Digimon Card Battle is back with episode 50!


This week Digimon Card Battle continues the tournament they've been running.

Updated tournament bracket.




We get two matches this time, the last of the first round, and the first of the semi-finasl.

Before the match they go over some of their cards and other details.

The first match is the last match for the first round, Yamadeya vs. Iwai.
Then we move on to the first semifinal match, Takahashi vs. Sayaka.




Also after the matches they show off Booster Set 8 during the post match housekeeping (going over products, etc.)

We get a preview of Magnamon from Booster Set 8 New Hero!

Really nice art for what will be one of the most wanted cards from the set.

Shortly after the episode went up, the Digimon Card Game Twitter put up a nicer quality preview of the card, but with sample text on it. Both previews are included here.

Magnamon being lv.4 makes sense to the Armor level. But I am confused, because Magnamon is one of Royal Knights and is treated as an Ultimate-level Digimon because this.
Rapidmon Armor probably is Lv.4 on Digimon Card Game too.

Magnamon being Level 4 makes total sense, it's like Lucemon being Level 3. That something is treated as a specific level in terms of power is irrelevant to what level it is, and Armors here are Level 4.

Pretty sure the old TCG also had all the Armors at one level essentially.

While it's a Lv.4, Magnamon has DP within the 6000-8000 range of Lv.5 Digimon (plus it has whatever that +2000 effect is).

As shown with Beast Spirits, Levels for "non-leveled" Digimon in the Card Game are more an indicator of relativity of evolution, than an indicator of power-levels.

I love how Armors and Hybrids are flexible in terms of the level. That what makes them unique. There's no standard rules, because they *are* Armors and Hybrids.

"Champion/Adult" isn't written anywhere on its card, instead the Level is "Armor". Maybe in the future we can have a Magnamon that evolves from Lv. 5s with a stupidly high cost to evolve from Veemon that is a boss monster without needing as much support from other cards, but for now it's meant to be the win condition of Armor archetype decks so they have it evolve from Lv. 3s like all the other armors in order to give better synergy to the archetype.

tl;dr it would bug you less if you don't see Lv. 4 as meaning Champion as it's not what the card game is trying to do here ;b

Lv.4 was weird when I first saw it, but this is honestly a good card imo. He should be immune to piercing due to the armor release effect, which is really good for a blocker. He unsuspends himself ,and we know how good it is in combo with jamming veemon. He can also evolve further like any other Lv.4, so the fact that the DP boost is only temporary isn't a bad thing.

Edit: but then who's the secret rare (probably beside paladin mode)? Rapidmon armor?

I can understand why he is only Lvl 4 since he evolves directly from Veemon, but I find it hard to conceive that he can evolve into a Perfect-Level Digimon.
It is even more doubtful if we take into account Rapidmon Armor which should be able to evolve into Rapidmon Perfect which is however explicitly inferior to him.

Again, it’s just a gameplay mechanic, Rapidmon Armor’s profil explicitly state that it’s basically the regular Rapidmon, but better.

I don’t mind the card being inconsistent because it’s a card game, without the slightest hint of context or story, but maybe we should avoid considering any piece of media as canon.

Canon is "a collection or list of works that are accepted as genuine." Unless you are arguing that the original TCG isn't genuine, in the context of the new TCG, which has made constant reference to the original TCG many times (even ignoring that they keep reprinting cards from it and made multiple variants of cards to look like the old style, there's also stuff like Imperialdramon Black being a big deal when that only happened in the old TCG prior), then yes, it is in fact that way.

Half the point of Digimon is that anything could, in theory, become anything else. So, yes, that's how that works. And Magnamon being evolvable without the Digimental of Miracles isn't some weird new concept either, because, yes, that's been a thing since the early aughts and has been used as recently as the Vital Bracelet. Armors evolving like any other Digimon is just a thing. It's so much of a thing that one of the original gimmicks of the Devas is that they evolved from Armors, although time has given them other things to evolve from.

No, the concept of canon existed to boot out any religious works that were considered problematic to the belief system being pushed. Its adoption thousands of years later in a totally different context by various different things is not the fault of the "concept of canon."
