I can’t say I find it too much of a big deal if they did get a new cast in.

It’s not as if the original dub voice actors could have done anything to improve on the weak writing, Taichi-centricness, and paper-thin characterisation that plagued the reboot. The same way they didn’t fix any of the problems I had with Tri’s original narrative.

It’s only real selling point was the fight scenes and music anyway. The remainder is just nostalgia.

Heck, whoever voices Taichi would only need to rattle off a dozen or so stock phrases and be done for the rest of the series. :p
The performer playing TK will only have to say two words: “Matt!” and “Patamon!”

I'd like to see a dub but I'd also like to see Appmon be dubbed too. But let's hope if they have a new cast, that they actually sound good.

Surprised so many here are down for a new cast. Frankly, for me, having the original cast reprise their roles was just about the only selling point for me to even watch an Adventure 2020 dub.

On the other hand, I guess it's not a huge deal. Frankly, the characters are so different than their original 1999 incarnations anyway, it wouldn't even feel like they're reprising their roles as much as playing basically new characters.

I guess whatever gets Digimon more brand recognition in the US. Eh.

Tbf though if this reboot is meant to last 20 years too (with future sequels), then new actors in their 20s/30s would be important so they can always reprise their roles. We've seen recent passings away and actors like mona Marshall are 74. How much longer could she do izzy? She probably wouldn't be doing voice acting if she's still alive in 2042 at age 94 with reboot sequels.

I honestly wouldn't a lot of stock in this.

For one thing, the English dub of Xros Wars wasn't even finished and App Monsters would be on the dub docket before the reboot anyway which already doesn't help the likelihood of this happening.

Second and more problematically though is the licensing issue. Saban Brands sold most of their library to Hasbro, including Glitter Force and Power Rangers despite and PreCure being a Bandai franchise and PR belonging to Bandai originally.

While Toei Animation Inc should have the license, that Hasbro now partially owns Glitter Force and wholly owns Power Rangers makes it a little more questionable whether or not this is actually true.
None of this has anything to do with the likelihood of Adventure: being dubbed. They're never going to go back and finish dubbing Xros Wars as the show is several years old and most of the voice cast from that dub has long moved onto other things. We already know Toei tried to get a TV deal for Appmon and it failed to emerge. Appmon in general wasn't that big of a seller for Toei so they've probably already moved on from Appmon. Saban Brands did not sell Precure to Hasbro. Saban's rights to Precure expired years before Saban sold their shows to Hasbro and the rights to Precure reverted back to Toei hence why Crunchyroll is now able to buy the streaming rights for new seasons. Saban's rights to Digimon also expired years ago after Fusion finished it's run and Cinedigm bought the rights to the first six seasons. Then the Cinedigms DVDs expired and I believe the rights have reverted back to Toei and the first four seasons are now on Hulu. Hasbro owning Power Rangers doesn't have any impact on Digimon as they're two seperate shows and the rights to Digimon reverted back to Toei and Shout Factory has the Tri movies and Kizuna and Crunchyroll has Adventure: and Ghost Game directly through Toei.

You also missed the part where I said that the dubbing license may have ended up in the hands of Hasbro like how Glitter Force fell into their hands despite Bandai owning Precure.
Hasbro does not own Digimon or Precure. Those rights reverted back to Toei long before the Hasbro buy out. If Hasbro were to dub Adventure: they would have to negotiate a brand new deal with Toei for the rights. If Adventure: gets dubbed, the more likely scenario will be Crunchyroll will have the rights and they will contract out either Studiopolis who dubbed the Tri and Kizuna movies or some other LA studio. And I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the style of the Tri dubs where maybe they keep the dub names out of tradition and the branding of the card game but the dub is uncut with a faithful translation and it has all the original music and it would probably be streamed on Cruchyroll.

Dude, not only did multiple, I repeat multiple, news outlets state in no uncertain terms that Glitter Force as a brand is owned by Hasbro but Hasbro has a literal site for it so your claim that the rights reverted to Toei is flat out wrong as at best Toei co-owns it with Hasbro.

I always wonder who owns the rights to Digimon series after Saban? Anyway I wonder if they going to kept Japanese soundtrack or change like they did with previous dub. I was expecting the idea of them having new cast for Adventure 2020.

