Achillesmon & Option Card Lónkhē Adistakto Preview & Clean Packaging for Booster Set 10

The Digimon Card Game Twitter has updated with a card preview from Booster Set 10 Xros Encounter. This time it's Achillesmon & option card Lónkhē Adistakto!

Achillesmon gets some really nice art, lots of detail, and it looks really nice. Lónkhē Adistakto features Achillesmon throwing his spear, and there is some nice perspective happening in the image.

The Booster Set 10 Xros Encounter page was updated awhile ago on the Card Game website, with a preview of the packaging, which features Shoutmon x5.

We've seen the card packaging before, but this is a cleaner one.

So that's why Pulsemon was here. This art is pretty badass. Effect wise he's a decent defensive Digimon. His option card is very similar to Gaia Force though there's some times it won't be. Mostly against lv7s

Guess I called it Pulsemon's inclusion does mean more Pulsemon evos.

Not sure, if they'll do more for this set, but Runnermon could be the missing Lv. 4 in green.

I guessed it would be Achillesmon since he's usually associated with Runnermon (who I agree will also be in the set) and Pulsemon's card had him speeding around in the artwork. I'm glad to finally get him in the TCG as he's one of my favorites of the Pulsemon lines and was even the first Mega I trained up, and both cards look great. It's always nice to see Digimon in different poses and Achillesmon benefits from it since he gets to show off his javelin skills.

the artist for the Digimon card and the artist for the Option card gave Achillesmon helmets that don't quite match up in a few areas.
It's interesting when that happens. I remember there were a lot of areas that didn't match up when comparing Mastemon's first Digimon card and Option card

Why those helmets have cracks on different areas?! Jeez.

Interesting Achillesmon's glowing eyes are pretty unique? Never show the normal eyes? C'mon

I'd say Achillesmon favors cats more. Digimon tends to prefer shorter and stouter snouts for their felines and longer and more slender ones for their canines, and Achillesmon favors those like Leomon more than WereGarurumon. It's possible there's some mix and matching, but I feel the base animal is supposed to be a big cat of some sort.

Achillesmon's athletic figure evokes the imagery of a black panther (to be specific, a black jaguar) more than anything else, especially with the emphasis on speed. Jaguars are among the next fastest felines behind the cheetah, while boasting much more strength than a cheetah.

Stripes, like the ones on Achillesmon's shoulders, also tend to be associated more as a feline trait (e.g. tigers) than a canine trait.

Not really when dog Digimon like Terriermon, (Saint)Galgomon, Caturamon, Gazimon, Madomon and Komondomon exists, all of them have short or no snout at all.

Komondomon's snout is very distinct from either group, Terriermon is clearly stylized as it's commonly mistaken for a rabbit like its counterpart and that extend to the rest of his line, Gazimon is a hodgepodge of different animals, and Caturamon is based on Shisas which are hybrids of lions and dogs rather than one or the other. Regardless, it still doesn't change the fact that generally the design philosophy of Digimon has shorter and stouter snouts like Achillesmon favored more by feline-like Digimon then canine-like ones, as it's more common to find it on many examples of the former then the latter.

The 'species' of a prior evolution is not proof that the 'species' of a later stage is the same (e.g. Nyaromon>Plotmon>Tailmon; Wanyamon>Gaomon).

That's also assuming that Runnermon is even a canine.
It has a slightly longer snout, yes, but nowhere close to Dobermon or Fangmon. It's still within the limits of feline snouts; heck, I think DinoTigermon has a longer snout. It just appears much longer due to the flattened ears and the pointed mask.
The white body and black stripes are evocative of white tigers. That long lithe tail is also very feline. How its profile specifically mentions keeping its footing on mountainous or swamp areas also brings up the image of mountain lions or jungle cats.

There is also still the whole athletic theme of Achillesmon. Big cats are the epitome of strength, speed, and agility. As predators, wolves are naturally fit themselves, but not on the level of a tiger or a jaguar. They're more about pack hunting, rather than individual prowess.
There's also the 'elephant in the room' that Achillesmon's design is based on black athletes. Partly thanks to the Marvel hero (among other things), that's another element that suggests the imagery of 'black panthers' (something to note, American comic heroes have been the inspiration for a few Digimon before, though I don't think Achillesmon is directly based on the hero Black Panther specifically).

I would like to add to the conversation that Apollomon has a long snout and no whiskers.

It doesn't really prove any point, I just think Apollomon is neat

But still, others saying Achillesmon being Black Panther/feline. I agree. It's just this design screaming out it's Black Panther.
Runnermon for me, I first thought it's thunder tiger digimon but due to the new cards came out, the more I view it as canine the more Pulsemon's new cards revealed because Runnermon's eyes didn't have slits in new cards even if it clearly have tiger stripes, tiger muscle arm/legs and tiger body... Yet... It gives off canine vibes in Garurumon style. Maybe Runnermon is really canine just because it lacked front sabertooth teeth? I really don't know. Digimon designs usually keep you guessing really lot and tend to overlook even tiniest details.

Achillesmon is clearly 100% Black Panther even if Duftmon already got one.
