Digimon Adventure, Never-Localized Manhua Adaptation (Synopsis & Lots of Pictures)

A while back there was a thread about the discovery of several Digimon manhua previously unknown in the West. I managed to get my hands on a complete four-volume set of one of them, an adaptation of Digimon Adventure by Lu Shui Shi, which differs considerably from the anime. I've taken a lot of pictures, which you can download at the link below. Art from the front and back covers is in there, as well as all the chapter title pages and various pages/panels that seemed prominent, interesting, or amusing.

    Here's the link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/c68d6a...ure+Manhua.zip

I've also written up a long synopsis of the manhua, and I'd be very interested in hearing what you guys think of how the author handled the material. I don't read Chinese, of course, but it wasn't too difficult to tell what the characters are talking about based on context and some minor translation. Let me know if you have any questions, or requests to see things mentioned in the synopsis that I forgot to photograph. Here's a link to other things I've translated and/or taken photos of: https://withthewill.net/threads/1309...tions-and-Pics

Stage 1: Birth of a Strange World!!
The manhua opens with the same weird weather around the world that was mentioned in the anime. We then go to Taichi, who is visiting Hikari in the hospital to bring her a Digimon v-pet. Then he hurries off to the D-1 Tournament, where the other six kids already are.

An overdressed bald dude creeps on Mimi (from what little translating I did he’s presenting himself as some kind of talent scout), but Yamato intervenes and scares him off.

The weather starts to turn as Taichi arrives. He runs into Yamato, and they have the first of their many arguments. Soon Taichi is selected as the first contestant, and he goes up against Miyamoto Miyoko, a tan girl with “twin-tails” and heart-themed clothing. The boy announcing the tournament has them plug their v-pets into a machine that puts their Digimon up on a screen. It’s Taichi’s Greymon vs. Miyoko’s Piccolomon.

In the middle of the fight, it starts to snow and everything in the building goes dark. Sora opens a door and the seven kids find that the building has changed, everyone else has disappeared, and there’s a forest outside. They see a swarm of Black Gears in the sky that scatter in various directions. Back in the building, Taichi meets Koromon. Koromon introduces himself to everyone, and then suddenly a Flymon comes crashing through the wall.

    Stage 2: Incredible Transformation!!
Taichi grabs his v-pet, and it turns into a Digivice. Flymon attacks Taichi, Koromon defends him, and then everyone runs. They seem to get away from Flymon, after which they discover that everyone now has a Digivice. Flymon reappears, grabs Mimi, and threatens her. The other partner Digimon appear and drive Flymon off with their bubbles. Yamato breaks Mimi’s fall, and the Digimon introduce themselves to their partners. Flymon soon returns with a swarm of other Flymon. The partners fight as best they can and eventually evolve to Child level, driving off the swarm. While the kids celebrate (and Taichi and Yamato have another argument), Devimon spies on them through a mirror.

Stage 3: Another Combat Power Upgrade!! Greymon!!
The kids and their Digimon take a break to eat snacks on a cliffside. A pair of Monochromon show up and start fighting, so everyone gets out of the way by climbing atop a rock ledge overlooking the cliff. Then a third, much larger Monochromon shows up with a Black Gear embedded in its back. It sends the other Monochromon running and then attacks the kids. Most of them fall off the cliff, but are saved by Gomamon’s Marching Fishes. Taichi and Agumon, however, hang on to the cliff and manage to climb back up. Monochromon attacks them, and they get help from the flying partner Digimon. Agumon evolves to Greymon and destroys the Black Gear, but now the kids are separated. The rest of the Chosen Children camp out by a lake while Taichi and Agumon, still accompanied by Piyomon, hike to catch up with them. Along the way he hears the ringing of a cell phone, picks it up, and receives a mystery voice message.

That night, Takeru sees a mirage of his mother out on the lake, and falls in. Seadramon attacks him while Yamato and Gabumon stand on the shore.

