Although, really, it's hard to imagine Megidramon "guarding" anything.
As I said, they're more or less based on Chinese mythology. The Guardian Spirits as well as the Dragon Kings of the Four Seas. North, south, east and west.

Well, I'm not sure were Wikimon got their info, but the have the listing for each Dragon's "Sea", https://wikimon.net/Four_Great_Dragons

According to the discussion page, Kryten (Inpu here on the forum) seems to have come up with those, but the sources he cites are no longer available. The colors he lists don't match up with the ones given on Wikimon. I'm certain that Megidramon is the red, southern dragon associated with summer, while Holydramon is probably the northern one, given the connection to winter (Hermit Fog, etc.). But I'll contact Inpu and discuss it with him.

Digimon doesn't bother giving themselves because of their ever changing nature, they only decide their name once they're at the end of their evolution branch and even then, they rarely doing so because digimon can differentiate each other with no problem.
In a world where Tamers was common place like in Dawn and Dusk, disregarding the partner digimon attacking the Tamers directly was considered Taboo, not because it was a dirty trick but because killing the Tamer first may trigger dark digivolution, giving them far stronger opponent.

I like that headcanon about not attacking Tamers because it can trigger a more dangerous Dark Evolution. That's a pretty decent explanation for a lot of times when it seems like it would be smarter to just attack the kids directly.
Bat-Guilmon's utility belt is mostly full of bread.

My headcanon is mostly tamer vs tamer buut We do have canon reasoning in V-Tamers with Digimon looking down on human.
Funnily any serious antagonist in Appmon attack the driver all the time.
There also a few more plausible reason for headcanon:
The Tamers is treated as Medic and killing them is considered war crime and mostly taken prisoner for ransom, unless the tamer fight back which become fair play.
Or if you kill the tamer it's basically declaring that you will take no prisoner and the enemy won't take you as prisoner, making the opposition escalate enough that it isn't worth it.

Something I was thinking about recently (assuming no one else has thought of this before):

Hackers, with their ability to control and modify Digimon at will, are basically the Digiworld equivalent of the Great Old Ones.

Chosen Children/Tamer appointees are basically juvenile Hackers recruited to put some of that reality-altering mojo to use in defense of Digiworld.
It's all part of the mystery.

Well, there are some Digimon equivalents of the Great Old Ones, lol. But I see what you mean. The potentially human "God of the Digital World" mentioned in V-Tamer and elsewhere is a canon reference to the concept.
