Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions was a bit new, but it felt like time to go to something from days of long ago...

Voltron!

Nothing that most people would find objectionable in this one

Voltron is... Voltron. It's a classic of old dubs for a reason.

The entire series can be watched on the following officially: (some are free, others are paid subscription)
Dubbed on tubiTV
Various digital video storefronts also sell the series reasonably cheaply if it's something you think you want to buy.

This one is the first chunk of the series, 13 episodes. That's the original Voltron: Defender of the Universe, often subtitled 'Lion Force' nowadays.

Voltron is about 5 space explorers who end up with robot lions that can become a giant robot. The concept is one most people would know in some form or another. Maybe it's from Voltron itself, Power Rangers, one of the more recent Voltron reboots, etc. it's an idea people just like. Robots combine into a bigger robot.

Voltron has it's space explorers fighting the evil King Zarkon, his son Prince Lotor, and numerous other old style bad guys.

Voltron to exist had multiple hits against it from the beginning. The show it was based on, Go-Lion, wasn't actually very good, and outside of it's relation to Voltron, is largely forgotten, minus that it's legend has continued on as the 'uncut' version of Voltron (although honestly, I've very rarely seen people watch Go-Lion who actually like it, it's an amazingly boring show considering it had such a good concept.) The humor seems extra in that Toei sent WEP Go-Lion by mistake because they misunderstood what show WEP asked for...

We actually did Go-Lion in the last leadup, and discussion on both the forum and the chatroom was often based on how it had the reputation of being 'uncut Voltron' as mentioned, and just how hard it was to get any enjoyment out of watching the show. (A few people who watched it no doubt saw Voltron up above and cringed just from remembering watching Go-Lion.)

Voltron took the source footage of Go-Lion and made something that was rather fun to watch, which has continued on via comics, 2 full reboot cartoons, and even an early CGI cartoon that acted as a direct sequel to the original series (with much of the cast even returning... plus Tim Curry.) Which is to say nothing of the fact that Voltron continued on not only via Vehicle Voltron (an adaption of Dairugger which had a number of visual and concept similarities to Go-Lion), but in a number of original extras (and a special) that were commissioned purely as 'more Voltron'.

We're only doing the first chunk of the series, but there is plenty more Voltron for those who end up liking it, or even those who discovered one of the other recent Voltrons and want to continue along from where it started.

As for Digimon connections... there aren't really any...

I've embedded a Youtube clip of the opening to the series as a preview.

Fans of anime memes will recognize any number of them that came from the opening alone.

Feel free to post as you wish in this thread. You can post as you are watching, episode by episode, when you finish. Whatever you want. Try and give it a couple days for later spoilers so people have time to try and view stuff without spoilers, while still interacting in the thread (especially if you decide to keep watching past the episode listed as the last one for the leadup.) If you watch one episode and it isn't for you, pop in to explain why. Have fun with it!

A new show/movie will go up each Sunday night (or early on Monday), but feel free to keep talking about older shows in their threads, or even watching past the listed episode.

If you want to chat in the Discord you can.

Hopefully you enjoy. Feel free to make any suggestions or ask an questions regarding the threads or the shows also.