Stage 4: The Blue Wolf’s Roar!! Garurumon!!
Taichi sees what’s happening at the lake from a distance with his telescope. Gabumon and Patamon distract Seadramon while Yamato jumps into the lake to rescue Takeru. With help from Gomamon, he succeeds in getting Takeru back to shore, but is grabbed by Seadramon’s tail. Taichi and his party reunite with the others and join in the fight, but Agumon is too tired to be much help. Gabumon evolves to Garurumon, frees Yamato, and defeats Seadramon. After the battle, Takeru tells everyone about seeing his mom. Everyone goes to bed, but then they wake up when the cell phone Taichi found rings again. Apparently it’s Gennai on the other end. After the call ends, they apparently go in search of him. On the horizon, Meramon watches them from a volcanic, chimney-like rock formation atop Outlook Mountain.

Stage 5: Fight Fire with Fire!! Birdramon!!
The Chosen Children are crossing Gear Savanna. Sora and Piyomon share some relationship-building moments.

While they head for what seems to be a village, a Flymon flies too close to Outlook Mountain and is killed by Meramon.

The kids arrive at the miniature village, but it seems abandoned. When they check the well, flames shoot out of it. A Monochromon also shows up and collapses from thirst. A Pyocomon appears and tells them that all of the village’s Pyocomon residents are living in a cave nearby collecting water dripping from stalactites. They point out Outlook Mountain and mention Meramon. So the Chosen Children decide to climb the mountain and confront Meramon. He fights them and grows because of their attacks, leading Piyomon to evolve to Birdramon. She’s hit by Burning Fist and falls into the crater, but then rises and destroys Meramon’s Black Gear with Meteor Wing. They talk to Meramon afterwards, and he recalls being attacked by Devimon.

Some time later, the kids have left the desert behind them and found Factorial Town. Something happens on Koshiro’s laptop as they approach it, and he falls down a trapdoor into an underground room. He and his laptop are alright, but there are Numemon watching him from a hole in the wall.

Stage 6: Hotline Burst – Kabuterimon!!
Tentomon flies down the trapdoor after Koshiro. Koshiro, meanwhile, meets the Numemon and runs when they start throwing poop. Tentomon arrives and zaps one, but there are too many to fight and he and Koshiro have to keep running. Then the Numemon throw a giant turd that they manage to duck, and it hits a Kuwagamon and pisses it off.

By now the other Chosen Children have entered the factory and split into pairs. Taichi leans against a button accidentally, which causes a crane to drop a metal crate from above. It almost crushes Sora, but Andromon catches it. So they say hello to Andromon, but then he takes a Black Gear in the back, and attacks Sora, beating up Greymon and Birdramon.

Koshiro and Tentomon escape from the Kuwagamon through a narrow passage and wind up inside a giant battery, where Koshiro figures out that the writing on the wall controls the factory’s power. He and Tentomon exit the battery and meet Jou and Mimi, but Kuwagamon bursts up through the floor. Koshiro uses his laptop to evolve Tentomon to Kabuterimon, who starts beating on Kuwagamon.

    Stage 7: Toy Town’s Punishment
Andromon is about to kill Taichi and Sora with Spiral Sword, but Garurumon arrives and snatches them out of the way. Then Andromon goes back to kicking ass. He targets Takeru, but gets interrupted when Kabuterimon blasts Kuwagamon into him through a wall. He starts to get up, but Garurumon hits him with Foxfire and removes the Black Gear. Afterwards he shows them the way out of the factory through the sewers. They meet the Numemon again and escape into the sunlight. They’re now on a cliff surrounding a lake with a giant Monzaemon statue in the middle supporting Toy Town (“Toy’s Town” is written in English on the side of its foundation). Mimi sees a mirage of her parents, like Takeru did, and runs off after it. The other Chosen Children are attacked by Monzaemon.

Mimi’s parents disappear, but she finds an old teddy bear of hers (with her name on it) at the spot. She and Palmon enter Toy Town and find the others brainwashed and included in a toy parade. Monzaemon appears and lectures Mimi about the way she threw her teddy bear away when she got a new toy. He offers to free her friends if she can out-roll him with a giant die. He rolls a five, so she has to get a six. She tosses the die into the air.

