Oh hey. 10 years since the new version. That sure is something. Can believe it's been that long. Though it's been about 10 years since I was on Youtube, meanign 11 years since that started. I remember all the problems before this new version. ...That was quite the issue. Hope this is here for as long as Digimon exists.

I remember joining when Savers first came out and how obsessed I was with Masaru (so much so i think i might have gotten on some people's nerves XD). I also remember making avatars and sigs for people, god were those horrible lol. As for back ups of the old WtW, wouldn't some be on the way back machine?

We mean in the sense of a full backup that could be placed online.

I believe Vande is correct and that at some point there was one, but even then, that would only be for the prior version (when Jita and Koroku ran it) and none of the prior versions with Jita and other people.

And especially towards the end, the prior version was kind of a trash heap.

Earlier in the sites history I did hang out a bit, but by that version of the site I wasn't around at all because it just wasn't a pleasant place to be. While I admit my memory could be wrong, I just remember it being a trash bin of nonstop yelling, nonsense, and people demanding downloads.

When I popped up to help Jita rebuild part of the goal was to get back to it being a discussion and information forum.

I vaguely recall not being very popular with large swaths of people who either didn't register on the new (at the time) forum, or registered and promptly left under protest that there would not be full download sections (while at the beginning of the rebuild site I wasn't running it, I WAS hosting it, and if I was going to host it, I wanted it to be run as a respectable place.

Of course, all of that is likely colored by my perceptions of what I remember, and that I literally was helping put the place back together after Jita and Koroku had an insane falling out for various reasons that are old, and frankly, not worth getting into.

You also have to remember that while quite a few people are still around from back then, anyone who is is significantly older now.
I mean, at the time I was 22. While I was still clever, I was nowhere near as calm as I am now (one of the things you lean as you get older... learn to be calmer.)

I'd like to believe that even if someone wouldn't agree the forum is at it's 'best' now, that it's at least at it's most stable for someone who wants to come and talk about Digimon, or to get information or help.

I can't believe it's been 10 years... I'm pretty sure I found this site through The DigiPort back in its glory days (not to bash the Digital Dive). Probably for about a year or so I was one of the classic thread-lurkers, then decided to join in on the conversation in 2007 and haven't quit since. I definitely remember some harsher, more critical times but for years now the site has been a great place for speculation, sharing information, and discussing that show that has meant so much to each and every one of us. Congrats on 10 years, so glad to be a part of it. And from now, once again, the Adventure evolves...

I'd like to believe that even if someone wouldn't agree the forum is at it's 'best' now, that it's at least at it's most stable for someone who wants to come and talk about Digimon, or to get information or help.
I definitely agree that the site is at its best. I have always considered it (and still consider it) THE place for Digimon information and reliable news and updates. At the smaller Digimon Celebration 02 a few weeks ago in Pittsburgh, I was gushing about the site and was SHOCKED that a few people I talked to had never heard of it! To me, if you're a true Digimon fan, you're on With the Will (or at least lurk the threads lol).

:p It better be, WtW is basically the successor forum to Megchan's EzBoard forum since most of the old core group is from there. There were only a couple of other large forums for digimon out there, and most of the people from old WtW either stayed here or went to DATS which looks like it died at some point since their URLs don't work anymore.

There is nothing from the prior versions of With the Will here.

There were no backups for us to use as I recall.

The prior version just before this one was taken down when the admins at the time had a 'falling out' let's say.
It's sort of too bad I didn't keep it (or else I can't figure out where I put it), but I had an entire html copy of all the threads in the forum at one point since I think some upgrade went and wiped out all the threads (I think it was the 3rd time in the forum's history that had happened at that point) and we were trying to salvage all the information threads by loading a backup to a different URL.

I am going to say the forums and website started around 2001. Because I remember clips of later Tamers episodes from the site. It may have however been 10 years since you took over. Which is still crazy to think
2001 is a touch early, because I don't believe we would have known the song yet (and Jita named it after the song of course), because the anime didn't start until April 2002.

I haven't run it for 'quite' 10 years, as when the modern version started Jita was still officially running it, even if to a degree that was in name only.
Neko is probably thinking of FET's site since that's where all the episode hosting happened back then and it was running before WtW established itself (since JoeyTeel was still running Megchan's forums).
I went back through my chat history files and found the original link to Jita's WtW site. Although the web site itself launched at some point earlier than May 16, 2002 (news post saying the site was moving off the "Digimon Realm" with that date), the forums as we know them launched August 1, 2002 (Megchan's EzBoards closed out completely sometime between the start of September and the end of October 2002) and was powered by Ikonboard 3.1.1 although within 2 months that was changed to phpBB software. At some point in 2005 or the start of 2016 the forum software again changed to MyBB bringing with it the dark theme that most of us probably remember when the big ass fight over admins, hosting and other things saw the forums have to temporarily move to the wtw-x url while the two sides had their somewhat semi-veiled fight (I assume it was somewhat veiled since a lot of it was happening on non-standard channels like the staff sub-forum and the IRC channel) which eventually saw the user base split into the current iteration of With The Will run by GoC (backed by Jita's consent) and the newly minted DATS forums run by JKaiser

Oh yeah... EZBoard. I remember that. Does that still exist? But that's why I have this name. Because I lost the old one when that board went down.

EzBoard changed names and is now called Yuku, but I believe all the login names were migrated since I logged in once a couple of years ago to use someone's forums.

Glad to say, I'm a part of this group. I don't recall posting much in the early days, but I did stumble onto the original WtW on its first year online. I would have been at a ripe age of 11 at the time, but I still recall Jita. I may have posted in the original forum later that year as I do recall perusing the thread during a break in a broadcast of Space Jam before Frontier ended.

Also glad to say, I rediscovered the forum under the WtW-x domain not too long after the re-launch thanks to the return of the DMA. Man, if I could tell myself at that point that I'd be going into the biological differences between species and subspecies while hunting for recolored and miscellaneous Digimon subspecies, I'm not sure I'd believe it. I probably also would have suggested a term other than subspecies for single-trait changes as well, such as eye color in that one Armadillomon…

Luckily, since the early days, we've gotten away from the panda clones who were taking over… haha.

Neko is probably thinking of FET's site since that's where all the episode hosting happened back then and it was running before WtW established itself (since JoeyTeel was still running Megchan's forums).
Dang, I also remember FET and JoeyTeel… though I don't recall the episode hosting. All I remember from the site was fan evos, mostly of atrocious quality. I think one of the better ones involved MetalTyrannomon from… Raidramon, maybe?

I'm in that screen shot. Been here over ten years and still only have 136 posts.
Speak of the early days! I see you've kept the same mug after over a decade.

The hosting for the videos was on digidub, the actual links to the episodes were distributed through other locations which is probably why you don't remember it. This was back in a time when bittorent was still a new technology and only had one client out, and loads of people were still using dialup modems.
Actually getting anime from Japan online (as opposed to on VHS tapes shipped across the pacific several weeks after the fact) required you to use a program called WinMX to try and hunt things down and then because of site bandwith, upload times, download times and prevailing technologies of the times, we took an episode that was encoded in DivX and was about 150-200MB in size at 640x480 resolution and crammed it into a 37MB realmedia encode at 320x240.
This is a time when quite literally, digital fansubs didn't exist (you had to get tapesubs and hope the copy was from a master or 1st gen copy) and people were sending Megchan money via Post Office Money Order to make VHS copies of digimon and other anime that she had available through her Digimon Sekai site. It was considered incredibly fast to have the episode within 24 hours of broadcast on FujiTV.
When you look at the modern scene just a mere 15 years later (the very first Japanese clips we have of digimon were the bits and pieces of the last couple of 02 episodes Megchan released herself), anime has gone from nearly unknown, to mainstream with a ton of licensing companies (overlicensing and flooding the market with a lot of crap), down to a smaller number of major licensors. We've got simulcasts, instant downloads, anime in theatres with follow on physical releases of the more popular shows. No longer do we have to wait over a year to see what fansubbers are putting out a week after broadcast. Heck, Crunchyroll and Funimation have essentially caused most of the old school subbing groups to shut down simply by providing fast affordable access to almost every show that's coming out in Japan with no meaningful delay. I don't know of any of the "old guard" fansub groups that are still active, most of the handful that still operate are doing niche shows, OVA/Movies that normally don't see immediate licences and are part of the third generation of digisub groups that poped up around the time speedsubbing became popular, most groups started to lose the adobe aftereffects rendered OP animations.

