I'm kind of torn on this one...

The overall episode I mostly like. They used Sephirothmon neatly, we got some neat scenes from various characters. We got HolyAngemon.

We even got a neat Angemon/Devimon fight (the first part.)

But throwing in background details 20 episodes after a character had any relivence kind of sucks, and it doesn't really make him any more interesting at this point. It mostly served to go "Fnahahaha, I might be back."

All the background stuff for Angemon and Devimon was either stuff that simply doesn't matter at this point, or was 'mostly' covered.

Would have worked better if it was just "Oh snap, someone he's more coherent than the other copies."

I appreciated the small acknowledgement of Ogremon.

Basically an episode that overall felt 'mostly fine, good even, with some fun', but throwing in stuff that would have been relevant months ago, and... just isn't now.

On the plus side, Mimi's husband continues to be a delight as Devimon, happy to see him pop up again. Hopefully if they use him again it's just done a bit cleaner. And maybe as DoneDevimon...

I really like this episode. Whenl ooking at it form the side of Devimon it's pretty week but from Angemon's perspective is super interesting. The biggest pull was their implied relationship and it turns out the they are the apart of each other. Devimon is the part of Angemon that gave up and the more he remembers his past failures the more the dark feelings start to haunt him, but he has Takeru and that's enough for him to pull through like it was before.

Digimon really plays with it's light vs dark themes as black and white even when it pretends to say otherwise but with the imagery in this episode, the entire Devimon dissolving sequence and recontextualizing HolyAngemon's left arm, this might be it's best shot at doing it. That being said, I hope we have more Ultimate alts. than what has been shown in preview materials, but I'm not going to let my wishful thinking get in the way of this show. It's moving as fast and as slow as it wants and I can predict when it's going to do what.

Finally HolyAngemon. I think this was good introduction, though his 01 appearance is still number one for me.

Devimon being part of Angemon surprised me. And he's still around.
I'm guessing that he's going to be a part of why Takeru's getting Goddramon.

I'm wondering if that near corruption confirms NeoDevimon as HolyAngemon's counterpart, or deconfirms it given the DoneDevimon evolution instead of Daemon.

I'm glad Sephirothmon wasn't completely destroyed. He was my favorite part of Frontier.

This episode was FIREEE! it had me glued! I loved the twist of Devimon being apart of Angemon. It will be quite interesting seeing how things develop moving forward. Seems Devimon is still in him with the ending dialogue Holyangemon had with him at the end as he looked at his arm.

This episode in theory, sounded like it would be
my fav one yet, but turned out to be not the case.

Firstly, they had the impossible task of matching MagnaAngemon's original debut. Piedmon's Last Jest was among the most iconic episodes Digimon ever produced, by far my fav as it brought out an amazing evolution at the verge of defeat by a memorable villain and exemplified the power of Hope.

Since the stakes were nowhere as high this time around, the battle was lost before it began.

It makes sense that Devimon was born out of Angemon himself as his shadow self after incurring injuries in the Ancient War. I was a bit disappointed he wasn't a fallen form of one of the other Holy Digimon we saw before because it would've enriched the backstory more and given "old friend" more context but oh well. This was more of an inner personal struggle and it worked well.

The bit about him being indestructible and being able to restore his physical form as Angemon gained power was interesting. Also saying The Holy Digimon could control the world with his kind of power if he wasn't held back by his mission, Takeru and Hope, it makes sense. This aspect of light and dark sold the episode for me.

People talk about the power levels of Angel Digimon, but they tend to forget that Angels are assigned a duty/purpose, and they fall when they stray from it or question it. It is less about raw power and more about fulfilling a role when it comes to them.

We've had moments where Takeru showed amazing bravery before so the "I trust you" bit did not feel as powerful as it should've but it worked. After having defeated Devimon with the light of Hope though, not sure if it felt climactic enough to warrant Magna Angemon. I was expecting some Gate of Destiny carnage but we got some nice plasma slashes with Excalibur instead.

The part at the end about the answer lying beyond the path felt like a tease to Goddramon, and Devimon's laughter gave me chills. I wonder if Shadow Seraphimon might make an appearance down the line.

All in all, a good episode but no where near comparable to the original debut.

It was good episode, but connetcions between Angemon and Devimon should be revealed in earlier episodes.

I wonder why Taichi and Yamato didn't use WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon? In past series partner digimons always evolwed into thier higest forms during battles.

This episode is actually good despite terrible animations as usual.

Vademon cult sent Sephirotmon... And beamed in UFO style I didn't expect unlike Frontier, it was beaming at 45 degree.