    Stage 8: Anger Eruption! Togemon!!
Mimi manages to roll a six when the die lands on her teddy bear. This pisses Monzaemon off, and he attacks her, causing Palmon to evolve to Togemon and defeat him, destroying the Black Gear in him. Monzaemon shrinks to normal size and thanks them with his hearts.

We cut to Devimon’s castle atop a mountain (Infinity Mountain?) shaped like his head, where Ogremon asks to go take out the Chosen Children.

We return to find the Chosen Children away from Toy Town and playing soccer. Jou, being Jou, gets ticked off at them and hurts himself kicking the soccer ball into the distance (where, unbeknownst to them, it’s impaled on one of Ogremon’s horns). The kids next start playing baseball. lol.

Everyone gets tired out, but they find a spigot or drinking fountain to refresh themselves. Agumon uncovers a lake or spring beneath it with Baby Flame, but it destabilizes the ground and the area starts collapsing and flooding. To escape the water, Jou leads them to the top of a hill, where Ogremon attacks them. He beats up the Child-level Digimon. He goes to punch the kids, but Jou attacks him with the baseball bat. Jou gets knocked into the water. Gomamon goes to rescue him, but is hit by a Gesomon who’s also working for Devimon. Jou and Gomamon both begin sinking.

Stage 9: Frenzied Waves – Ikkakumon!!
Jou is drowning, so Gomamon evolves to Ikkakumon. Gesomon grabs Taichi and Sora. Their Digimon evolve, but are out of energy, and Gesomon defeats them with Deadly Shade. Ogremon beats up the other partners. Then Ikkakumon rises and rams Gesomon. Palmon rescues Taichi and Sora with Poison Ivy. Ikkakumon tosses Gesomon and kills it with Harpoon Vulcan. The other partner Digimon fill up on food in the meantime, then evolve to face Ogremon. A Parrotmon appears and Ogremon uses it to make a getaway. Afterwards, everyone is impressed with Jou. Taichi gets another call from Gennai, apparently telling them they need to defeat Devimon. So they use their Adult-level partners to cross the water to Devimon’s island.

In the meantime, Ogremon reports back to Devimon. Devimon tells Leomon to take care of the Chosen Children, and grabs Ogremon with his claws.

The Chosen Children arrive at the island and are attacked by Leomon. Centaurmon interferes and fights Leomon, but he goes down after taking a Beast King Fist to protect the kids. Leomon beats up the partner Digimon that haven’t devolved. Then he goes to stab Mimi.

Stage 10: Death’s Door! Angel vs. Fallen Angel!!
Mimi lifts her bag to shield herself, exposing Leomon to her Digivice. Centaurmon gives the kids the gist of what it means, and they use their Digivices to drive the Black Gears out of Leomon. After he’s recovered, Centaurmon tells them all about the Digivices. Most of them are ready to go fight Devimon, but Taichi and Yamato get into another of their many fights. This time Yamato’s worried about Takeru’s safety, it seems. Taichi thinks about Hikari. But Takeru insists he’s ready to fight too. Leomon and Centaurmon introduce the Chosen Children to some other allies (Yukidarumon, Mojyamon, and Unimon). Together they advance on Devimon’s castle. Devimon sends his army out to meet them (a bunch of Bakemon, a bunch of Gizamon, the Parrotmon, a Kuwagamon, and a Shellmon). Centaurmon and his buddies hold them off – Yukidarumon fights Shellmon, Unimon fights Parrotmon and the Bakemon, Mojyamon fights with the Gizamon after they try to attack Mimi, and Centaurmon fights Kuwagamon – while the Chosen Children and Leomon continue towards the castle. Devimon gathers the Black Gears to him and explodes out of the castle in giant form. He’s too strong for the Adult-level partners, and Leomon gets hurt by Ogremon, who has become part of Devimon. Devimon targets Takeru, causing Patamon to evolve to Angemon.

