It's March 3rd in Japan, so it's the 22nd anniversary of Digimon Adventure 02: Revenge of Diablomon, which came out in 2001.

Various bits below have been reused from prior anniversary articles.

The film acted as a general 'finale film' to Adventure and 02, acting as a direct sequel to Children's War Game with the return of Diablomon and Omegamon.

Acting not only as a finale to the first few years of the anime in Japan, the movie was also the first time the franchise came back in the west, airing on August 5th, 2005 on Toon Disney, with most of the original English dub cast returning.

Hosoda wasn't involved with this one, but it uses many things fans would recognize from not just War Game, but even the first Adventure movie, also directed by Hosoda.

Prior to tri. it was generally treated as the last story/character based elements we got with the Adventure and 02 characters (minus a cameo in Hunters), and it was the last proper appearance of all the 02 kids and Digimon until Kizuna. (The movie was released before the finale of 02, but with the Toei Anime Fair format, later home video releases, the TV release in the west, a good percentage of people wouldn't have likely seen it until 'after' 02 ended.)

A couple years ago for the 20th anniversary we also got some new social media art of the final battle.

Revenge of Diablomon worked as a nice goodbye, despite quite a few flaws, at least until things picked up quite a bit later.

And soon we'll get a new movie featuring the kids...

After the release of the movie as part of a larger Digimon movie Blu-ray Box, the movies were released in a single! Those are still available: (affiliate links)

Revenge of Diablomon was also included in the Digimon Adventure 1999-2001 Blu-ray box.

It's March 2nd, so it's the 21st anniversary of Digimon Tamers: Runaway Digimon Express, which came out in 2002.

Various bits below have been used in the past.

Not quite as much a goodbye for the Tamers crew as Diablomon was for the Adventure and 02 teams. And often treated more as a 'welcome back' after the goodbyes in the finale... The movie told a little bit of a different story that is still generally well regarded and is able to detail a few things that didn't show up in the television series.

The dub cast also returned when this ended up coming out in 2005 in the west, although it ended up being scheduled and aired 'before' the first Tamers movie on Toon Disney.

While it aired before Tamers ended (and various characters also appeared in Hunters), it's generally treated as the 'last' Tamers animation we've gotten thus far.

Runaway Digimon Express worked as a relatively nice goodbye to Tamers when originally released.

To celebrate the 20th last year...

After the release of the movie as part of a larger Digimon movie Blu-ray Box, the movie was released in a duo with the other film from Tamers! Those are still available: (affiliate links)

Can't belive Marc would let it slip such a obvious typo. Clearly you meant revenge of diablomon & Explosion of Digimon Express
