It's been a bit of a wait, but thanks to photos of a promo poster we finally have our first images of the 4th Digimon Card Game booster set, Great Legend.

The main portion of the promo shows what appears to be the main card art for Agnimon, WarGreymon, RiseGreymon, and VictoryGreymon, each in heroic action poses. Behind them you can see a faded AncientGreymon in an energy type silhouette.

And below that we get a look at our first 4 cards for the set: Vritramon, Garmmon, Meicoomon, and NeoDevimon.

I’m glad there do actually appear to at least be a semi-decent selection of Hybrid Digimon in this set, but on the other hand... they are treating the beast spirit ones as level 4. I was really hoping this recent trend of making the human spirit ones child equivalents and the beast spirit ones adult equivalents would end.

Took the words out of my mouth. It seems like such a weird waste when Flamon and Strabimon exist, and many of the other spirits have really good stand-in child forms, and how the human/beast spirits were always shown as interchangeable via "slide evolution" which implied they were more or less equal in some regard. Heck, this could have even been a perfect opportunity to introduce "proper" Flamon-esque child forms for the other elements. Previous card games never shied away from introducing brand new Digimon, so it would be nice if this one did as well.

That said, it's nice regardless to see Frontier's crew standing shoulder to shoulder with the more conventional Digimon. Now hopefully we'll see some (hopefully non-gimmicky) Armor and Xros representation before long.

Both Vritramon's and Garmmon's effects allow them to evolve from a Tamer of their respective color as if the Tamer was a Lv.3 Digimon of that color.

This is going beyond anything that the previous TCGs have done. They're actually incorporating Frontier's human-transformation gimmick in a way that makes sense.

Also, do I spy Gogmamon in Vritramon's artwork? Wasn't expecting to see one of the new 'mon.

More non Greymon's there than I was expecting (maybe Ordinemon will come with Meicoomon?) would be nice to get both of Meicoomon's lines and maybe even that nameless Meicoomon Rookie they had on the website...

My fears have been realised, KendoGarurumon and BurningGreymon are Champion so I guess that means that Agunimon and Lobomon will be nerfed to Rookie like Duskmon before and we wont see Flamemon and Agunimon. (I guess they could have both Human and Beast as Champion?)

As'Maria's artworks in the cover. Wow. I hope my two favorite illustrators in this new card game get many cards to contribute too.

The card effects states a Tamer Card can be used as a Lv. 3 Digimon for evolving into them, so perhaps the Human Spirits will also be Lv.4?

Excited to the possible emperorgreymon, magnagaruru, ancientgaruru, rasielmon and donedevimon.

Really dissapointed with the beasts treated as adults... Thats just to use beowolf and Alda as perfects... What a stupid idea, what about gigasmon or sephirotmon? Are they making new evolutions for them? Are they never appearing in the card game? I would be so mad if they select random perfects like gogmamon or wisemon between the spirits and the ancients. I mean, there are not better pre evolutions for the ancients than the beast spirits.

Gorgeous poster, loving that Agnimon is front and centre with AncientGreymon looming over the four giving Frontier a real sense of importance. There's also a nice variety of Digimon so far with qt Meicoomon and the awesome NeoDevimon.

In regards to the elephant in the room, just because the Beast Spirits are LV4 doesn't automatically guarantee the Human Spirits will be LV3. I will hold out hope that because the creators are being faithful to the series by incorporating the "humans becoming Digimon" mechanism into the game, they'll make the Human Spirits LV4 too and maybe even make Slide Evolution possible.

That AncientGreymon shot is great.

Hopefully it'll get its own card.

Susanoomon will likely be Level 7 like Omegamon or Ragnalordmon so let's hope the Human Spirits will also be Level 4. Because I want to see Flamon and Strabimon so bad.

While I think it's neat conceptually that they're capturing the Spirits' whole transformation gimmick by allowing you to use a Tamer of the appropriate color as a Lv3 Evolution Source, I do have concerns on how good this'll be in practice.

Assuming I'm understanding this correctly, based on the wording of Vritramon and Garmmon, they're specifically *evolving* from your Tamers, meaning they'd absorb whatever Tamer you use as part of their stack. The problem with this is just that A., all Tamers have no Inheritable Effects by design, so unless we get the Frontier Kids as the first Tamers with Inheritable Skills you're effectively just using a vanilla that can't even gain access to Lv2 Inheritable Skills, and B., more importantly, your Tamer stops granting it's on-field benefit once it ends up as material. Essentially, there needs to either be a Tamer with an Inheritable Effect or a Digimon with a Skill that grants benefit if a Tamer is an Evolution Source for this gimmick to really have incentive over just playing a regular Lv3 vanilla.

I'm also just kinda worried about how this'll go in terms of Level execution. Human and Beast both being Lv4 would make sense to me given how Slide Evolution is a thing and they're generally treated as rough equivalents to each other, but the problem is that only the protagonists have access to a theoretical Lv4 Human/Beast>Lv5 Fusion Spirit>Lv6 Ancient/Transcendent form. The Spirits of Earth, Water, Steel and Wood don't have a great Lv5 as a stepping stone to their Ancient equivalent, so unless they make the Human Spirits Lv4 and the Beast Spirits Lv5 for those four, it's gonna end up janky in my opinion.

TL;DR, I'm a bit nervous at how well the Hybrids will work in practice from a gameplay perspective, but I'm willing to wait until the rest of the set is revealed before judging that.

okay so it's best case Greymon scenario where other colors than red have new cards and it's not just greymon related stuff

I forgot to mention, but it's interesting that the Beast Spirit Digimon seen here still don't have proper "Levels" and instead retain their "Hybrid" classification unlike the Xros Wars Digimon that recently got reclassified as of late.

Makes me wonder if we'll be getting effects that specifically target Hybrid Digimon because of that.

The entire "Level X" system started because the original card game didn't want to officially lump Armor with Adult, but they totally worked the same way as Adults did - so they just said that both were "Level 4" and came from "Level 3". The Frontier Digimon do the same thing.

i love the idea that the hybrids can be played off tamer cards it makes perfect sense... It'd also be fun (but pointless) if they had an affect that could allow you to tag out for the other type.

Like if Vritra had an effect of not only being able to evolve from a Red Tamer but also tag out with Agnimon... of course this would only be useful if tagging had some sort of bonus or if they had inheritable effects where ok you drew Agnimon but Vritra had a better inheritble effect being able to swap from Agni>vritra then go to alda.. .also if both H andB hybrids are treated as adults then there woudln't be much reason to run both so either H spirits counts as lv 3 giving you 2 options to get out onto the field OR Human spirits might get inheritable effects but lower power while beast spirits are high powers with no inheritble effects.

Also i'm kinda hoping that maybe i know its like a 1 in a million chance but id love to see the meicoomon child get a proper name via the card game.

Also yeah i mean right now the stuff like Adult, Hybrid etc.. feels more like flavor text. I know someone sorta groaned about how the english version called Biyomon by the official english category of "bird digimon" instead of "Chick digimon" or the other way around. I mean i don't know if any cards target a specific category "Search your deck for a Cyborg digimon and add it to your hand" or something SO for now its just sorta flavor text/bonus info. I can see cards target ting level 4 for example... but ican also see stuff targeting Adult or Hybrid way before anything that targets a specific "type"

Search your deck for a level _- sure
Search your deck for a Hybrid- sure
Search your deck for a Bird Digimon- i mean MAYBE but its much less likely.

Wouldn't be the first time. Hyper Colosseum used to be the main way new Digimon got introduced for a notable amount of time, and while the current game is taking time to run through the backlog first, it's going to start doing that eventually.