Stage 11: Shock! Another Demonic Hand!!
Devimon’s minions have the upper hand against the Chosen Children’s allies. Angemon battles Devimon, but isn’t strong enough, so he gathers up the holy powers from the other partners and destroys Devimon with Heaven’s Knuckle. The Black Gears in Devimon’s minions explode, and they run off. Devimon and Angemon start to disappear, and give their final speeches. Angemon reverts to an egg. Taichi’s cell phone rings, followed by the appearance of Gennai as a hologram. He tells them about the Digital World and how it works, about the further threat posed by Vamdemon, and about the Tags and Crests. The hologram vanishes. Afterwards the Chosen say goodbye to Leomon and company, then head for Devimon’s castle to get the Tags and Crests.

PicoDevimon watches all this and flies through a portal to Vamdemon’s castle. Tailmon attacks him, and they have a brief argument, and then they report to Vamdemon within his upright coffin.

Back at Devimon’s castle, the Chosen Children enter a tower to find Pumpmon and Gotsumon with the tags laid out on a table. But before the kids get their hands on the Tags, Etemon runs up with a whistle and nightstick. He chases Pumpmon and Gotsumon off, Pumpmon taking the Tags with him in a bag. The Chosen Children also give chase. Etemon corners Pumpmon and Gotsumon, but Pumpmon opens a portal and the three of them all jump through it. The kids hesitate, but Taichi jumps through after them.

Stage 12: Courage Super Evolution – MetalGreymon!!
Agumon jumps into the portal after Taichi, who’s glad to see him. They fall out of it into a forest full of giant mushrooms, with Vamdemon’s castle visible in the distance. There they meet Scumon and Tyumon, who ask them for something in exchange for telling where Pumpmon and Gotsumon went. Taichi reluctantly starts to hand Tyumon his telescope, when Scumon reaches for his Digivice. It activates, leaving Scumon and Tyumon feeling nicer. Tyumon returns the telescope and sets Taichi on the track.

Meanwhile, an exhausted Pumpmon and Gotsumon have gotten away from Etemon, but they’re attacked by a group of Gazimon. They beat the Gazimon, but then Etemon arrives with more of them. He attacks Pumpmon and Gotsumon, but is interrupted by Greymon. Taichi gets the fugitives out of the way, while Etemon starts beating up Greymon. Pumpmon gives Taichi the Tags and then rushes in to help Greymon. Etemon kills him. Taichi gets pissed, and the Crest of Courage appears. Greymon Super Evolves, and MetalGreymon kills Etemon, after which Taichi comforts the grieving Gotsumon.

At Vamdemon’s castle, we meet Wizarmon, who wants to show Tailmon something. It turns out to be Hikari, holding her Digivice and encased in crystal.

Stage 13: Friendship Super Evolution – WereGarurumon!!
Poyomon hatches. The rest of the Chosen Children and their partners have finally followed Taichi through the portal, where they meet Scumon and Tyumon, who hit on Mimi. Gotsumon also meets them and hands out their Tags, telling them that Taichi has gone on ahead. They follow, accompanied by their three new Digimon friends. They sleep near a waterfall, and Yamato and Gabumon have a late night talk with each other.

Tailmon and PicoDevimon report to Vamdemon again.

The next day the Chosen Children come to a fork in the road. Yamato, Takeru, and Jou go one way, while the rest of the group goes the other.

Yamato and company get hungry, but smell some delicious food conveniently sitting on a table in the middle of nowhere. While the others eat, Yamato finds his Crest. Suddenly the ground collapses, and Jou, Takeru, and their partners land in a giant spider-web. Yamato descends on Garurumon. It looks like the table was a trap set by Digitamamon, who has a Dokugumon with him. They double-team Garurumon and defeat him. Before Dokugumon can eat everyone in the web, however, Yamato gives an impassioned speech, and Garurumon Super Evolves to WereGarurumon, who defeats both enemies.

Stage 14: Knowledge Super Evolution – AtlurKabuterimon!!
Koshiro’s Tag reacts near a well, so he and Tentomon climb down into it while Sora and company wait above.

