Digimon Card Battle is back with episode 62!

They continue their New Year's 4v4 Tournament. The winners get a special New Year's gift.




Cards are up to date with Booster EX-02.

The match this time is Iwai vs. Takahashi.






Also after the match get a card preview for Booster Set 9 X Record during the post match housekeeping (going over products, etc.)

We get a preview of Gaioumon.

Gaioumon is another character in this set that gets some really nice artwork of them from the side, with some nice effects on the card.

Being able to digivolve from blackwargreymon is a little weird. I know it was made as blackwargreymon x but they renamed it and made it to be a regular Digimon then made a different bwg x. Feels odd to have that clause especially when a gaiomon FBM would eventually come then you could do bwg > gaiomon > gaiomon fbm > lv7 feels a bit much

It seems like they are doing a lot of Digimon Pendulum X series in this.

By this rate I wouldn't be surprised by a GigaSeadramon and//or UlforceVeedramon X reveal soon. DinoTigermon is also just about confirmed to happen with Leomon X in the set.

Considering we're getting Gallantmon X, we probably can't expect MedievalDukemon as well though.

This card/Digimon is also treated as having [Greymon] in its name.

I appreciate that they gave Gaiomon inclusion text to allow the card to benefit from the various Greymon support released thus far, was wondering if it's status as a Greymon subspecies rather then a proper member would mess with that. By the same token, I do agree that it's a bit odd to have Gaiomon have an evolution condition for BWG outside of being an admittedly nice nod to the development history of the design.

Anyways, from a mechanical standpoint, it's a straightforward extension of what BWG established in the previous set. Honestly, the thing that caught my eye most here is how Gaiomon almost feels like it's propping itself up to be BWG's equivalent to Fighter Mode, at least functionally anyways. Exact same Play, Evolution, and Alternative Evolution Costs, as well as sharing the same above average 13k DP for a Lv6. Could just be me overanalyzing things and seeing things that aren't there though, that's something I'm also prone to doing.

I was looking at Wikimon and they have a note on Gaioumon's page saying "This Digimon was labeled as Gaioumon X Burst Mode (ガイオウモンXバーストモード) by the artist.".
I like the idea of him being a burst mode to both BWG and BWGX

That note is not referring to Gaioumon in general, it's referring to a single unofficial piece of artwork in the gallery depicting a Gaioumon subspecies.

I thought As'maria drew this until I saw the different name! Damn that artist drew so good and it's perfect mimic of As'maria art style!

GaiOumon have the largest fan populations. Haha

But it's weird this card treats GaiOumon differently from other normal "Ultimate" level cards. I wonder why?

oh, on mobile view it just sits no context on the bottom of the page under "Notes". I haven't looked at that page on a computer yet. When I press the up pointing arrow beside it on mobile it doesn't bring me to the context either
