Thread: Turner Has Licensed Appmon In Various Countries

Turner Has Licensed Appmon In Various Countries

Some Appmon licensing news, and this one appears big!

Toei Europe has posted news announcing that Turner has licensed Appmon.

They don't make clear if this is just for broadcast (sublicensing it from someone else) or if Turner has fully licensed and plans to deal with merchandising, etc., but they do mention they expect Appmon to be broadcast in at least 42 countries.

Minus France, where Appmon is currently airing, no other countries are mentioned (although they do mention French speaking territories in Europe and Africa.)

The overall English text they use is a bit choppy, but they refer to 39 episodes that are 26 minutes in length. The reason (and accuracy) for this is unknown. It could be a mistake, they could be editing the show down, or they may be splitting it into multiple seasons and only committed to a certain amount thus far.

Appmon ran for 52 episodes, and thus far there has been no reporting of episodes being edited down in France in a way that would reduce episode count (the series has also begun in Hong Kong.)

In France Appmon is aired on Boing, a channel owned by Turner's French division.

While the US isn't mentioned, if Turner holds rights for the series in the US, the most logical place to guess for it to end up would be Cartoon Network.

Hopefully more details, for more countries and languages, come sooner rather than later for Appmon.

We're done our own translation of the news from Toei Europe:
APPMON KICKS OFF ON TV SCREENS!
APPMON, the latest series from Toei Animation, will be broadcast soon in French speaking territories (mainly in Europe and Africa). TURNER has acquired the rights for the 8th series of the famous Digimon franchise. The 39 episodes, 26 minutes in length, will be broadcast in over 42 countries. The series first launched on Boing back on October 23rd, and new episodes have been released since then.

Here is the full text of the news in English, as provided by Toei Europe (for comparison.) As mentioned above, the translation they did to English is a bit choppy:
LAST PRODUCTION APPMON LANDS ON SCREENS !
APPMON, the last production of Toei Animation, will be on air shortly in all French speaking territories (mainly Europe and Africa). TURNER acquired the rights for 8th section of the notorious Digimon franchise; the 39 x 26 min episodes will be broadcasted in as many as 42 countries. The series has first been launched on Boing on October 23rd, and new episodes keep on coming out since.

Update- Cleaned up a few details above, including adding our own translation of the French text thanks to shin. We've also confirmed their translation seems to be wrong in regards to number of countries. The English and French text as provided by Toei seems to disagree on if it's 'as many as 42 countries' or 'at least 42 countries.'

We believe the original was the French text, so a few bits above have been tweaked to match that.

Turner owns Cartoon Network. If they are licensing it, it seems likely they'd want to put it on their own network.

Personally, I would be concerned about it being put on Cartoon Network at least in the U.S. because how much they put Teen Titan Go on that it drowns out other shows.

If Appmon is on Cartoon Network that would probably be on Saturday mornings. Since Pokemon broadcast has moved to Disney, maybe they are looking for something to replace that.

Maybe they count adventure 02 and Xros Hunter as separate series?

    1 adventure
    2 02
    3Tamers
    4 Frontier
    5 Savers
    6 Xros War
    7 Xros Hunter
    8 Appmon

    It fit at least.

Toei has pretty consistently treated Hunters as part of Xros Wars for a very long time, including in various places for the 20th anniversary.

    Realistically it's...

    Adventure
    02
    Tamers
    Frontier
    Savers
    Xros/Hunters
    tri.
    Appmon

They've treated Hunters as a third 'arc' of Xros going back to when Hunters originally ran.

I really hope Turner doesn't edit or cut out, or combine episodes, to create a shorter series, because it sounds like that happening.

That is a jump considering just how little information we actually have.