Wow. That's sure something. I stopped going there once the Megchan boards were stopped and everything came here.

How times have changed.

A small blast from the past that newer members won't recall, but might enjoy seeing...

I remember that banner.

Holy crap. I forgot about EzBoard. I feel so old now.

I'm in that screen shot. Been here over ten years and still only have 136 posts.
I've been a registered member since December of '06 and yet this is like my 114th post. I guess I only comment when I feel it's necessary.

.......

I might as well share how I got to this board. This was a time when things at the official DigimonCCG.com forums were going downhill and that forum was in the last months of it's life.

Back at the DigimonCCG community, I was known as Koushiro "IZZY" Izumi and I always typed in this bold, orange, and annoying (to some people) font in my posts.

At one point, that board became more than a board for just discussing the short lived card game. For me it was the board where a Digimon fan could talk anything about the franchise. It was the board to reinforce the Digi-fan in me.

That board was my home. That board was my life.*

Then things started going south, there were hardly any moderators around and some people posted whatever as they pleased.......or at least I think that's how it went.

Then word got out that the DigimonCCG Forums were coming to a close soon. I asked CyberDramon, who I believe was a mod there, about where to go after DigimonCCG goes away and he referred me to this site.

I joined WtW in December of 2006 during a time when there was talk about Digimon Savers. It was a rocky start. I think one of my first posts were completely in that orange text but Vande wanted nothing of it. Haha.

DigimonCCG forums closed on the February of the folowing year. This has been my go-to place for Digimon news and info ever since. Man, it's been quite a long time.

I'm surprised to see other members besides Vande from the DigimonCCG forum here, especially on this particular thread (I'm looking at you two, Parukeruru san and Unknown Neo)

My, my, how times have.......changed.

Here's to another ten years.

*Okay, it wasn't really my life. I thought it sounded good.

Apparently I forgot to drop in and say Happy Anniversary! :D

I originally joined With the Will after finding out that Net Ocean went offline. Don't think I posted much there, but I noticed a few familiar names when I came here.

You know Izzy, I do not remember being on the CCG forum. It must have been really, long ago. Good for you for remembering something I didn't.

The CCG forums were pretty much doomed from the start. They were very, very visible, being accessible from digimon.com. There were legions and legions and legions of 12 year old kids and really, for most of the time, me and CyberDramon were the only active moderators (we got two others later on) because the Bandai employees had actual, y'know, jobs. Even if the moderation team was 10x the size though, the audience was the audience and that wasn't going to change. We were never going to make it a forum for fancy intellectuals.

All in all I think it went alright, for what it was, and I occasionally had some amusement out of it. There was the time a couple kids decided to shitpost my personal information, except it was all wrong, for instance.

I'm surprised to see other members besides Vande from the DigimonCCG forum here, especially on this particular thread (I'm looking at you two, Parukeruru san and Unknown Neo)
I've always thought there were certain members of the Digimon CCG forums I should have banned forthright and maybe saved the rest of the fandom from them. Some of them are here! I guess it worked out alright.

The old, old With the Will was mostly terrible and full of terrible, abrasive people (I did my part!), and one of the main reasons for its original popularity was Omnitor posting his """spoilers""". So I think we can safely conclude that the modern With the Will is much better. Only some of us are terrible, abrasive people and the worst thing we have is people insisting on spelling Digimon names in accordance with the official Engrish, not rantings about the Puppet Master or Neo Digimon that are taken as gospel "because Omnitor." Man, I remember when 99% of my posts on other sites were "STOP LISTENING TO OMNITOR FFS". Of course the one time we all tried it on With the Will, he locked the thread and Suzaku had to save the day. Then he ragequit, never to be seen again. We'll never know who Omnitor really was. Where he came from. Where he went.

In the end we can only concede that goc won the game of thrones, defeating wild gregs, pandas, celebis, various other people and sites that died away, and annexing the majority of the remaining important sites. ¯\(°_o)/¯