1: He didn’t say Glitter Force, though. Not once. He said Precure. Precure and Glitter Force, like Power Rangers and Super Sentai, are separate legal entities. Based on the fact that Crunchyroll is streaming the newer Precure seasons, he’s almost certainly right that the rights to ‘Precure’ are back with Toei, and Hasbro’s rights to ‘Glitter Force’ only cover the two dubbed seasons, as opposed to the license to Power Rangers, which clearly does cover further seasons of Super Sentai (or they renegotiated a new deal).

2: He literally outlined what we know of the rights to various Digimon seasons so far. The simple fact that Kizuna was dubbed post-Saban’s sale shows that, at the very least, the rights to Digimon works post-Fusion remain with Toei. As he said, Toei also did try and get a deal for Appmon, and continue to market and release the earlier seasons (or at least Adventure-Frontier). There has not been one shred of evidence that Hasbro owns Digimon, and a whole lot of evidence that Saban lost the rights to it before the sale to Hasbro - which is probably what happened with Precure as well.

@The Chaos Entity and I likewise never once said Hasbro got PreCure from Saban yet he seemed to be assuming otherwise when he tried to ‘correct’ me on this.

I am well aware that Precure and Glitter Force are separate entities legally, that’s why Glitter Force as brand was created to begin with: Toei could not legally make an English dub under the Pretty Cure name because of 4Kids, at least that was my understanding of the situation.

For this reason, I am going to assume that Crunchyroll is streaming the original Japanese Pretty Cure with English subtitles since that’s the only thing they are legally allowed to do unless they either get the Pretty Cure name back from 4K Media or negotiate with Hasbro to make further dubs under the Glitter Force name.

Regarding the claim that there is no evidence of Hasbro owning Digimon, the multiple copyright strikes against Digimon anime content by Hasbro would imply otherwise since they were also doing this with Glitter Force (which PreCure fans didn’t understand because they are conflating PreCure with Glitter Force).

I also feel it pertinent to note that Xros Wars Digimon weren’t allowed to used in the English version of Digimon Masters until well after Saban purportedly lost the rights to Fusion.

Appmon onward, fair enough.

Very cool, I personally have not been interested in watching anything Digimon related dubbed in English for a very long time but it’s good to see Digimon making its way back to the west for those who do enjoy it. My guess is this will probably air on a streaming service like most new shows do now a days.

also new cast means Digimon for a new audience & new generation.

Well who is going to replace Mimi's dub voice since Sampler is gone
Kate Higgins, from Last Evolution Kizuna, I imagine.

Regarding this announcement... Mona Marshall is 74 right now, but if June Foray is any indication, she might be able to pull Izzy off. I'm sure Colleen Villard/O'Shaughnessy/whatever her last name is would love to return, but her Instagram says no. If this is a union job, Lara Jill Miller might be able to return as Kari. Wendee Lee is coming up on 62, so her as T.K. would be a possibility.

I could see Robbie Daymond coming back as Joe (RIP Michael Lindsay). They'd have to recast Matt (since Vic Mignogna and Nicolas Roye are out).

I feel similar.
Overall I'm disappointed, but I guess it can't be helped.
Hopefully some of the Digimon at least reprise their roles.

Wait, did Nick Roye do something? why couldn't he be young Matt? He did Mikey Kudo

I don't think he did anything. I just haven't heard too much about him since Xros Wars and Kizuna. If anything, Michael Reisz should come back.

Was just, putting him with Vic was a ???

No reason he couldn't do 10 year old reboot Matt other than it'd be weird to do 22 year old Matt in Kizuna (and 25+ year old Matt in the 02 movie maybe?) but I'm sure he could pull it off Mikey in Fusion and Matt in Kizuna sound nothing alike despite being the same actor

He's still active. Offhand he has played Leif for Fire Emblem Heroes as recently as September of last year so he should be available.

I do wonder if the Adventure: dub might also possibly be an Ocean dub as Toei used Ocean for their dub of World Trigger and there are rumors about Dragon Quest being dubbed by Ocean.

I sure hope the OG voice cast from 1999-2000 that can reprise the roles of Digimon like Jeff Nimoy who did as Tentomon, Kirk Thornton as Gabumon, Tom Fahn as Agumon and others who casted as Digimon, or they’re probably gonna be replaced. Only time will tell…

What do you people think?

A new cast makes sense considering it's a reboot. I assume the old cast will be brought back for the 02 movie.
