Branched out with 3, maybe 4 choices is good, so you can have DNA digivolutions and such. And digivolving and dedigivolving for stats is fine, but I'd still like to be able to digivolve in battle if necessary, like in World 3. I hate going into a battle unprepared after having just dedigivolved, and my digimon is up against a higher level, right after having just beaten up a bunch of other digimon that were lower level. Even if it's just an extra feature, like filling up a gauge for digivolution, also like in World 3 (forgot about it til now), it's better than having to backtrack and go to a secret room every time. Maybe only go to the room if you want to change your digivolutions.

What type of game did you say this was? Is it more like Story or World?

In terms of gameplay and style Digimon World 3 could be said to be the predecessor of Digimon Story. It had the same thing going on with you having 3 active partners at any given time that would evolve based on elemental factors. Not identical of course, for example fights were 1-on-1 with Digimon being able to be switched out during the battle.

Digimon World 2 was pretty damn close to the Digimon Story games. Dungeon-crawling, teams of Digimon fighting, and you even had to devolve Digimon through Jogress to access better evolutions.

Shame they decided to skip Europe for 2. Still not played it. At least DS wasn't region locked, so I still had access to those.

Using a bug thing in a maze seems weird to me. As is DNA digivolving... backwards.

The 3v3 there is probably the true basis for Story ,though

Digimon World 2 was pretty decent for a Digimon game. However, all of the (many) dungeons in the game looked identical, and it got really old really fast. The variety of Cyber Sleuth's settings is phenomenal by comparison. I think, too, if I had gotten farther into it, that the Jogress evolution thing would have gotten on my nerves. Not only do you go down a level, you lose two Digimon in the process, making it considerably more costly than how evolution works in the Story games.

Non-linear as heck. Evolutions based on stats and DNA (with Plant and Mutant being separate from Insect and Machine, along with maybe an “Abomination” category for Dark Area Digimon). Much like Next, use the Families as a plot point. To address the Perfect bottleneck, use Beast Hybrid, Golden Armor, certain XW Digimon, And Ultimate-grade AppMon as Perfects.

Yeah! I'm disappointed the Digimon Story series abandoned the Species mechanic in Cyber Sleuth and just went with a bog-standard element system for both techniques and Digimon.

It was REALLY annoying more than anything. I prefer how it currently is.