Meanwhile, Yamato and company are caught in a rock fall. They seek shelter in a cave, but a cave-in separates Yamato and Tsunomon from the others.

In the well, Koshiro finds his Crest, and at the bottom of the well finds another circular room full of Digi-Letters. He starts studying them, but shadow versions of Tentomon and himself appear. Shadow-Koshiro attacks Koshiro with a knife while the two Kabuterimons battle. Vademon appears, because he’s behind it, and the room becomes his pocket universe. Shadow-Kabuterimon defeats Kabuterimon, and Vademon extorts Koshiro’s heart from him. Vademon offers him a rather sinister-looking heart instead while Tentomon reverts to Bubbmon.

Back on the surface, Sora and company meet PicoDevimon emerging from the well, who has a conversation with them (possibly lying about Koshiro) and then flies away looking pleased with himself.

Back at the bottom of the well, Bubbmon uses his bubbles to show Koshiro memories (which include memories of his parents). Koshiro crushes the false heart and takes back his own, after which Bubbmon evolves back up to Kabuterimon and fights Vademon. Vademon starts winning, but Kabuterimon Super Evolves into AtlurKabuterimon, who kills Vademon and blasts up to the surface some distance from the well with Koshiro in his mouth.

We cut to Vamdemon’s castle, where a frightened-looking Hikari has been unfrozen and is being led by Tailmon, Wizarmon, and PicoDevimon to Vamdemon, who emerges from his coffin to talk to her.

Stage 15: Love Super Evolution – Garudamon!!
Sora, Mimi, and company (who for some reason haven’t yet reunited with Koshiro) arrive at the Village of Beginnings. Scumon scares one of the babies, leading Elecmon to jump out and attack them. While he’s fighting Piyomon, the Crest of Love is revealed inside one of the big pillow blocks, and after Sora gets it Elecmon realizes that they’re good guys. He explains that the Village was recently attacked by Phantomon, DarkTyrannomon, and a group of Bakemon. Speak of the devil, Phantomon and his underlings soon reappear. A fight breaks out, but Phantomon and DarkTyrannomon get the upper hand. Phantomon starts strangling Elecmon with his chain, leading Sora’s Crest to activate. Garudamon destroys Phantomon and DarkTyrannomon. Afterwards two of the Baby Digimon evolve to a Koromon and Tsunomon, leading Sora to wonder where Taichi and Yamato are.

We see that Yamato is still wandering through that cave. Drimogemon, who’s still got a Black Gear in him, appears and chases Yamato and Tsunomon, but they’re saved by Taichi and Greymon, who destroy the Black Gear.

At Vamdemon’s castle, Hikari’s Digivice has activated, and she’s blasting Vamdemon with its light.

Stage 16: Sincerity Super Evolution – Zudomon!!
Jou and Takeru emerge from the cave to find themselves on a tiny island surrounded by water. A waterspout appears, and they get the Crest of Sincerity from it. Gomamon evolves to Ikkakumon and they set out. Takeru’s worried about Yamato, but feels better after Poyomon evolves to Tokomon. They’re pursued and attacked by MegaSeadramon, who defeats Ikkakumon, causing Jou and company to fall into the water.

At Vamdemon’s castle, Hikari’s Digivice stops shining for some reason (she looks like she’s still rather sick). Vamdemon detaches himself from the cables that had connected him to his coffin and goes to bite her, but Tailmon intervenes. Wizarmon blasts PicoDevimon and then flees with Hikari and Tailmon.

Back out on the water, Jou saves Takeru from drowning, but then starts to drown himself (again). Ikkakumon evolves to Zudomon and defeats MegaSeadramon, after which the group makes landfall near Vamdemon’s castle.

We switch to Hikari and her new friends, who have gotten out of the castle. Wizarmon and Tailmon tell Hikari their histories, and Tailmon gives Hikari her Tag and Crest.

