tri. Stage Play Update- Female Cast, Ensemble, and Director

    Another stage play update!

    Image Thumbnail (custom)

After getting the male cast, and then the Digimon partners in the last few weeks, we have a handful of cast and crew updates today.

First up is the female cast for Super Evolution Stage Digimon Adventure tri. Stage Play -The August 1st Adventure-!

    Image Thumbnail (custom)

Sora will be played by Suzuka Morita, who will be most recognizable to fans as ShinkenYellow in Shinkenger.

Mimi will be played by Marina Tanoue, who was recently in Popin Q, the Toei Anniversary Film. She's also appeared in many stage plays, including The Lion King and Persona 3.

    Image Thumbnail (custom)

Hikari will be played by Yuna Shigeishi. She appears to be an up and comer who has appeared in various media productions, but generally things most of us wouldn't be familiar with.

In addition we have the ensemble cast.

The ensemble cast is made up of Hideyuki Yoshihara, Makoto Otani, Rina Minami, Takuya Matsuoka, Michiko Washiya, Ryo Miyake, Kenshin Ikeda, and Sakiko Shouno.

We will update with further information on the ensemble later if appropriate.

    Last but certainly not least...

The director and screenplay writer of the stage play is Kenichi Tani. Tani studied theater at both Meiji and Canterbury before later starting his own theater company. He's become known for a modern innovative style, while being knowledgeable about the classics (with what appears to be a talent at translating and adapting non-Japanese works.) An interview with him from the Performing Arts Network Japan from a little over a year ago is worth a read (and they have it in English.)

The profile of Tani from the stage play site translated thanks to garm:
Wrote the script for 'Pluto' (a play based on the Pluto manga), directed the play Shiroari no Su (Termites' Nest), wrote the screenplay for Watashi wa Shingo (I am Shingo), and worked on other widely-discussed works. He is skilled at working with all sorts of pieces, from serious stories to comedies, and is praised for his skill at writing characters and the overflowing of originality from the plays he directs.

The information for the stage play is lining up for what looks like a top notch production. Hopefully we get more photos of the cast in costume along with additional details soon.

I'm thinking about seeing this but I'm not sure if I want to spend the money -- I've never been too into anime/game stage play adaptations. Still, it looks like it'll be a pretty cool performance.

The casting for all the females is spot on, but Hikari looks kinda idk...wack? Still hoping they release this on home video or give us a Riverdale-style live-action Digimon series. A boy can hope, right?

    *Googles Mao Ichimichi*
Nope, she's not the right kind of cute to play Hikari. I don't know who else auditioned for the role, but this new and upcoming actress would suit the role for Hikari way better than M.A.O, just because she looks more middle school-y, and M.A.O doesn't.

Well, it all depends on the result after applying makeup and wigs.

I mean my first impression wouldn't be that Gaku Matsumoto and Shohei Hashimoto look like Taichi and Yamato:

However, they look pretty similar at the end:
