Likely planned for Anime Japan 2023 this weekend, a new poster for Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning has pulled up in a few different places on Weibo, baidu, and elsewhere.

The poster reveals the film will be out in Japan on October 27th.

It features a shot of Rui in a digital space, with a digital cityscape behind him. In the path before him is Daisuke and V-mon.

The text on the side says "It all started with a single wish."

The red text at the bottom says "Now, the gate to a new adventure opens."

We will likely get some more news and details once Anime Japan begins shortly.

Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning, the next Digimon movie, is the sequel to Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna.

Many previous details for the movie are here.

Update- Changed the poster to a better version thanks to Digimon Channel.

Update- A teaser trailer is here.

I'm a fan of the potential that 02 had, and still hold out some degree of hope that this will rectify some of the issues with Kizuna.

Tri had issues, but I'd rather pretend Kizuna never happened. Not the growing apart storyline, just Menoa...

With how Kizuna completely ignored the casts other than Taichi and Yamato, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get to see Armadimon and Hawkmon's Ultimates.

Imperialdramon Exaltation Mode?

I think it would make more sense to magnamon receiving a new mode than imperialdramon receiving his fourth mode

It wouldn't be 02 without it being the ever-changing Imperialdramon Jogress show! I'm kidding, but not kidding!

I never considered Magnuson getting a new form, but it would be fitting to see the Armored forms be featured more prominently, though I doubt it, as their use is obsolete with the exception of perhaps Magnamon.

Magnamon -Bond of Noodles.
I really hope they don't give them Bond Forms. Not because I want it to be a Matt and Tai exclusive, but... they would have had the opportunity to be featured in the Neverland drama, but weren't. Honestly, I'm still confused why they didn't get more involved via Armored forms. That appears to be a means to circumvent the digital clockwork. It functions independently of the partner, if 02 lore is applied consistently in a coherent manner.

Great poster! I'm so excited! I hope it's a Kizuna quality story and not aaaanything like the Tri!

At least we have a date now. ...We didn't have it yet did we? But this should be interesting. I wonder if this is the end and if they'll wrap everything up.

Definitely an interesting vibe from the poster. I wonder if Rui is some kind of digital being; it's an underexplored area in the franchise. October 27th is pretty soon! Might just hold out for a dub like I did with Kizuna, but we'll see...

It'd be interesting if this continuity kept going and we see the digidestined in their 30s and we start to actually get to know their kids

As interesting as that would be, it would place him in the same category as Gennai, right?

I have mixed feelings about the premise of the film. If he's the first person to ever be partnered to a digimon, doesn't that come into conflict with Maki and Co.? Not that I want to beat a dead horse, but I personally don't want them dealing with the origins of the digital world, and partnerships within the Adventure continuity given how Tri and Kizuna handled the subject. What was once "unique" to our core crew of 8/9 (? If we count Ken!), came to be undermined by Menoa, Maiko etc. Maki and Co. being the exception, because Adventure 01 acknowledged a previous crew of Chosen Children, but partners being common prior to the events of the Omnimon web event seems to undermine everything about the series. Why the Chosen Children from Japan vs. the sprinkling of partnered children the world over that were their contemporaries? Regarding the latter, I mean those figures which are shown to have such a significant impact on the story of Adventure from outside Japan.

There's actually an explanation for there being Chosen Children prior to Taichi and the others. An interview with the series director Hiroyuki Kakudou (see here) revealed that the number of Chosen Children had been doubling every year, and that there were 16 total Chosen Children in 1999. Working backwards, there had to have been 8 in 1998, 4 in 1997, 2 in 1996, and 1 in 1995. We can assume Rui was the original in 1995, with the other 7 logically being Wallace, Menoa (who we know had to have met Morphomon in 1997), & Maki's group of 5.

There are two big contradictions to this though. Wallace is said to have gotten his Partners 7 years prior to 2002, which should be 1995, but that would contradict there only supposed to be 1 Chosen Child that year. The other being that the Maki and Daigo's fight against the Dark Masters had to have taken place in 1998, and in the flashback they look to be the same age as Taichi, but they are both clearly older than Taichi in tri.

Out of universe, the Hurricane Touchdown and tri. were not overseen by Kakudou, so there were bound to be some contradictions. In universe, I've got a headcanon for the Maki situation, and as for Wallace, maybe he didn't get his Digivice, and thus actually become a Chosen Child, until 1996?

This is the problem I have with these retroactively added elements of Digimon lore.

To me, Maki and Co., along with Taichi and Co. are unique amongst Digidestined. The former, because their partners would go on to become the sovereigns and establish the legacy that Tai and Co. would inherit as per the original canon, and the latter given their crests, defeat of the Dark Masters etc. I designate this collective as Chosen Children™️ proper (along with Ken) with others just being children partnered to digimon. But that's going to venture off into headcanon territory. Shifting things back a bit, Oikawa, and Cody's father had partners (or at least Oikawa did?) that they never met, though they interacted with digimon and the digital world in its early phases. If they didn't merit physically having partners, why did Menoa, Maiko, and Wallace have them? We're not even scratching the surface when it comes to Ryo (or some kid who looks like Ryo...as featured in Ken's pre-02 adventure flashbacks. Was Ryo the one to wield Miracles or Destiny? Not that those are virtues, just saying.). I honestly just find it all very confusing and hope that this film doesn't add to that.