Next we switch to Sora and company, who are in the forest near Vamdemon’s castle. Sora and Pyocomon wander off by themselves (toilet break, I think), and Scumon hits on Mimi some more. When Sora doesn’t come back, everyone goes looking for her and finds her and Pyocomon turned to stone.

Stage 17: Purity Super Evolution – Lilimon!!
A pair of Vegiemon show up and pick up Sora and Pyocomon. Palmon attacks them, but their boss, Cockatrimon, appears and hits her with Petra Fire, turning her to stone. Cockatrimon and the Vegiemon mention something about a king of theirs. Mimi, Scumon, and Tyumon yell at them, but Cockatrimon threatens Scumon and he and Tyumon run off, much to Mimi’s chagrin. The next we see of Mimi, she’s at a building that’s clearly based on Vamdemon’s castle from the anime (Vamdemon’s castle in the manhua looks considerably different). She’s dressed as a bride and due to be married to the “king” before an audience of Vegiemon. Cockatrimon shows her his collection of petrified Digimon (which now includes Sora and company), and then the king arrives…

Jou and Takeru are still on the shoreline with their Baby-level partners when they’re attacked by a Raremon. Before it can kill them, Koshiro and Kabuterimon show up, and Kabuterimon carries everyone away to safety.

We return to Mimi and the king, who turns out to be Nanimon. Nanimon talks about their wedded life and future children, leading Mimi to stomp on him. Cockatrimon shoots Petra Fire at her in retaliation, but Scumon unexpectedly returns and takes the attack himself. He’s petrified, and Nanimon shatters him with a punch. Tyumon’s devastated, of course. Mimi starts to cry, and a tear falls into one of the flowers in the bouquet she’s holding, which releases the Crest of Purity. It activates, Palmon’s restored, and she evolves to Lilimon, who defeats Nanimon and Cockatrimon. After that all of Cockatrimon’s victims are restored, and Mimi comforts Tyumon.

We return to Vamdemon’s castle, where Vamdemon opens a portal that lets him and PicoDevimon go to the human world. A girl is being chased by a Betamon there, but Vamdemon arrives to “save” her from it. She’s charmed by him, and he starts feeding on her.

    Stage 18: Reunion
There’s a brief scene with Hikari, Tailmon, and Wizarmon. Hikari’s thinking about Taichi.

Then we switch to Koshiro and company, who are still riding Kabuterimon. Koshiro gets an email from Gennai about the prophecy concerning VenomVamdemon. Tokomon evolves to Patamon.

We go back to Wizarmon and the others, who have decided to go looking for Taichi. A Devidramon perched atop a tall pedestal spots them and attacks. Wizarmon says he’ll fight it and tells Hikari and Tailmon to run and find Taichi.

By this time, Taichi and Yamato have gotten close to Vamdemon’s castle, but they find the way guarded by a SkullGreymon and a DeathMeramon. MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon fight them, but don’t seem to be doing too well.

The Devidramon, having killed Wizarmon, catches up with Hikari and Tailmon. Tailmon mourns Wizarmon, but they keep running. They stumble upon Taichi just as SkullGreymon’s about to hit him with Ground Zero. Hikari’s love for Taichi causes Tailmon to Super Evolve to Angewomon, who kills Devidramon and stops SkullGreymon’s attack, after which MetalGreymon destroys it. Angemon and Kabuterimon appear on the scene and distract DeathMeramon, allowing WereGarurumon to destroy him. There are happy reunions between the two pairs of siblings, and Tailmon’s introduced to everyone.

We switch to Sora and Mimi, who have left Nanimon’s castle. A portal opens before them, and Vamdemon and PicoDevimon return from the human world, since Vamdemon’s done feeding. Sora and company, together with the Digimon they de-petrified, prepare to fight him.

