros will work as a mechanic here. Here's hoping we also get some Xros Wars manga representation, would be nice to have stuff like EX6 and JaegerDorulumon show up.

Damn. I was wondering how they were going to integrate Xros in a way that differentiates it from Jogress. This was a cool inventive way to do it.

Shoutmon and it’s Xros lines reminds me of Sentai mecha, Gundam, Gurren Lagann, and Getter Robo.

I hope we see Angoramon, Symbare Angoramon, and WezenGammamon in Booster 10.

I gotta say i cant wait to see what this set gets called when we get the englsih BT10 reveal. Fusion Encounter just doesn't sound good at all

And we got "New Awakening" or something like that instead of "New Heroes" while boosters 4-7 just used the Japanese names if I'm not mistaken. X record i expect to remain the same no reason to change it but Xros Encounter might be a little odd full of stuff with the "digi-fuse" effect and the "fusion-fighter" category that is assuming tey use those terms - They used Lighdramon i think instead of Raidramon so who knows.

Thematically, this is great. Tamers can store and send out materials for ESS depending on the situation. The actual Digimons themselves can send back the materials to the Tamer for saving. Great stuff.
