    Hopes for Digimon survive?

I'm sorry if there is already a thread like this about this game but I did a quick search and didn't see one.

So what are you hopes for the new Digimon survive game coming out next year (unless pushed back)?

Personally and as morbid as this might be I am hoping that the characters that can die if you mess up are or atleast include the human characters. Not just digimon ones given how it was advertised.

I also hope that all of the main characters digimon have split digivelutions not just your main character based on in game choices.

Story wise I hope that if there must be a villian then it is a human one or better yet find some way that the situation is caused by some event in nature rather than by someone on purpose.

Characters dying based on what choices you make has already been confirmed, though I'd assume the second a death happens youre no longer on the true ending route. I recall reading even the protag can die, though I assume that's a game over and you'd have to reload lol

I don't have any particular hopes for the game itself as I'm not sure what to expect.

The one thing I'm certainly hoping for is this leading to more Digimon games on the Switch.

I'm just hoping we get a good translation for once. I could deal with the translations in the CS games, but they weren't GOOD.

My main hope with Digimon Survive is that it has a good story and character development, similar to Hacker's Memory, a decent amount of Digimon and surprising choices, and being multiplatform (esp. Steam), that help Digimon videogames break the wall in the West once and for good. I mean, they need more recognition and despite having good games, Digimon is still a great unknown here.

By the way, when could we expect news on Digimon Survive? I'm kinda worried at this point...

I'm kind of hoping what little I've seen from gameplay videos is still earlier development because while the art is lovely, I saw a video of non-battle game play and it looks like a cheaply made point and click PC game. The characters in the 'overworld' are just flat models and it feels really really gross. It's been bad enough to me that Next Order and Cyber Sleuth had most 'cut scenes' playing out with the actual world pretty much grayed out with the character's models emoting side by side like I'm playing a game like Harvest Moon, but at least they had 3D models for the characters and SOME action outside emoting at each other. What I saw so far it looks like you're walking up to emoting cardboard cutouts which is makes everything feel really creepy to me.

The flat card-board cutouts kind of work in the tactics-like combat, but it still looks and feels very cheap. In fact I just realized why it feels so annoyingly bad to me. This looks like a phone game. Everything about it looks like a phone game to me. The actual Digimon Phone games have beautiful 3D models considering the hardware they run on. Were it not for the fact the teaser trailer clearly states this is a console-focused game, I'd assume that this has to be another phone game. The battle sprites themselves look very pretty and detailed but the way they're animated feels like I'm watching clips from a unlicensed third party game using the Digimon characters and brand name.

It reminds me of the Disgaea 1 Complete artstyle compared to the sprites from the original version. Sure, it LOOKS better when everything's not animating but it just feels like cheaper flipbook animation at best and slightly off stop-motion at worst. It just looks and feels cheaper and the digimon in-battle feel lifeless somehow.

Though I'll not get my hopes up. This is apparently just the 'style' this genre of game apparently has now. I'll still get the game because I'm a total digimon nerd and I crave new digimon games like a starving dog craves a plate of t-bone steak, I'm probably still gonna shudder when I 'walk up' to an NPC to talk and their cutout non-seamlessly turns to face me. I've just.. I've always hated games with flat character models in even a pseudo-3D environment, even when I was younger. Games like DOOM, the earliest Elder Scrolls games, and games like that with flat sprites that constantly face you. Though if I went now and played a game like Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall I'd still not shudder as hard as Digimon Survive makes me feel like. Because those games were produced back before 3D models were too much more than sharp angles and flat textures.

TL;DR PinkIceFox is very salty that the aesthetic of this game seems to be point and click in 3D rooms while cardboard cutouts turn to face you at all times and do combat in what feels like someone's Totally-Not-Digimon-but-Yeah-this-is-Digimon phone game someone's gonna post a screenshot of online saying 'OmG SOMEONE'S STEALING BANDAI'S IP AND CHARACTERS FOR THEIR OWN PROFIT!!1! REPORT TO THE IPHONE APPS STORE'. But she'll buy it and play it anyway out of fear they won't give us Digimon Games outside of Japan again if she doesn't.

Something I am a little concerned about is the state of the Digital World in Survive.

I've noticed that from the screenshots of the DW looking just like a darker dilapidated version of the real world and the marketing avoiding calling the partners "Digimon" instead stuff like "Mysterious Monsters" leads me to believe they might be downplaying the Sci-Fi aspects which would be a shame if that does turn out to be the case as I really enjoy that part of Digimon.

I'm certainly open to being proven wrong.