Stage 19: Death’s Door! Ultimate Demon King’s Advent
The Digimon from Nanimon’s castle attack Vamdemon, but he stops their attacks and kills them all. Koshiro and everyone with him are looking at something on his computer when they see Garudamon appear a ways off. Garudamon and Lilimon fight Vamdemon (PicoDevimon is killed by Garudamon as collateral damage), but he’s too strong for them. Everyone else arrives and joins in the battle, but Vamdemon’s too strong for them, too. So Angewomon uses Saint Air to restore their energy, and with the power of their attacks she kills Vamdemon with a Holy Arrow. Everyone celebrates, but Koshiro is worried about the prophecy. An earthquake happens and Vamdemon’s castle explodes, after which his mask begins absorbing a bunch of Digimon. The Chosen Children figure out that he needs to absorb 666 Digimon to be resurrected. They try to stop the process but are prevented by a pair of Snimon. Vamdemon’s shadow grabs the Snimon as the last two Digimon it needs, and VenomVamdemon appears.

    Stage 20: Goodbye! Our Partners!!
Everyone attacks VenomVamdemon, but it’s a losing battle. While talking with Patamon, Takeru finds the Crest of Hope. The Chosen Children figure out the last part of the prophecy, and use holy arrows on Taichi and Yamato, causing Agumon and Gabumon to evolve to Ultimate. WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon attack VenomVamdemon together. He starts to fade away, but as he does his abdomen opens and his true form emerges, escaping deletion. However, Angemon evolves to HolyAngemon and uses Heaven’s Gate to seal Vamdemon’s true form away. The world is saved.

The Digital World starts to shake, and Gennai appears to the Chosen Children, telling them to return to the altered D-1 building. Taichi’s Digivice starts counting down. The Digital World is about to reset itself and the humans need to get out. The Chosen Children say tearful goodbyes to their partners, and Taichi replaces the Digivice where he found it. He returns to the Real World to find that no one has noticed anything, and that Miyoko’s Piccolomon has beaten his v-pet Greymon. Instead of being disappointed, he dances off the stage and rejoins the other Chosen Children outside. We get a last view of the partner Digimon hanging out together in the Digital World, and then a panel of the Chosen Children with their fully evolved partners in the background. The very last panel is a shadowy shot of the Digital Gate from Digimon Adventure 02.

Wow, thanks for doing this!! I really enjoyed reading it. I liked the many differences from the anime, although there are no Dark Masters except MetalSeadramon :P

I suppose I could, though the manhua localized by TokyoPop aren't nearly as interesting, I'm afraid. For the most part they're just the anime plots on fast-forward (I can't read them, but just looking through them there's almost a whiplash effect), but there are a few little interesting changes.

They're interesting in their way. It's just that after looking through this manhua first it was a distinct letdown. But since people seem interested, I could do a topic for it.

So has anyone looked through the photos yet? Any thoughts on the art style or specific scenes? Anything else you'd like to see?

Sorry but I'm kinda confused right now, the manhuas from Tokyopop aren't just the adaptation of this Chinese manhuas for English-speakers? Or which one is this manhua of Lui Shin Shu then, a different one? When I asked if you could do a breakdown of the rest, I'm referring to the original manhuas of Yuen Wong Yu in Chinese, are they the same, or I got really wrong here? Sorry for the confusion :/

Yeah, I got the impression what's being archived was not the ever-present Tokyopop manhua, but something different altogether(implying that there is an alternate Zero Two adaptation) but now I'm confused.

Sorry for the confusion. There were two manhua adaptations of Digimon Adventure. This one is by Lu Shui Shi, and as far as I know it was never released outside of Taiwan. The other Adventure adaptation, and the adaptations for 02, Tamers, and Frontier, were written by Yu Yuen Wong, and they were localized into English by TokyoPop. So yeah, the manhua summarized here is not the TokyoPop manhua.

In my opinion, it's really too bad that Yu Yuen Wong got to go beyond Adventure and Lu Shui Shi didn't. Besides Lu Shui Shi's being the more interesting adaptation, I like his style better than Wong's. Wong's is a little too cartoony for my taste. But unfortunately this is the only Digimon manhua Lu Shui Shi did, while Wong not only wrote the TokyoPop manhua but also Fight! Digimon and D-Cyber.