Oddly Sephirotmon in Frontier had real Perfect level enemies. This one is very similar to Eyesmon who copies and creates the data but unlike Eyesmon, it just copies the trapped digimon ones to bring out their encountered enemies to swarm but it's good thing Sephirotmon is using their attacks to fight off like Frontier did.

But I didn't expect Devimon with this unforgotten quote "My old friend" is actually his shadow in Alphamon/Death-Xmon style and born from that swamp along with the damaged Angemon!

Wow Sephirotmon just respawned a new one of himself after one of its ball got destroyed by HolyAngemon. Now that is scary ability.

How many plans involves with reviving Milleniummon Vademon cult came up with? Vademon cult is probably the biggest mastermind villain not this Milleniummon. Maybe the final boss will do for him.

Ah Patamon got his memories restored so all three Archangels finally have their memories returned so it'll be interesting to see if they have more interesting things to tell those chosen ones.

Shame NeoDevimon didn't get there but just the mask with Sephirotmon eyes.

Pity Sephirotmon didn't get any special mentions around him just like Daipenmon and Velgrmon. Petaldramon actually got something more than just being random wild digimon.

Overall i liked it, just wish it had better animation and that Takeru had to do more than just stand there and BELIEVE to get his new form
Also I think its pretty clear why a Milleniummon cult would want the data of *greymon*, *metalgreymon*, *garurumon*, *kuwagamon*, *angemon* and *devimon* among others...

So, Devimon was just some clone of Patamon? Not his actual friend turned evil?

That is exceedingly disappointing. All this waiting for an incredibly generic answer.

You could've used this to flesh out the war. We know so little about it. Give us some details on how the Angels operated. Something!

Okay, first Calmaramon, then Petaldramon and now Sephirothmon? Methinks the writers really wanted to do a Frontier reboot but got lumped with Adventure instead. ;)

Anyways, it was cool to see a bunch of previous enemies come back if only briefly. Devimon in particular was interesting as the twist of him being a Hollow Ichigo-esque darkness inside Angemon was unexpected but I really loved how they tied it into HolyAngemon having a black right arm which represents how Devimon cannot truly be vanquished.

Ok, little pet peeve here, but what's the deal with metalgreymon? They can't keep his size consistent! Sometimes he's gigantic and sometimes he's only slightly bigger than regular greymon! It's even more jarring in this episode because he faces a copy of metaltyranomon who was the same size as Metalgreymon in his debut! And they kept metaltyranomon huge in this episode, so why make metalgreymon so much smaller?!

Great episode, I loved every single thing in it.
Holyangemon's evolution is very beautiful even if simple, the episode had dragon ball z vibes in it for me.
Things are improving.

I am wondering, if DarkKnightmon had succeeded in corrupting Patamon’s digitama, what would have come of it ?
Another Devimon ? Daemon ?

Apart from that I rather enjoyed the episode, it finally gives us a little more information on the Lore of the Holy-Digimon, and for once the evolution seems deserved.
A little disappointed with Angemon's evil-double Devimon, though, I wish he had been a Corrupted Angel like Tailmon.

The Vademon Cult's plan to create a perfect body for Milleniummon was pretty obvious in hindsight, I wonder if Sephirotmon recovered the Mugendramon data contained in Agumon ?

This episode is called The Sword of Hope and yet Holy Angemon doesn't shout the name of his holy sword as he uses it. Damb I would have loved to hear him shout EXCALIBUR, as he gets a bit of revenge for what happened to other Seraphimon in Frontier.

On a more serious note yeah I agree that this episode was good but probably should have happened just a little bit closer to all the other Devimon stuff, or at least had a few hints in other episodes leading up to it so Devimon stayed in our minds and we didn't just assume he was gone, I did prefer the Idea of Devimon being another Angel digimon who fell a bit more then being Angemons other half, but I did like how they handled HolyAngemon having him be a combination of both, and how they let us infer that his left arm is from Devimon simply from the look he gave it alongside the words "Old Friend."

I think this episode was pretty good. It was nice to return to the plot after several filler episodes. The whole plot of Taichi, Yamato, Takeru and their Digimon being sucked by Sephirotmon was interesting. It was interesting to learn Devimon was the dark half of Angemon. Seeing Devimon's shadow attempt to corrupt Angemon again was creepy. The MagnaAngemon evolution was really earned and good. It was interesting to see MagnaAngemon's dark arm showing he will always carry that darkness with him.

All the background stuff for Angemon and Devimon was either stuff that simply doesn't matter at this point, or was 'mostly' covered.

I disagree. Even though it has been a long while since Devimon was defeated, I liked to learn he was Angemon's dark half. I also think it was a good setup for Angemon's evolution.
