Digimon Adventure tri. Design Works Art Book- Breakdown & Scans

    Another art book!

This time it's a look at production materials for tri. with Digimon Adventure tri. Design Works!

This art book contains a bunch of production artwork for Digimon Adventure tri.

It's a softcover book that covers Digimon Adventure tri. Part 1 and Part 2. Because it covers Part 1, that includes quite a bit of overall work for tri. in general.

A number of the images in the book have appeared elsewhere in various forms (sometimes full color, etc.)

Scanning for the book wasn't done by me. It was done by our friends at DigiSoul who kindly shared them with us. The scans in the gallery are as provided by them.

The book included a slipcover which was not scanned. The slipcover is plastic and has cutouts to make part of the book cover visible. The slipcover also has the book title and other information on it. Press images are included to show how it appeared.

Postcards were included with different art based on where it was bought from. Press images of the postcards are included.

The front cover, at the top of the article, features a drawing of Omegamon along with the familiar tri. design style. It also has a pleasant holofoil appearance.

The back cover features the same tri. style but has no artwork on it.

Onto the inside of the book!

Due to the size of the book, every page won't be thumbnailed and embedded. Instead just various samples from different sections will be included.

The first page of the art book is just the title and other information (this same information is on the slipcover.)

The index shows all 5 parts of the art book:

    01. Character & Partner Digimon 'Rookie & Champion' Design Works
    02. Digimon Design Works
    03. Prop Design Works
    04. Art Design Works
    05. 3DCG Model

The first part of the book, which is also the largest, is Character & Partner Digimon 'Rookie & Champion' Design Works. It covers all the design elements relating to the chosen children, the partner Digimon in their primary form, along with other human characters that appear in Parts 1 and 2.

It opens with a color image of the characters and their Digimon and continues on to show a bunch of design artwork. Seeing the various design elements for each character, such as shading, highlights, and even detailing on clothing and accessories they wear is really fun. I personally am always amused to see when they show the pattern on the bottom of shoes for some reason. A high point for many people will be seeing the detail put into designing the faces and expressions.

After showing off the kids and their Digimon they move on to the other human characters who show up including Daigo, Maki, The Mysterious Man, family members, and characters who appear at the school.

The second part of the book, Digimon Design Works, covers the rest of the Digimon that appear in Parts 1 and 2. It begins with the higher levels of the partner Digimon, continues on to the other handful of Digimon that appear, and finishes off with the mutated form of Meicoomon that appears at the end of Part 2.

The third part, Prop Design Works, covers the various props and elements that appear throughout tri. Beginning with the Digivice, D-3, and Taichi's goggles is probably the most obvious place to start. After that they move on to various items including phones, a bike, and Yamato's harmonica. The drawings go into enough details we even see the gummy treats Mimi gave to the Digimon in Part 1.

The fourth part, Art Design Works, shows off the various environments and backgrounds tri. takes place in. Many of the scenes have multiple images, sometimes of different angles (and a few detailed space diagrams.) These also often appear with drawings of the kids to show the depth and perspective of the spaces shown.

The fifth and final part, 3DCG Model, shows images of the 3d models used in the evolution sequences.

In addition to the Digimon themselves, we get a few images of the various digital space backgrounds.

Design Works covers the production art for tri. and looks pretty awesome. Seeing all the line art, along with detail work, simply helps to give a better appreciation of some of the work and elements that went into tri. It can almost be easy to forget just how different the tri. designs were from what people expected when they were first revealed.

Production art is always amazing to see because it's just neat seeing how everything is put together in a way that's not always quite as easy when you are looking at finalized art.

The book was available at DigiFes 2016 along with the Toei store for a limited period of time.

The scans for all the art can also be found in the gallery.

Lots of Digimon stuff is coming out soon and supporting us via our Patreon or donations would be greatly appreciated so that we can do more breakdowns and improve the site. Feel free to join us in the Discord if you want to chat about the release.

As mentioned above, thanks again to our friends at DigiSoul for the scans, along with a few other things we will be using in the future.

    More things to come!

Oh wow this is lovely stuff. I do love getting my hands on line art. It's always a wonderful feeling to have it archived.

Looks like it will make a great coloring book.
Some things look random though, I mean, is a line art for the wash bucket really necessary?

She was only in part 3.

Smart of them to only release these parts so as to not spoil anything coming up.

The angles on Omegamon's head are cool.

I'm a sucker for good mecha art.
It's all part of the mystery or whatever.
